The information war continues on MN, with fabricated Hamas propaganda being presented left and right as though it is the unquestionable truth.

Frankly it would be better if MN banned posts relating to Israel, even the unprovoked attacks on 7/10, unless they are calling for the hostages to be released by the murderous rapists of Hamas, an organisation not long for this world anyway.

BelleHathor · 20/01/2024 14:13

Aren't the accusations of Hamas propaganda sooooo November 2023.

It's the Israeli Government who have purchased software in order to attempt to control the narrative.

Israel Has Bought a Mass Online Influence System to Counter Antisemitism, Hamas Atrocity Denial

Defense, intelligence and civilian bodies realized soon after October 7 they were losing the online battle to what sources call Hamas' 'well-oiled psychological and information warfare machine.' So they quietly purchased digital tools to fight disinformation, despite fears of future political misuse

"Israel has responded to its "clear loss" to Hamas on the digital battlefield by making its first-ever purchase of a technological system capable of conducting mass online influence campaigns, according to numerous sources with knowledge"

A summary of the article from Twitter:

Israel Buys Tech for Mass Influence Operations

Haaretz reports, “Israel has responded to its "clear loss" to Hamas on the digital battlefield by making its first-ever purchase of a technological system capable of conducting mass online influence campaigns, according to numerous sources with knowledge of the matter.

The system can, among other things, automatically create content tailored to specific audiences. The technology was purchased as part of a wider attempt by Israeli bodies, both civilian and military, to address what sources termed "Israel's public diplomacy failure" following the Hamas massacre on October 7 and subsequent war.”

“a few weeks into the war, Israel set up a "hasbara forum" comprising government agencies, offices and ministries, as well as military, defense and intelligence bodies – including the IDF, the Shin Bet security service and the National Security Council – alongside tech firms, civilians volunteer initiatives and even Jewish organizations, that meets weekly.

Officials from different bodies, including the Public Diplomacy Directorate and Diaspora Affairs Ministry, charged with countering antisemitism against world Jewry, held talks with different firms and tech providers active in various mass online campaigns. Assets are one thing, an intelligence source explains, but you also want a system for managing them.

“Mass influence systems can often get their operators in trouble, and their public exposure can severely damage their clients' credibility.”

“As a result, Israel decided to purchase an existing technology instead of risk developing one independently. A number of civilian tools and programs developed for business and political campaigns were procured: a system for mapping online audiences; a system capable of automatically creating websites, among other things, as well as content tailored to specific audiences; a system for monitoring social media and messaging platforms, and others. Thus, Israel hoped to launch campaigns that would advance Israel's core message and improve global perception.”

Many of idf members would be better if they spent their time doing videos following the latest stupid trend from SM than killing people as they currently are. I’ve never seen so many disrespectful and disgusting army members. I keep saying it’s a problem to bring anyone that doesn’t really want to be there just for the sake of being young. Going to war is nothing to laugh about. Your laughs are other people’s tears

Evidence from a British obgyn who returned recently from Gaza. There are no gory images but her report is - as can be expected - horrifying.

I used to work in maternal child health in a country where there's a lot of very poor women giving birth at home in less than sanitary conditions - partly for economic and partly traditional reasons. Part of my organisation's work was making sure these women and their "doulas" had access to sterile birthing kits. This type of kit is not getting through Israeli checks to Gaza. Obviously they shouldn't be needing them in the first place.

And Hi! I just found this thread. I've not been on Mumsnet much since October because I couldn't stomach the genocide, war crimes, human rights abuses apologists, the whataboutery and gaslighting that comes with all that. Spent my time trying to help influence meta algorithms instead 😃 Very happy to see these threads!

Re the ICJ, I want to know where the judges are. I think they should have been locked away like the cardinals are when voting for a new pope, with no contact with the outside world until they've reached a verdict that's given via anonymous voting until there's a majority. The longer they take, the more political meddling is involved.

gestroopd · 20/01/2024 14:37

Oh apologies!!! I misread the thread title. My video isn't about individual soldiers, more generalised. Apologies, I'll read better next time! 🙈

Parkingt111 · 20/01/2024 14:45

@gestroopd thank you for sharing that. It's a harrowing account which is difficult to hear but the sad reality for many women. I read a report that on average two mothers are dying every hour in Gaza since the war started.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/20/middleeast/israel-gaza-cemeteries-desecrated-investigation-intl-cmd/index.html

I'm not sure if this has been shared before (if so apols) but it is a CNN investigation into the desecration of 16 cemeteries by IDF.

