Of the 50 journalists on the ground in Gaza (residents) 35 have been killed.

If you haven’t already I highly recommend following them on instagram.

I think this really sums up the great work under extreme conditions the journalists have been enduring

“Journalists across the region are making great sacrifices to cover this heart-breaking conflict. Those in Gaza, in particular, have paid, and continue to pay, an unprecedented toll and face exponential threats. Many have lost colleagues, families, and media facilities, and have fled seeking safety when there is no safe haven or exit.”

They really are coming for everyone . Destroy all social cohesion and information. Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha arrested by Israelis in Gaza, family says | Gaza | The Guardian
"Eventually, they got his name and his wife’s name and the other kids on the list, and they were waiting to get out when it was safe,” Buttu said. “They were trying to evacuate from the north to the south, when they were stopped at a checkpoint with a lot of others. They were told to lift their arms to show they didn’t have anything. Mosab was ordered to put his son down and then the army grabbed him, along with a lot of other men, 200, his wife said. His wife has not heard from him since.”
Neither the US state department nor the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), responded to requests for comment.
Abu Toha had been writing in the New Yorker magazine about his experiences under bombardment in Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. A collection of his poetry published in English in the US was a finalist in the National Book Critics Circle award and won an American Book award this year."

@Silence1 I was sad to see this- a poet for goodness sake. I suppose they didn't like him writing for the New Yorker. I hope the writer of Gaza diary is OK.

Silence1 · 20/11/2023 23:14

@ketchup07070 yes he had written about the conditions
"On the main street leading to my house, I find the first of many shocking scenes. A shop where I used to take my children, to buy juice and biscuits, is in shambles. The freezer, which used to hold ice cream, is now filled with rubble. I smell explosives, and maybe flesh,” he wrote."

PEN International ‘deeply concerned’ over news of Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha’s arrest by Israeli forces | CNN

A Palestinian writer and poet who had been contributing to The New Yorker and other publications with reflections on his life inside Gaza during the war has been detained by the Israeli military, according to his brother.

He wrote
"One idea in particular haunts me, and I cannot push it away,” he wrote. “Will I, too, become a statistic on the news?”

ketchup07070 · 20/11/2023 23:21

Maybe the fact that he's published in US will give him some connections to help. I don't see how UK politicians can say this is all necessary to destroying Hamas. What excuse can they make for this, I wonder. In fact, what excuses do our esteemed politicians make for the killing of 50 journalists?

Zonder · 21/11/2023 07:05

A poet 🥺 I suppose while he's arrested and not shot outright there's still hope. What happened to freedom of speech?

EasterIssland · 21/11/2023 10:57

Another 2 killed in Lebanon.
one of the journalists had been reporting how they were being intimidated by Israel
An Spanish account I follow mentions that a drone had shot at them

Sadly yes another two journalists killed. This is despite the CPJ report yesterday on the attack on journalists

From the guardian
The Lebanese prime minister has reportedly condemned the Israeli attack that has killed two journalists in southern Lebanon.
Najib Mikati is quoted by local media as saying: “This attack proves once again that there are no limits to Israeli crime, and that its goal is to silence the media that exposes its crimes and attacks.”

Such a waste of innocent life. The attack on journalists by the Israeli governmend and IDF during this war has truly been shocking. Although I would expect nothing less from Netanyahu.

Good news. He has been released

TakeMe2Insanity · 22/11/2023 12:31

Does anyone know if Moatiz has posted? Apparently his building was targeted.

Are you sure the News channel is not being run by Hamas? And what do you mean by independent watchdog - the funds are coming through the hamas tunnels.

🙄

Are you incapable of applying any type of critical thinking? If you do not trust one source then look for others. If others corroborate the events then it is extremely likely that they happened. Where you never taught this?

Auvergne63 · 22/11/2023 14:38

Stomacharmeleon · 19/11/2023 21:52

@Kindatired and who put them in the firing line? Who buried underneath them? Set weapons up on top of them? Dragged the babies and elderly amongst them?
Who left them in that situation.... Hamas.

Israel is a "democracy" therefore should have moral compass and act appropriately. If you think this carnage, this ethnic cleansing is because of Hamas, you are deluded.

Stomacharmeleon · 22/11/2023 14:46

@Auvergne63 the moral direction is shaped by collective choices and societal norms of the leaders and citizens involved.... they are at war due to a massacre of its people. I imagine your 'moral Compass' would be shaped by that.

Auvergne63 · 22/11/2023 15:03

Your definition of moral direction seems to leave out dictatorship. It also implies that all Israelis support what their government are doing in their name. This is far from the truth. If you took the time to research this, you will find that any who do not agree with the government are being arrested/beaten. A democracy which does not allow descent is not a democracy.
I won't mention the thousands of Jewish people who are asking for a ceasefire, notably in the USA.
Finally, don't worry, my moral compass is firmly set to truth and justice. I was brought by parents who grew up under German occupation. They taught me a lot.

A journalist producing fake content of a fake attack by a "Palestinian militant". He should lose his job but he works for Fox so journalistic integrity probably isn't a condition of his employment.

Auvergne63 · 22/11/2023 17:03

I have a friend who has (or had as he doesn't know) family in Gaza.

@Auvergne63 I meant more in... what you are posting about Israel is not my reality or the reality of those I know.

Public opinion isn't really in Israel's favour at the moment. That also hints that Biden knows the Israeli government are in the wrong.

Spread happiness not hatred
Verily with hardship there is ease

Verily Allah is with those who are patient
If patience is bitter then it's reward it's reward is sweet
Verily in being patient there is help
And with hardship there is ease
And verily with hardship there is ease.

It's not an exact translation but thereabouts.
