Placards from antisemitic marches in London

I had written this as a response to the other thread which was closed as it was overrun by antisemitic d**ks. As I'm sure this one will be too. They can't allow us to share the truth of what is being said and done in our own home towns and cities.

Look at these images. No, they are not in the minority or unusual. Here are just a few of many, many overtly antisemitic placards from Saturday's protest in London. (And a bonus one from 2021, which the lovely John McDonnell also spoke at.)

This is MY HOME. I am Jewish. My family fled pogroms in Eastern Europe and Nazis in Germany. Those family members who didn't flee were murdered for being Jews. And here we fucking are again. In London. And people defending it.

This is NOTHING TO DO WITH ISRAEL. These are Jew-haters, the faces of hate, the faces of anger and mockery, openly calling for Jews, for me, my family, my children, my parents, to be murdered, in my home city.

And people are defending it. How the fuck do you think we feel?

Sir Mark said he was concerned about the escalating risk of disorder caused by splinter groups breaking off from the main demonstration, saying the threat posed by them would be monitored this week.

He said the force was "never afraid to use the law to its full effect" but suggested banning the march at a late stage could create problems for police.

He continued: "If you've got tens of thousands of people coming from across the country, and they know their absolute right to protest means the gathering itself can't be banned, the chaos that comes into this because of last-minute changes in plans and those issues can make it more difficult."

He said if the Met "comes to the view that our existing tactics and control measures" aren't sufficient, then the force "will go to the Home Secretary, but not before that point".

Pro-Palestinian protest in London

Pro-Palestinian march ban would be last resort - Met

Thousands are due to attend a London march, planned for Armistice Day, calling for a Gaza ceasefire.

Count them

In the OP? About 6 too many.

How many is an acceptable amount to you?

ganondoof · 07/11/2023 22:16

FordAnglia · 07/11/2023 21:39

Perfectly true of course that Ford was antisemitic.
But it is offtopic.
See my post above about some folk being slagged off for some apparent derailing but seems OK from some.
Suggest you start another thread about antisemitism, including from some apparent heroes.
But this thread is about anti semitism in london on london marches.
Or not.

This is hardly the only thread about Anti-semitism that's been derailed. It's impossible to talk about on here. Even on the thread about anti-semitic graffiti in a school, it's "maybe whoever does it has a dead relative in Gaza" and "there's hate on both sides right now".

Have you looked up antisemite in the same dictionary?

Ecdysiast · 07/11/2023 22:55

@noblegiraffe I don't need to. I stated in a previous post that Arabs were Semites, and apparently that statement constitutes 'hate speech' on this thread and was deleted. Just wanted to clarify that you might want to report the offense to the Merriam-Webster dictionary as well.

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2023 22:58

You were definitely confused about what antisemitism meant. Why else were you wittering on about Semites on a thread about antisemitism?

Edited

So you only agree with the dictionary definition of words some of the time?

Ecdysiast · 07/11/2023 23:00

@ganondoof Sorry, what are you talking about?

Stomacharmeleon · 07/11/2023 23:02

@Trulywonderful I wonder how likely it is in London that have breakaway groups and the Tommy Robinson/ football firms/ national front come out in force...

Will leave the met rather impotent unless they are planning on bringing in extras.

Actually, I'm not confused at all. What confuses me is why a definition of 'semite' was reported to MN and deleted.
And why so many ppl on this thread find the fact that Arabs are Semites to be so offensive.

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2023 23:07

I doubt that’s why it was reported.

Why are you wittering on about Semites in a thread about antisemitism?

Ecdysiast · 07/11/2023 23:09

It's all there, @noblegiraffe . Context is everything.

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2023 23:13

It’s not, it was deleted.

Oh look, someone reported that one as well! Maybe they can explain what is so offensive about it.

The poster appears completely confused about what anti semitism is. Poster is as you say wittering on.

Not actually adding any relevance at all merely repeating themselves.

Ecdysiast · 07/11/2023 23:00

@ganondoof Sorry, what are you talking about?

The Miriam-Webster definition of Semite is okay to you, but not their definition of anti-Semite.

Ecdysiast · 07/11/2023 23:25

@ganondoof I know the definition of anti-Semite and assume others do to. Why would I need to post it?

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2023 23:26

So you know it’s specifically about Jews?

Why then, are you wittering on about semites?

Ecdysiast · 07/11/2023 23:34

@noblegiraffe
I actually wasn't 'wittering on about Semites'. I had made a reference to Semites in the context of another point, and someone questioned it so I provided a definition from Brittanica which was deleted. I just find it quite alarming that a dictionary definition of a word violates talk guidelines. Talk about censorship.

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2023 23:40

Funny, because I recall you trying to redefine antisemitism to cover Palestinians in order to try to derail a thread about antisemitism into criticism of Israel. Weird.

Goodness knows what will happen if these groups manage to get near each other. Fingers crossed the police can manage to keep any splinter groups apart

They seem to have trouble doing this at football matches when the more violent groups start on each other. So I don't hold a lot of hope even if more police are got in.

What people find offensive is not that Arabs speak a semitic language. Hence why you keep going on about them being Semities.

People are mostly just bemused that you seem to lack a basic understanding of what antisemitism is and the group it was invented by the nazis to refer too. Antisemitism was used by the nazis to refer to Jew hate. They didn't use it for any other group. Especially the Palestinians because they actually had their own troop in the German army, as well as fighting along side the Germans in the middle east.
