Of the 50 journalists on the ground in Gaza (residents) 35 have been killed.

If you haven’t already I highly recommend following them on instagram.

Another journalist announces he will stop reporting for his personal safety and because how pointless he feels it is in the face of global inaction. He is one who has made the world aware of some of the most horrific scenes and effects of Israeli bombing. His comments in the pic below.

For the last three months we have seen some of the most horrific scenes from Gaza. I will never forget the father who gathered the remains of his children in carrier bags dripping with blood.

At this point I don't think anyone is changing anyone else's mind. Infact, the majority of views would likely be further deepened in their convictions, that they had at the start of the war. Children were killed in their tents in safe zones in Rafah today. There is nowhere safe in Gaza, but I pray and hope for his safety and all those suffering right now

Have you seen this? They're denying any involvement in the killing of the journalists and saying it's a complete fabrication.

It’s not Hamas who is saying journalists are dying. It’s people from Palestine reporting these deaths as they know many of them 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean clearly there is something going on when so many journalists and their families are being killed.

the link you’ve posted is Israel propaganda so to me it means nothing. When the journalists stopped being killed and international ones are allowed in(and not killed) then ill trust sources like this one

anotherlevel · 11/01/2024 22:03

@EasterIssland I don't trust it either and I'm aware it's Israel propaganda. I came across it as I was searching what a previous poster was posting about Israel's notes.

Yes I believe another poster was posting something similar few comments before about them not being journalists but Hamas terrorists.

Not in Gaza but another great journalist who was murdered by the Israeli army and who cannot be left alone in peace even in death.

Amazes me how well Israel is targeting in Lebanon and how badly they’re in Gaza and they’re getting so many journalists killed…

Bisan has said this might be her last video and she doesn't know if she will survive the night. You can hear and see the fear and worry in her voice. I really hope she does.

She is reporting the current conditions she and everyone else is in.

There are currently 19 Palestinian journalists being detained in Israeli prison according to the CPJ

Parkingt111 · 18/01/2024 20:31

Israel has joined a notorious band of authoritarian states with a history of imprisoning journalists by detaining Palestinian reporters without trial since the beginning of the latest war in Gaza.
A report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) released on Thursday said that for the first time, Israel figures in its list of “worst jailers of journalists”, putting it on a par with Iran.
The worst offenders were China and Myanmar, two countries with a long history of suppressing free speech, which each imprisoned more than 40 journalists in 2023. They were followed by Belarus, Russia and Vietnam.

Israel is in sixth place after the CPJ recorded 17 Palestinian journalists in its jails in December, the first time the country has featured among the worst offenders. It is now holding 19. Others were detained and released. Iran was also imprisoning 17 journaliststs

Jodie Ginsberg, CPJ’s chief executive, said Israel’s inclusion on the list of detained journalists reflected a broader crackdown on free speech and criticism of the war in Gaza. She said:

Israel’s standing in CPJ’s 2023 prison census is evidence that a fundamental democratic norm – press freedom – is fraying as Israel exploits draconian methods to silence Palestinian journalists. This practice must stop. The CPJ said Palestinian journalists are mostly held under the Israeli military’s powers to detain people in the occupied territories without trial or time limit. The practice, known as administrative detention, permits the army to arrest a person on suspicion alone. Some Palestinians have been held for years without charge.

9 journalists

Journalists are likely to be in significantly more danger than the rest of the civilian population, due to the nature of their activities. Is 1 journalist death per every 200-300 other deaths (which is what these figures represent) really necessarily proof that journalists who are not part of Hamas are being specifically targetted? Of course it's possible, but I don't think we really have enough information.

Journalists have protection under international law. The number of journalists being killed in Gaza is wildly out of line with journalists killed elsewhere. Israel have managed to kill more journalists since the 7th Oct than you would typically expect to get killed in an entire year in all conflicts put together.

There is also some attacked that are almost certainly deliberately targeted e.g. the group of 7 that were targeted in Lebanon.

Feels wrong ‘liking’ this message given how painful it must be to him but the man is a hero and an icon. He’s done so much to bring awareness to the genocide and the plight and suffering of Palestinians. I only hope one day Israel will allow him to return to his homeland.

anotherlevel · 23/01/2024 11:47

@Desertrose2023 I know what you mean and I hope the same. There are so many footages on Instagram that feels wrong to "like". Wish they would introduce other emojis to help with the algorithm.

Glad to see them together and alive. Feared for both their lives

I was coming here to post about Motaz too, so glad he's safe.

Both of them have gone through really tough things wael has had most his family killed and yet he’s continued working and showing the rest of the world what was happening. He was injured in an attack where his peer was killed.
I wish them the best in the future and hopefully one day they can return to a free Palestine

EasterIssland-Thanks for sharing! I'm glad they're safe. I hope one day soon, when this is all over, they will be able to return and show us the rebuilding of Gaza instead of its destruction. 🙏
