Do lots of people support Hamas?

elprup · 03/12/2023 20:33

I just read this story and it is absolutely horrific

I saw ten Hamas terrorists beat and gang-rape an Israeli woman

https://mol.im/a/12820081

Is everyone on the pro-Palestine marches in London solely supporting the innocent civilians of Palestine (as I do too)? Or are there some people on these marches supporting the actions of Hamas as well?

I want to join the marches in support of innocent adults and kids in Gaza (and I would want to march for the same reasons on any pro Israel marches too), but I do not want to endorse Hamas in any shape or form. They are absolutely vile.

Do lots of people support genocide? That would be an interesting thread to start.

By the way, for the record, lest I be smeared, I do not support Hamas.

Not saying you are a supporter.

However it is very telling that your post above started with "they are disgusted at what Israel is doing to Palestinians as well as what Hamas did to Israelis." You placed Israel first! You also use the plural "they" in your post as if you are speaking for everybody.

Just saying, like.

Nothing stopping you starting a thread about it

It definitely is fascist to think that. It is just having an interest in basic human psychology to think about how people react to news or evidence. Then pondering on the react or lack of react people give. Especially when the likes of some celebrities or even posters on mumsnet call out every human tragedy that happens, yet are silent about the pogrom. Then even if pushed they give a slight reference then go all whatabout and don't want to talk about the torture, rapes or murders or only do so too deny they are true.

A fascist is actually someone that doesn't want to debate things and tries to cancel anyone that has a different opinion than themselves

Tim Minchin did a brilliant stand up talk on fascism and confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is definitely what a lot of posters on mumsnet seem to have at the moment. Which is interesting because that leads to fascism that they accuse others of being. Like many words getting used on the conflict board it seems some posters don't understand the meaning or definition in real world terms.

Is there a typo in your first line?

To answer the question.

Yes. Lots do.

And there are a few on MN but whom are very careful to hide it.

However, there are 4 or 5 main Pro Palestinian posters extremely active on the conflict boards and they probably keep changing their names so it looks like they have support. Anyway, if you go through their posts - easy to do - just open up a thread in a browser and hit Ctrl and F together and type in their user name, you will see all their posts and see a pattern and zero condemnation for Hamas. They engage in extreme whataboutery about Israel and how they have treated Gazans badly for 75 years and therefore Israel had it coming. They also pop up on threads where obviously Jewish people are discussing concerns about Anti- Semitism.

These are the Hamas supporters. Easy to spot. I know who these posters are. Edited

Wow

That is a clever IT trick / tip

Never occurred to me such a thing was possible to do. I just normally go on the hundreds of posts by some users that barely mention anything negative about Hamas or try to change the conversation if something negative is discussed (We seem to have a live one of those on this thread currently)

It is simpler to the antisemitism in working out what and who you are dealing with. It isn't always what they say but more what they don't say

This works best if you select all the posts on a thread to be available on a single page from the settings option otherwise you have to keep advancing the pages. The downside to this is that long threads take a long time to load.

Oh dear yes sorry 😂

I really should stop multi tasking when on mumsnet and proof read my posts before submitting

That was a fairly bad one wasn't it. Sorry to late for me to edit it. Thing you and others realised what I meant or at least I hope you do

sorry about that and no you are definitely not a fascist in fact you are being anti fascist in your thinking. Just as Tim Minchin points out in his confirmation bias video

I mean you could say the same thing about the pro genocide posters. Zero condemnation for the killing of nearly 20000 people, its the opposite, its post after post defending it. Those core pro genocide posters have had multiple posts deleted for racism, it's obvious why they don't care that innocent people are being killed in huge numbers. The anger and disgust those posters show when anyone puts the innocent people killed on 7/10 on the same level as the innocent people killed over the past 2 months is a sight to behold and really shows their true feelings.

Sounds like someone could collect all the data and make a graph comparison of various users. Then we would really know who the bad faith actors are

We could hand out a prize to the biggest Hamas supporter😂

Trulywonderful · 04/12/2023 13:16

Some posters are of course going to go on the defensive about a thread asking how if lots of people support Hamas

However no need to be defensive if you post you don't have anything to hide

Same goes for the idea that threads can be analysed for data

Just saying.....

Quite a defensive post, Kitty.

Mumsnet are so getting various of posters reporting your post now to try and get it deleted

I can positively feel some users wetting themselves about this😂

Depdawg · 04/12/2023 13:19

Well the bullies harassing diners in a USA restaurant certainly don't support freedom of movement. They dont support the Jewish community either. They call for death to Jews. So yes, many sick people do support Hamas.

No idea why those words are underlined.

Trulywonderful · 04/12/2023 13:22

Back to the thread

Hamas sucks

Hamas supporters suck

Mumsnet users that silently support Hamas suck

The general public of the UK at least doesn't support Hamas. A small percentage do but they are all radicalised fuckwits that don't represent the rest of the UK

marvellousceiling · 04/12/2023 13:25

People are defensive because they are tired of calling for peace and an end to genocide yet getting smeared as "supporting Hamas" by the same posters over and over again. It is all over every thread.

So when a thread like this is started, we anticipate it is another attempt to do the same (as evidenced by some posters on here suggesting not expressing condemnment of Hamas in every post means support for Hamas - WTF). All we are asking is for a ceasefire and an end to the oppression of Palestinians, and peace for all Israelis and Palestinians.

Happy to admit that some people support Hamas. Just keen to avoid conflation of support for Hamas with support for Palestinians, as this distracts from the cause for a ceasefire.

For the record, once again, I do not condone or support Hamas.

The post where I suggest a few may be supporters and the CTRL F hack?

How would this break talk guidelines?

Lindos1 · 04/12/2023 13:29

Matt Goodwin has just published that according to his polling, 26% of Londoners view Hamas as 'freedom fighters'.

BeggyMitchell · 04/12/2023 13:03

Thank you for this post.

Seconded. You can also see on live threads, as the comments are posted the pattern forming.
The ultimate giveaway is not remaining neutral or not posting support fighting against antisemitism threads. Instead, to ease themselves in with a (quick and dismissive) condemnation of Hamas, before shifting the blame on the Jewish community. They bring it on themselves, don't you know.

swimsong · 04/12/2023 13:31

elprup · 03/12/2023 21:06

I want to march for peace between Israel and Palestine, and for Israelis and Palestinians to live together in unity. That clearly won’t happen whilst Hamas still exists.

Are you suggesting that it could happen while West Bank settlers are throwing rocks at the heads of young children walking to and from school - with the support of the Israeli army and police - because they don't want Palestinian neighbours on Palestinian land?

This, and the burning of thousand year old olive groves necessary for Palestinian livelihood has been going on for years. When you see a march against anti-semitism, do you wonder if they all support settler attrocities in the West Bank?

No idea if breaking any rules and it probably isn't

However I can guarantee you that some people have reported your post. It totally cocks up the narrative some like to give if we can see a pattern or coalition to how they post. I mean most of us have witnessed it but to have data. Now that is something completely different.

I won't actually have a go at this myself at the moment. No until I have the time to make up an excel spreadsheet and do it properly anyway😁

Sounds about right. A small amount of exstemists, larger portion of those raised to believe this and then the rest is a bigger portion that are useful idiots going off what social media tell them.

Oh I know my posts are always reported. I take this as being awarded a badge of honour as my posts have struck home.

For example, as I soon as I posted a link to an anti-Israel thread (300of them and counting), my post was deleted. It was jumped upon by ravenous lynx eyed post predators. 😅
