Why Can't Gazans Leave?

miniaturepixieonacid · 04/12/2023 13:25

There is probably a very simple answer to this that I missed in early news reports.

It's so awful watching News Feeds that essentially seem to say that Gazans are having to move around in a cat and mouse game with the IDF to avoid bombs but have nowhere left to go.

I am very aware that war has casualties and other countries are at war. I am not necessarily saying that IDF should stop fighting.

But this war is different in that all civilians seem to be trapped. Normally war creates refugees. Ukrainians, Afghans, Syrians - they were able to get out. Not all, I know, but movement was an option and it kept civilian casualties down. Why can't Gazans leave Gaza?

Time flies

Multiple sources are saying these men were captured from a school shelter and they don't know what fate they have now. From the pictures above the shoes on the ground include flip flops and very casual shoes so highly doubt it is Hamas. Why would they surrender right now, it wouldn't make sense. God it keeps getting worse.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 07/12/2023 17:44

Wow Kan news cancelled that story quickly.

EasterIssland · 07/12/2023 17:47

One of the persons from the group has been recognised as a journalist

Whatamidoinhere · 07/12/2023 17:51

Not surprised at all. This is classic Idf treatment of civilians in Palestine. The link below is from a few weeks ago in the west bank and I believe there was multiple incidents of the same nature.

That photo is ominous. I'm disgusted by the way they strip people like this as well.

paladium · 07/12/2023 19:13

@stormy4319trevor really ominous! reminds me of Guantanamo or a concentration camp.

stormy4319trevor · 07/12/2023 19:27

@paladium Or war time photos of people bound, stripped and kneeling. I wonder who these men are and what will happen to them after the photo moment has passed. We have probably all seen similar images and know they don't bode well.

paladium · 07/12/2023 19:29

@stormy4319trevor heartbreaking. Cruel, unnecessary, evil.

Parkingt111 · 07/12/2023 20:03

The BBC have reported on the images now

With fighting raging around Khan Younis and in the north, a video is circulating on social media, showing dozens of Palestinian men, stripped to their underwear, kneeling on the ground, being guarded by Israeli soldiers.
The men are thought to have been arrested in Beit Lahiya, in the far north of the Gaza Strip.
They appear to have been told to remove their shoes, which are seen scattered across the road.
Other images show them being transported in military trucks. In the Israeli media, the captives are being described as Hamas fighters who have surrendered.
The final image shows the men, bound and blindfolded, kneeling in a large area of bulldozed sand.
The Israeli army has not commented on the images, but already one well-known Palestinian journalist, Diaa Al-Kahlout, a correspondent for The New Arab, has been identified among those being held.
The New Arab said al-Kahlout had been arrested along with his brothers, relatives “and other civilians”.

Parkingt111 · 07/12/2023 20:04

It's worrying that nobody knows what has happened to them after the last image and there are no independent journalists to check either

stormy4319trevor · 07/12/2023 20:11

There was a poet arrested in one of these roundups of men recently. I think he said they were taken to Beersheva prison? He said they were beaten and interrogated. He was let go, possibly because he is known by the American public as a writer and there were protests about him being held. I think he didn't know what happened to the others.

Parkingt111 · 07/12/2023 20:16

@stormy4319trevor not only men but reports of women too
Some of the detainees who were released in the recent truce have reported that there are women from Gaza being held there in terrible conditions

The Israeli Prison Service have refused to disclose how many Gazans are being held in israeli prisons

stormy4319trevor · 07/12/2023 20:50

@Parkingt111 Oh yes, I remember hearing about women from Gaza being held too, leaving children behind as well.

stormy4319trevor · 07/12/2023 20:52

I thought there were laws about the treatment of prisoners pf war, and that stripping and beating them would be against those laws. But there's no comment about it from international organisations,

Parkingt111 · 07/12/2023 21:17

Further update on those images and in particular about the journalist who was spotted in them from the BBC

The news outlet Al-Araby al-Jadeed has condemned what it describes as the "humiliating" detention of its Gaza correspondent Diaa Kahlout by Israeli forces earlier today.
In a statement, it said Kahlout's brothers, relatives and a large number of civilians were also detained by the Israeli forces in Beit Lahia, a city in the north of Gaza.
It adds soldiers forced them "to disrobe, and subjected them to invasive searches and humiliating treatment upon their arrest, prior to transporting them to undisclosed locations".
The outlet "urges the international community, journalists’ rights defenders and watchdogs, and human rights bodies to denounce this ongoing assault" by Israel on journalists in the territory.

Just for information, nothing to do with the thread really, dozens of Hamas terrorists just surrendered to IDF

No, this is absolutely not true ! The IDF have been rounding up all men and boys over 15, stripping them and kidnapping or executing them. They consist of doctors, lawyers, bakers, journalists etc. just normal men and young boys, this is a war crime !!
They are not Hamas, they are rounding them up from refugee centres, they are wearing sandals and sliders, no combat boots or uniforms to be seen. Do you not think if they were Hamas, they would show them in combat gear ??

Just putting this here:

Check out the guy standing on top of the tank to the left - SANDALS and no uniforms to be seen.

Hundreds die and hostages held as Hamas assault shocks Israel

Netanyahu declares war as at least 250 Israelis are killed; more than 230 Palestinians die in airstrikes launched in response

What a horrible comment

Xenia · 07/12/2023 21:55

As all know Hamas and ISIS are well known for suicide bombing. It is very wise of the Israeli soldiers to ensure the terrorists remove their clothing so they can be sure no weapons are there. Israel is doing a very difficult job very well.

Commenting on the bodies of men forced to strip and subjected to invasive body searches. Contributing to their humiliation. There really aren't words for that.

Meanwhile, you are an apologist for Israeli warcrimes and the mass killing of babies and children. If you support this, you have no humanity.
