Yes we're all terrible people.

Why are you on this thread if you don't want to talk about Israeli hostages? Do you find joy in lecturing people?

Well since you ask I do find it a bit distasteful.

EllaDisenchanted · 28/11/2023 15:05

@Parkingt111 i thought Egypt and Qatar had been involved (I’m probably wrong). The whole thing has been very confusing.

Qatar is the only mediator

Israel Hamas Egypt and US were all parties to the negotiations

Israel and Hamas are the signatories to the hostage exchange agreement

@StarbucksSmarterSister so iv just seen on sky that unfortunately it doesn't seem like anything can go ahead until this has been resolved
It seems most likely that both sides will have to take their claims on who broke the ceasefire and how to Qatar which will try and attempt to diffuse the situation

Sky also said its in both Israel's and Hamas's best interests to keep the truce atleast for these two days so I'm hoping it can be resolved

Especially as it was reported earlier that the families of the hostages that were supposed to be released today have already been informed

It must be torture thinking they are about to be released and then this.

Stomacharmeleon · 28/11/2023 15:34

@Reallifelurker the thread title was specifically altered to prevent this issue and confusion about the topic.

XRAYTHIS · 28/11/2023 15:35

If I was held by a vile terrorist group I'd smile and wave and write thank you letters for (kidnapping us) then treating our children well, especially since there are lots more hostages in captivity.

The propaganda works though on many who have commented that they 'looked after them well'. The naivety is astounding.

Actually I think I've got that wrong apologies @EllaDisenchanted

Qatar was the only mediator for the hostage negotiations

But you're quite right when there was a wobble in the ceasefire agreement previous to this Qatar and Egypt were both involved in mediating the dispute

Every thread goes the same way and it's the same names

Every thread, regardless of the subject.

Every thread.

I try not to engage with the whatabouters and keep on topic, but my god, it's hard

Read the thread title. Respond appropriately

It's not hard, it's what Mumsnet is about.

Every sodding thread.

Stomacharmeleon · 28/11/2023 15:39

@EllaDisenchanted I thought I had read when there was an issue day two Egypt had been involved with mediations.

Stomacharmeleon · 28/11/2023 15:41

@XRAYTHIS actually I don't think they are naive. I think they have more in common with Mince then they would admit....

I was on the first thread 'Hostages' for weeks and it was fine - some tension and the occ spat

Keeping the thread [and hope] alive during the interminable negotiations was the biggest issue

Unfortunately the thread ended not long after the hostages/detainees were released and the new thread naturally didn't have the same resilience when lots of apparently new posters joined the thread

So I don't recognise your 'analysis' in this case

EsmaCannonball · 28/11/2023 15:51

'Trading' hostages with other jihadi groups just reminds of ISIS/ISIL and their slave trade of captive civilians. Do western people still want the ideology that enacts slavery to win?

You're on this thread because you find it distasteful to talk about Israeli hostages? You know you don't have to be, right?

What's the source for the trading allegations please? Been following this pretty closely and must have missed that

It's been my understanding that other jihadis went on the 7/10 rampage and grabbed their own hostages

Iwantcakeeveryday · 28/11/2023 16:30

Oh no, I really really hope they can just move on and get the hostages released, especially as their families have been told.

Hamas have said they gave Kfir and his family to another group who now won't release them.

Thanks - I didn't know that

Is it just Kfir, mum and sibling? Or have there been other 'gifts'

StarbucksSmarterSister · 28/11/2023 16:34

16 days in solitary confinement. Sickening.

They were mentioned specifically but Hamas are claiming they can't find around 40 I think.

That is just horrible. To do to anyone, but a child? Its a kind of torture. That poor child. I hope the toddlers weren't left like that. Sickening.

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/11/2023 16:43

Some really awful details beginning to emerge from the hostages (obviously, allegedly, as source is X):

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/11/2023 16:45

Yes, all this talking about Gaza on a board dedicated to discussing the Israel-Gaza war.
Must be baffling and frustrating in equal measure.

Don't be disingenius, you know what the thread title is.