CNN has reviewed satellite imagery and social media footage showing the destruction of cemeteries and witnessed it firsthand while traveling with the IDF in a convoy. Together the evidence reveals a systemic practice where Israeli ground forces have advanced across the Gaza Strip.

The intentional destruction of religious sites, such as cemeteries, violates international law, except under narrow circumstances relating to that site becoming a military objective, and legal experts told CNN that Israel’s acts could amount to war crimes.

A spokesman for the IDF could not account for the destruction of the 16 cemeteries CNN provided coordinates for, but said the military sometimes has “no other choice” but to target cemeteries it claimed Hamas uses for military purposes.

The IDF said rescuing the hostages and finding and returning their bodies is one of its key missions in Gaza, which is why bodies were removed from some gravesites.

At least 16 cemeteries in Gaza have been desecrated by Israeli forces, satellite imagery and videos reveal | CNN

The Israeli military has desecrated at least 16 cemeteries in its ground offensive in Gaza, a CNN investigation has found, leaving gravestones ruined, soil upturned, and, in some cases, bodies unearthed.

Reuters article about IDF use of "Skunk" a foul smelling liquid sprayed at Palestinians, some article quotes copied below.

NABI SALEH, West Bank (Reuters) - Imagine taking a chunk of rotting corpse from a stagnant sewer, placing it in a blender and spraying the filthy liquid in your face. Your gag reflex goes off the charts and you can't escape, because the nauseating stench persists for days.

This is "skunk", a fearsome but non-lethal tool in Israel's arsenal of weapons for crowd control. It comes in armored tanker trucks fitted with a cannon that can spray a jet of stinking fluid over crowds who know how to cope with plain old tear gas.

"We run away fast when it comes at us, but we don't quit," said a local boy clutching a rock, his dark eyes framed by the oval opening of a black t-shirt wrapped around his face.

"They think they're pretty smart for inventing it, but they still move on to the tear gas, bullets, and breaking into our homes, just the same as usual," he said.

The skunk truck makes its charge, scattering the youths up into the town, where the armed Israelis follow.

"SHIT"

Palestinians call it simply "shit."

"How can you describe this stuff?" said Muad Tamimi, whose gas station on the front line of Nabi Saleh's standoffs is often bathed in it. "It's beyond foul water, like a dead body and rotting food together, which no soap or perfume can take off - I'm hit with it and nobody goes near me for days."

Wouldn't it have been cheaper if members of the Israeli government and IDF had just stopped talking?

Hamas didn't win the digital war, Israel lost it.

Thank you for this thread @Desertrose2023 I am hardly able to contribute, because what we are watching is so relentlessly horrific. Completely agree we should continue supporting and engaging with the Palestinian journalists

Another young girl and hugely talented journalist I check on every morning is 9 year old Lama Jamous - incredible she can narrate such awful situations with such severity - https://www.instagram.com/lama_jamous9?igsh=MXRzaDZ5eDY3eGt3OQ==

Thank you @missydem I hadn’t heard of Lama before but I’ve followed her on Instagram now. What a brave young girl.

I can’t take Matthew Miller seriously. Does anyone remember the muppet vampire character? That’s who he reminds me of when he stands there on the podium.

here’s a link to him trying to respond to a question by an incredulous journalist around what possible logic there could be for the Israeli army to blow up an entire university in Gaza that has been under the army’s control for 70 days. More intentional destruction of civilian infrastructure.

Of course FOJN, vastly cheaper and simpler. But that would have required self reflection and self awareness.

It's easier just to paint opponents as misinformed radical anti semites. Look at the language used, far left, useful idiots, anti West, Anyone who disagrees is Hamas including, South Africa, the UN, Amnesty International etc.

Buying the tool makes sense to the Israeli Government as they assume that if the public were better informed they would support their actions.

Columbia students are reporting that Skunk was sprayed at them by former Israeli soldiers whilst the students were peacefully protesting for Palestine.

theres an ongoing investigation and they are asking all those who have information to come forward.

a couple more I would recommend following on instagram

@princekouta
He’s a Canadian Palestinian doctor named Ahmed and he’s in North Gaza. Previously working in Al Shifa hospital. One of the few who remained reporting in the North and he documents life there including the daily struggle to survive.

@aymanm
he’s an American Egyptian journalist for MSNBC. Excellent reporting and really does a lot to produce humanized stories.
