Of the 50 journalists on the ground in Gaza (residents) 35 have been killed.

If you haven’t already I highly recommend following them on instagram.

I’ve reported many comments for hate speech against Muslim people in the last few days (I’m not Muslim but it’s appealing that for supporting Jewish you’ve to present an story where all Muslims are terrorists)

Me too. The absolute hate a not insignificant amount of posters have displayed over the past while has really disturbed me. I really think a few of those threads should be closed altogether.

Gaza's "Ministry of Information." What do you think that is?

Hamas.

It's Hamas.

Are they renowned for their honesty?

Are you expecting them to survive Israeli carpet bombing and illegal use of white phosphorus. Or the lack of water and food

EasterIssland · 05/11/2023 17:21
  1. One photojournalist, Muhammad Al-Alul, lost his wife and four of his children
Stomacharmeleon · 05/11/2023 17:22

If you think there is Islamophobia on those threads then you need to report it.

Stomacharmeleon · 05/11/2023 17:25

@Rubbishagain I don't know how many times you have to be told....

Israel aren't 'carpet-bombing' by sheer definition.
White phosphorus is not illegal in war where there are military targets.

I know it's unpalatable. And now your going to scream and rage. But at least be factually correct.

The usage of white phosphorus is restricted under international humanitarian law. Although there can be lawful uses, it must never be fired at, or in close proximity to, a populated civilian area or civilian infrastructure, due to the high likelihood that the fires and smoke it causes spread. Such attacks, which fail to distinguish between civilians and civilian objects and fighters and military objectives, are indiscriminate and thus prohibited.

edit to add : the other day a UN school was targeted. That’s not allowed

@OuiOuiKitty@EasterIssland Thanks for reporting, I usually do too but sometimes it feels overwhelming when there's so much hateful speech. It does feel like some groups are fair game, while it's absolutely not tolerated with others. When it should be zero tolerance all round.

@Stomacharmeleon I have reported every Islamophobic post I've seen and most have been removed. Admittedly that thread was a bit overwhelming and I just stepped away, but looking now I can see that other posters have reported as many of the islamophobic comments have been deleted.

OuiOuiKitty · 05/11/2023 17:13

I have to say I have found some of the threads about antisemitism and the protests absolutely shocking when it comes to attitudes to Muslims. What's even worse is that those posts go unchallenged. It is clear as day what is being implied and it is disgraceful.

What strikes me is the assumption that's posted over and over again, that the marches are inherently antisemitic and in support of Hamas, and that those attending don't understand what they're doing. It's infantilising and condescending.

If you think there is Islamophobia on those threads then you need to report it.

That's true I should report but I haven't
There has been comments on threads that have either been outright islamophobic or then very strongly implied
Many of the posters who are discussing antisemitism agree or then brush past it
But then I suppose it does happen with anti semitism on other threads too unfortunately

You should take your own advice.

The targeted attacks on journalists is a horrible trend ( the whole thing is horrible) but the desperation for the truth not to come out or be catalogued just smacks of something so much more sinister.

Another tragic death of a journalist along with 44 members of his family. Just let that sink in FOURTY FOUR MEMBERS.
How people are still defending Israel it its attack of journalists is beyond me

A thread about some lies Israel might be now spreading about journalists from Gaza supporting Hamas in the attacks
https://twitter.com/muhammadshehad2/status/1722553969971446080

Stomacharmeleon · 09/11/2023 22:43

If it's lies wouldn't you rather it disappeared than stir up more interest amongst 700k a month users and about 7 million across the board?
Just seems an odd approach...

No. If you read the thread it does explain why they might be targeting journalists in Gaza. Because they believe they took part of the attack hence they regard them as terrorists as well.

EasterIssland · 09/11/2023 22:50

ps just seen a comment in another thread saying journalists were with hamas on that day , so it doesn’t matter if I bring it to this thread or not , that comment is already in mn as well

Stomacharmeleon · 09/11/2023 23:11

I read the article. It's not the first time I have seen it. I am not sure what to make of it if I am being honest.
I wasn't getting at you. That was more an observation.
