Conflict in the Middle East

To ask why the only countries that didn't vote for a ceasefire were USA and UK?

stillholly · 09/12/2023 23:12

All other countries in the UN voted for a ceasefire.

USA put their hand up and voted against a ceasefire.

UK abstained from voting.

Can anyone explain to me their reasoning for not voting for a ceasefire?

@Thereissomelight it's a shame you Don't actually know many Israelis then.

I do actually, a couple.
They went there for a year and left. Wouldn’t live there permanently.

WatTyler · 10/12/2023 11:03

What a foolish question.
Because both countries support Israel and do not want it to surrender to Hamas, which would be the outcome of a premature ceasefire, while the rest of the world is to a greater or lesser degree anti-Semitic and wants to see Hamas win, Israel destroyed and the genocide of the Jews Hamas has publicly announced is its intention be completed.
There will be no ceasefire until Hamas ceases to exist, and nor should there be.
More people will die, but so long as most of them are murdering, raping Hamas psychopaths, that's fine by me.

Most Palestinians are murdering, raping psychopaths?
Sounding a little genocidal to me right there.

Thereissomelight · 10/12/2023 11:16

40% of the thousands being murdered are children.

Parkingt111 · 10/12/2023 11:17

@WatTyler are you suggesting the 13 countries who voted for a ceasefire are 'to a greater or lesser degree anti-semitic'

Gummybear23 · 10/12/2023 10:50

I'm not keen on the current or future possibilities.

I hate war.

But humanity is not and will not be a priority for anyone. However what is likely is that different. Nations will hold the power.

That’s good re not being keen.

I’m concerned about increasing destabilisation and I don’t think pp are thinking it through for Europe when they hope the US scales back funding, or exits NATO even.

Any care some are showing will likely not be returned, getting rid of allies is foolish imo

OpenLanes · 10/12/2023 11:22

It would be interesting to see people's opinions if Ukraine was bombing areas of Russia to this extent.
I'm sure it would vary, but it would be interesting to see opinions.

stomachameleon · 10/12/2023 11:23

@electriclight I do think most people on here do not know the reality of 'stone throwing' and the deaths that have caused by slingshots being used.... not to mention damage to cars and accidents, fractures skulls etc.

stomachameleon · 10/12/2023 11:24

@WatTyler that's a awful thing to say....

@Parkingt111 you know that's not a reflection of general consensus.

Parkingt111 · 10/12/2023 11:26

@stomachameleon yes I know its not a view that is reflective of wider opinion, but I was interested to know why the poster thought that voting against a ceasefire is a form of anti-semitism from their point of view

Parkingt111 · 10/12/2023 11:28

I also don't think its a lone opinion as I have seen this mentioned several times on Social media by different people aswell
So just interested to know the thought process behind that thought on why voting against a ceasefire is anti-semitic according to some

Just think if Israel had given back the Palestine hostages prisoners (which included children) maybe none of this would have happened. Keeping children locked up for throwing stones is completely unacceptable and if a country like Russia did this to Ukraine children there'd be uproar.

Also just because I don't agree with the stance Israel are taking it doesn't mean I agree with anti semitism. Israel don't define the Jewish community, there are thousands across the world and I don't think of Israel when I think of anything Jewish.

Israel were also holding terrorists that tried to stab Israelis, car bomb them and throw grenades at them.

lets pretend they’re all just children throwing stones though eh

PeasfullPerson · 10/12/2023 11:45

Because for some reason unknown to us they need a relationship with Israel so badly that they are willing to sacrifice the integrity of international law and 17,000 Palestinian people. For anyone who supports this, please don’t be stupid enough to believe yourself so special that someday the same couldn’t happen to you. It could happen anywhere, to anyone, it could be you, it could be your sisters, brothers, your children, parents, friends or neighbours.

The reason is they have most likely stoped a shit loads of terrors acts against us. We need them and they know it and have basically said so.

We are at risk constantly, I don't think people get that.

covenoflittlewitches · 10/12/2023 12:08

You seriously have no idea why they would need a relationship with Isreal? Really?

banananas1978 · 10/12/2023 12:10

They want gaza and palestinians to be flattened to israel can take it over.

same why bojo ruined peace deal between ukraine and russia, arestovych said Z went after $$$ and now ukraine is 600 000men down and more land-when before russia even agreed to discuss crimea. All to do with our tax money laundering

Honeylemonandginger · 10/12/2023 12:13

Why is it so difficult for all of us to agree that killing of innocents is wrong on both sides.
How can anyone justify the killing of thousands of children ? Honestly, I despair for humanity.
We call ourselves civilised people!

The US has always voted in its own interest
War has always been in its own interest
Brown people are expendable and collateral damage, even when under 5
None of this is surprising after the war on Iraq. And the UK has always gone along with it,

Absolutely agree

money and the notion we still hold a lot of power we don’t

I am absolutely horrified and disgusted at the anti semitism that has reared its ugly head again. Hamas knew what they were starting and cheerfully went ahead knowingly sacrificing their people. Now Israel are the bad guys! It is such a shame that so many people are so ignorant of history. Nobody wants any civilian population to suffer but ignoring the Hamas atrocities to jump on the “Palestinians are the victims” bandwagon is shameful. Having heard a livestream of an Israeli family before Hamas broke into their safe room and massacred their family I will never ever be anything other than pro Israeli.

Oh do be quiet love. We're all bored of you now. This line is old and decrepit

Have you missed that Russia did took huge numbers of Ukrainian children - the children didn't even had to throw a stone for that. Many of them were placed in "re-education camps" and abused.

Numbers are unclear still - tens of thousands are named, overall numbers are expected to be in hundreds of thousands.

(I am not saying that because Russia did it, it is ok to do the same, it is just unbelievable how people downplay Russian invasion)

You don’t have a proper response so you say you are ‘bored’. Actually, we are bored by you.

I agree. That fact we do feel relatively safe gives rise to many of these posts. We do need allies, those living in the U.K. are no exception

Thereissomelight · 10/12/2023 12:31

The reason (we need them) is because they have most likely stopped a shit load of terror attacks against us.

Stopped some I’m sure but will trigger vastly more.

Who would you rely on to return the favour if needed?

Would you like to align more closely with the M.E
