Conflict in the Middle East

Do lots of people support Hamas?

elprup · 03/12/2023 20:33

I just read this story and it is absolutely horrific

I saw ten Hamas terrorists beat and gang-rape an Israeli woman

https://mol.im/a/12820081

Is everyone on the pro-Palestine marches in London solely supporting the innocent civilians of Palestine (as I do too)? Or are there some people on these marches supporting the actions of Hamas as well?

I want to join the marches in support of innocent adults and kids in Gaza (and I would want to march for the same reasons on any pro Israel marches too), but I do not want to endorse Hamas in any shape or form. They are absolutely vile.

Reposting this from elsewhere, as seems relevant to this thread.
Like you were...

Quick question if you don't mind

To you are the peace activists those that don't support Hamas or the ones that don't call out Hamas?

Else are you saying both act the same?

beigecartoon · 04/12/2023 13:41

@Trulywonderful it was a comment that those calling for peace are getting smeared, time and time again, as if they have a different agenda (such as supporting Hamas), when it is just what it is - they are calling for peace.

I am condemn Hamas, and I condemn Israeli govt behaviour.

Really 🤷🏻‍♀️ I notice you don't refute what I said though 😂

Hey Kitty.

Sorry to derail and this could be the most irrelevant, trivial reply either -but may I point out that I think your username is one of the best and memorable on MJ. I love the assonance and are you a cat lover? I think cats are amazing - so hopefully this could be something we agree on.

@Depdawg you've just illustrated my point beautifully. I'm sorry if it offends you. As I said above, I condemn Hamas.

Oh I know my posts are always reported. I take this as being awarded a badge of honour as my posts have struck home.

For example, as I soon as I posted a link to an anti-Israel thread (300of them and counting), my post was deleted. It was jumped upon by ravenous lynx eyed post predators. 😅

Edited

My Tim Minchin YouTube video really sums them up at the end, even though he is talking about woke in it. The confirmation bias is rife on some threads. A tad of fascism in the tryto cancel a different opinion too. It is why most people avoid and they only end up talking to a few that are willing to go deep diving or themselves. Sad really because conversation or debate teaches us all way more about the conflict than attacking posters.

I think you miss read the conversation then. Most of us are like you and condemn boths behaviour. However some posters on mumsnet that claim to be peace activists really never say anything negative about Hamas. They often actively jump on threads like this to derail and have multiple times tried to discredit any evidence of Hamas doing wrong. These are the posters we are referring too. This is what we have seen for weeks now. Any thread that is anti Hamas or about antisemitism is targeted by the same fuckwits trying to pull the same crap yet claiming they love Jews and are anti Hamas

i don’t get it either , it’s like when people blame Israel for no good or fuel when Hamas has plenty if food and plenty of fuel to support his people underground and launch hundreds of rockets a day . Blame Hamas and those who support him .
To be fair it’s a bit like women in Palestine , despite some being influencers most are very restricted in what they can do . I work with an amazing Palestinian woman who left Gaza when Hamas was already in power , her aunt brought her over after a visit and she refused to return as a teenager and ended up dating here since 2008 and has studied has a career and got married had kids etc . I didn’t what to ask about all this but asked her if her family was safe and was surprised she has minimum contact with them . She went on to tell em she is one of 9 and she is “ disposable “ as many others children . As she has spend so many years in the west she also realised the idea of martyrdom is completely wrong and despises the idea even more now she has children . She also told me families receive money for any children that die or get arrested in connection with the IDF or Israel , many depend on those monthly payments . In her own worlds I find it all awful and sad , but Palestine needs education outside radicalism or the children will never stand a chance .
She also said women have little rights or choice on what is allowed in their life’s and with Hamas in power things only got worse .
Its very sad to see those poor kids dying but part of me can’t help but wonder why people have so many children when they have so little to give to them .
i have been to Palestine a few years ago and a few times to Israel , so I’ve been following closely

Wow I don't even know where to start with this. There are so many fallacies that I don't have the time or the will to debunk them.
I will ask you a question though: do you believe in eugenics? Your comment "Its very sad to see those poor kids dying but part of me can’t help but wonder why people have so many children when they have so little to give to them" smacks of it. Vile!

Trulywonderful · 04/12/2023 14:09

Yes that highlighted bit isn't very nice is it

Some people have no understanding or empathy for other cultures or just larger families in general it seems

But what do you think it will happen if they stop without taking hams off power? Honest question, don’t you think a few months from now hams will do the same and Israel will do the same and it will be ongoing ? Do you agree hams needs to leave power ?

Tryingmybestadhd · 04/12/2023 14:41

No I don’t believe in eugenics but I do believe in parents being responsible for what they do . Why will anyone have 5 children if you can’t even afford to feed them and do you actually realise the real reason in palestine ?

She is literally just saying she will die for al aqsa mosque ... Because she loves it so much. Have you never heard anyone say something similar?

How is she spouting hate? ... If that's the worst case of Hamas supporting you can find then you need to get a reality check.

I think Israel not allowing anywhere near enough food into Gaza at the moment is the main reason people can't feed their children.

Of course it's hate speech; it's extremism. Good Lord 🙄

Or maybe because children are seen as something somewhat disposable ? I even have Palestinian colleagues telling me this .

You are being disgustingly islamaphobic. If a Jew said they love their holy land and I called that person an extremist you would call me anti-Semitic.

You very well know it is one of the most holiest sites for Muslims.

There's a lot of disposable children in this conflict. Jewish people will also tell you that.

It sounds extreme until you realise that Al Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem has been the subject of a tug of war between Israeli and Palestinian for decades. Extremist factions and the IDF have attacked Muslim worshippers in the mosque and certain far right extremists groups are lobbying to have it demolished and a synagogue built in its place, that they call the 3rd Temple.

On the grounds of the Al-Aqsa complex, one of the most revered places in Islam and Judaism, a delicate balance that governs this holy site is under strain.

I just don't personally think it is fair to judge Gazens for having big families. There are cultural reasons like for religious people the more children you have the more blessed you are said to be. However mostly it is likely to be for a similar reason as many people in poorer countries tend to have bigger families. There are multiple reasons as to why this happens.

You judge from a western point of view where contraception is easily available, where the cultural norm is to have small family and where family ties are not as strong as in the past; let alone not using contraception on religious grounds.
Please explain to me what you imply by "do you actually realise the real reason in Palestine"? This does not make sense grammatical or otherwise ( I have an inkling what you mean but I want you to spell it out).
