There's a lot of misinformation/propaganda spreading around and this thread is to raise awareness of the ones circulating. Here's one for example:

If you read the transcript it couldn’t possibly have been prerecorded because there are too many allusions to absolutely current events.

Elon Levy (Israeli spokesperson) is claiming that the air strike death toll in Gaza is far lower than in other 21st century conflicts. They are using data about other conflicts provided by a London based NGO who calculate the number of deaths per air strike which causes harm. The IDF have added their own Gaza column to graph and calculated the number of deaths per air strike by dividing total number of deaths by TOTAL NUMBER OF AIR STRIKES which is how they end up with a rate of deaths per air strike of 0.8 which is significantly lower than in other conflicts.

Dr Ian Overton, who runs the NGO whose data is being used by Israel has tweeted and asked them to delete their tweet because it is inaccurate. Elon Levy has refused to delete and suggested a "community notice". He has now hidden the challenge to his original tweet.

They lie intentionally and rely on people only paying attention to the "headline".

It pains me to post a link to Owen Jones, I'm not a fan, but he gives a full explanation here:

Ffs do you realise that my point is that the ceasefire, however temporary, required concessions from Hamas as well as Israel? Like there are two sides in this conflict and demanding that one put down its weapons while making no demands of the other is completely stupid?

The best concession Israel could make is to stop the occupation. Have you forgotten that Gaza has been under siege for 17 years? Food, water, medicine, building materials, paper, basically anything of use to Palestinians is monitored, confiscated or rationed.

I am sure you are right about amplifying deaths caused by the IDF, and even if there were deaths caused by own fire it would never have happened without the Hamas attack in the first place.

But Regev said in a television interview that they’d revised their figure of those killed by Hamas Oct 7 down by 200 because they realised 200 of the burned bodies were of Hamas terrorists. So there was some question about how they got burned when they were the ones doing the burning. Not that this mention of the 200 burned Hamas terrorists is conclusive of anything.

Then about the apache helicopters, there was a report with videos shown to be wrong because the videos were from a completely different place (Syria?), but there was this report from Haaretz by
Joshua (Josh) Breiner
November 18, 2023
Excerpt (my bold)
“There is a growing assessment in the security establishment that the terrorists who carried out the massacre on October 7 did not know in advance about the Nova festival held near Kibbutz Ra'im, and decided to come to the place after discovering that a mass event was taking place there. The security system's assessment relies, among other things, on the investigations of the terrorists and the investigation of the incident by the police, from which it appears that the terrorists intended to reach Kibbutz Ra'im and nearby kibbutzim. According to a police source, an investigation into the incident also revealed that an IDFcombat helicopter that arrived at the scene from the Ramat David base fired at the terrorists and apparently also hit some of the revelers who were there

I translated this from Hebrew using Google. It was never in English Haaretz.

In an article today about the IDF accidentally killing three hostages, there is a quote from a former hostage relating how frightened they had been in the tunnels fearing that they would be killed by Israeli bombs but Israel would blame Hamas.

Re helicopters Oct 7 she said (my bolding).
"The reality is that I was in a hideout that was bombed, and we became wounded refugees. This doesn't even include the helicopter that fired at us on our way to Gaza," she said.

Propaganda from the IDF.

They've taken a folded piece of paper and placed it in a book to look as if it is part of the book.

@DownNative There's been countless videos going round X the last few months purporting to be of Gaza when it's actually of Syria. (I'm not downplaying the devastation in Gaza btw)

Tripper79 · 09/01/2024 22:31

There’s so much misinformation that’s been put out there about both sides that it’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not anymore.

I think the thing to remember is that even though a news story might be inaccurate, it doesn’t mean that something horrific didn’t happen. The story about the 40 beheaded babies wasn’t accurate but that doesn’t mean that babies weren’t killed on 7th October in awful ways so it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to minimise the events of that day.

Just like some of the IDF stories may not be accurate but that doesn’t mean that war crimes have not been committed by the Israeli army and they haven’t done some awful things as well.

etmoiandme · 09/01/2024 22:33

@Tripper79 Agree.

Yep. How about this for blatant anti-semitic material?

Fake Israeli newspaper headline claiming Israelis shorted shares ahead of 7th October 2023. 🤦‍♂️

Headline about Israelis selling shares ahead of 7 October attack is fake - Full Fact

Contrary to a screenshot circulating on social media, an Israeli newspaper did not publish a headline claiming Israelis made millions shorting shares ahead of the 7 October attacks.

It would make sense that Hamas would bet on the market against Israel in the days before launching a terrorist attack, however the authors of the report appear to have made a colossal miscalculation in the amount of money involved.

So this was a fake headline yet people are still suggesting it's true. Its difficult to correct original stories since many move on to the next story.

The hospital that was apparently blown up turned out to be a misfires rocket from hamas.

Tic toc and x and Instagram users share, react and then form opinion on fake stories that continue to be shared.

Then there is the conspiracy theorists who suggest the correction is a lie...

Why would Israel investigate a story that turned out to be fake?

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 09:06

It is worth noting that the original headline was "Did Hamas Make Millions Betting Against Israeli Shares Before October 7 Massacre?"

So there was a short-selling story, it's just the culprits have been switched.

The short-selling story itself was based on a miscalculation and that's why the investigation was dropped.

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware of original.

The shares were sold all right.
It’s a question of who sold them.
