Of the 50 journalists on the ground in Gaza (residents) 35 have been killed.

If you haven’t already I highly recommend following them on instagram.

Mansour Shouman is ok! Luckily he wasn't captured by the IDF, but it a very close call. He has been on the run for two weeks, going from house to house to evade them.

Another poor journalist and his son

Nafez Abdel Jawad, who worked for Palestine TV, was killed in a bombing of a residential building in the al-Salam neighbourhood in Deir el-Balah in the central Gaza Strip last night, says Al Jazeera. The news organisation said that his only son also died in the airstrike and other injuries had also been reported.

This is so sad... no journalist should ever be targeted. The fact that some have lost their families and are still reporting is courage beyond belief. Even when they receive the threatening phone calls from Israeli forces telling them to leave/stop they continue. True courage and a commitment to the truth.

@EasterIssland 'what People are meant to be backward again'?

Nice. Very analytical.

Can you let me know where I’ve said that ? I’ve searched for the word backward in the last 4 pages and can’t find it so unsure what you’re talking about

stomachameleon · 09/02/2024 14:48

@Efacsen @EasterIssland I wasn't mocking anyone's English. It's on the Twitter post they linked too. Last one.
I really wouldn't do that. Sorry if I offended.

Thanks for explaining.
Any words about the video in that Twitter link?

stomachameleon · 09/02/2024 14:52

Yes I think it's wrong to call any people 'backward'

EasterIssland · 09/02/2024 15:22

Can’t blame them to stop reporting and protect their life

Two Al Jazeera journalists targeted in Rafah

Ismail Abu Omar, an Al Jazeera correspondent, as well as his cameraman Ahmad Matar in northern Rafah, were documenting the living conditions of displaced Palestinian displaced families.

Journalists condition deteriorates overnight

Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Abu Omar, who was seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike that allegedly targeted him and his camera operator, Ahmad Matar, is now in intensive care after his health deteriorated says the news organisation.

Al Jazeera said that footage it had seen shows Omar in the intensive care unit at the European Gaza hospital in Khan Younis due to “continuous bleeding”. It aslo added that surgery is scheduled for Omar in the coming hours, which follows the amputation of his right leg on Tuesday as a result of the attack.

Efacsen · 15/02/2024 18:54

As sure as night follows day

Al Jazeera rejects Israel’s justification for ‘heinous crimes’ against journalist

Al Jazeera Media Network has issued a statement rebuking Israel for claiming that it targeted and severely injured the network’s journalist Ismail Abu Omar because he is a Hamas deputy commander.

Parkingt111 · 15/02/2024 19:11

@Efacsen so it was a targeted attack then. But apparently justified according to the Israeli authorities. They said the same for Wael's son Humza who was killed in a targeted attack too

Efacsen · 15/02/2024 19:21

@Parkingt111 yes it was a drone attack - the drone was hovering over their heads as they left - then fired on them

IDK is being a deputy Hamas commander quite a low key position that you can do alongside a full time job as a journalists in a war zone or have I got the wrong idea

Parkingt111 · 15/02/2024 19:36

@Efacsen so much killing, its as if these lives mean nothing

TakeMe2Insanity · 15/02/2024 19:47

These targeted attacks are vile.

Absolutely terrible. The only evidence the IDF have is a very short video of him on October 7, but of him just reporting on it. He was saying something along the lines of "clashes between the Mujahideen and the IDF near Kibbutz Nir Oz", according to Arabic speakers. He wasn't even near any Hamas or taking part in any atrocities, but him reporting was enough justification for targeting him. Of course Israel supporters are lapping this up and taunting poor Hind Khoudary, who is a friend of his, about it.

Good question. I thought being a Hamas commander would be a full time job in itself, especially now.
