So glad they released a further 11 "detainees" tonight 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Humdingerydoo hey so I had a look at the actual tweet which is in Arabic. It seems that the English Is from Google translate
The word used for the hostages in Arabic was 'Muhtajaz'
My Arabic is quite rusty but i know there are many words that are used interchangeably and therefore can be lost in translation
So I checked in my Arabic dictionary and these were the three translations given for the word.

The Qataris have played a big role in negotiating the hostage release. I don't think they would purposefully undermine their own efforts through word play but rather something that has gotten mixed up in translation
Anybody who has better command of the Arabic language and no otherwise please do feel free to share

Would you be able to send me the original Arabic tweet? Thank you :)

Parkingt111 · 27/11/2023 21:07

@Humdingerydoo yes sure
Also to keep in mind that there are many different arabic dialects. And sometimes different words are used for different meanings. On a side note my DH was most amused to see me looking through my old arabic dictionary

They are now in Israel.

Video of the handover to Red Cross shows a child believed to be Yuval Engel being transported to the van in a wheelchair.

That baby, I can't stop thinking of him. He and Ariel are almost the same age as my 2 children, and I just can't bear it.
(Selfishly making it all about me, I'm so sorry.)

Kaffeebitte · 27/11/2023 21:29

Is this all the children listed ? By my count 35 on here. How many have now been released does anyone know ? https://letmychildrengo.info/hostages

Stomacharmeleon · 27/11/2023 21:29

@CatLoaf I feel the same If it's any consolation.
What happens now then if Hamas Don't have them?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 27/11/2023 21:31

CatLoaf it's natural. I have a 3 and 4 year old niece and nephew and I keep thinking what if it was them.

It's the last thing I think of at night and the first thing I think I wanna get up in the morning.

I just read that Hagar Brodetz who looked after little Avigail along with her own children, actually thought her husband was dead until she was released yesterday.

Has anyone else seen this footage of the Red Cross vehicles carrying the hostages being mobbed? Terrorised right till the very last minute. Those poor people.

Trulywonderful · 27/11/2023 22:58

A cousin from one of the hostages on the first day of the pause said something about stones getting thrown at his relative as they left the tunnels. They thought they were going to be executed appropriately. Hamas led them out without saying they were going to be released. It must have been so scary.

Stomacharmeleon · 27/11/2023 23:16

@SomeCatFromJapan that must be very frightening if you are a child, have been told nothing and separated from those you have been held with.

Gosh that's heartbreaking.
A family member on the news said they weren't allowed to talk in normal speaking voices the whole time so they were struggling to talk normally now, everything had to be quiet.
That little Emily looked utterly shell shocked in particular. I hope all these people especially the children get all the help they need to recover.

XRAYTHIS · 28/11/2023 08:06

It is lovely to see more hostages released this morning. It sounds like Hamas have to come up with 10 names of hostages to be released each day now to continue the ceasefire. I believe there are still around 150 hostages not accounted for.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 28/11/2023 09:15

How awful, so thats ordinary citizens of Gaza doing that? @SomeCatFromJapan

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/11/2023 09:20

@Iwantcakeeveryday looks like it, inasmuch as one can trust twitter footage I suppose, I've seen quite a few accounts post the same.

There were a lot of kids too, its awful. The narrative is Hamas is a small terrorist group and the rest of Gaza are innocent, but thats clearly not the case if they're joining in terrorising these hostages. Just awful.

That's an absurd conflation. There's maybe 30 people in that video, the majority doing or saying nothing. Say what you like about Hamas but don't make baseless assertions about 2 million people on one Twitter clip.

Stomacharmeleon · 28/11/2023 09:50

@Iwantcakeeveryday that is definitely not the case. As horrible as it sounds.

The situation with kfir and his family also blows the myth out of the water that Hamas have this reign of terror over anyone in Gaza and no one dare say a word.

I didn't though! I simply said the narrative they're ALL innocent, is not true. In fact Hamas aren't from outside Gaza either, are they. SO what I said is accurate and please don't attempt to accuse me of things I did not say, I did not say all are one or the other.

whereaw · 28/11/2023 10:35

Terrorist organisations can't exist in a vacuum, of course there is much wider support, and of course that doesn't mean everyone in Gaza is included in that!!
What I don't understand is why the world is not collectively rising up to say we need to stamp out terrorism and extremism and we stand with all people against Hamas, Israel and all innocent Palestinian civilians. The Free Palestine and Isreal vs Palestine rhetoric is only helping the Hamas cause in my opinion. People who ascribe to this extreme Islamic ideology are never going to be de-radicalised and they are our enemy too.

Efacsen · 28/11/2023 10:38

There is an article on BBC Verify about the 5 other terrorists groups in Gaza but for some reason it won't let me copy to here
