Have you seen this interview? It's remarkable and interesting to hear a different perspective to what happened on that day.

Israeli forces shot their own civilians, kibbutz survivor says

Palestinian fighters treated Israeli captives "humanely," recalls Yasmin Porat.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly declares that “there is no ceasefire without the return of all the captives.”

That has already been said though, several times.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/netanyahu-no-temporary-ceasefire-without-our-hostages-released-no-fuel-into-gaza/#:~:text=Netanyahu%3A%20No%20temporary%20ceasefire%20without,The%20Times%20of%20Israel

Yes I did think he had said this previously. Maybe they think he is going to cave under pressure from other countries. Else maybe they have been told negotiations for a ceasefire will mean not all the hostages are released. I really don't know.

However appreciate they plan to block the road until he agrees that their will never be a ceasefire unless all the hostages are released.

Trulywonderful · 03/11/2023 23:32

I have just read. He has said today again about the ceasefire not happening until the hostages are released. Presumably this was after the families blocked the road.

All a bit odd really but I suppose a lot is going on and being sathat we will never know

Toothyfruity · 04/11/2023 15:07

Apparently a deal was almost struck to release all the Israeli hostages held by Hamas which would have included the release of Palestian prisoners illegally held by Israel but Israel stalled.

I guess if the hostages are freed they lose their excuse for inflicting genocide on Gaza and this is a plan they've been hoping to unleash for some time by the looks of it.

Aren't the families of the hostages worried that the bombardment will kill their family members?

I think the families of most the hostages understand that Hamas broken every deal they ever made. The families know more about the conflict than most people too. Plus a lot will know what happened when the loved ones were taken thanks to Hamas filming the events and sending videos or themselves being there when it happened

I think we need to not criticise or question the response of hostages families too. They are entitled to their own feelings about what is happening.

Many of the families of the hostages have expressed concerns over the IDF tactics endangering their loved ones.
“TEL AVIV, Israel, Oct 28 (Reuters) - The families of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip have been racked with worry for their loved ones since the military stepped up ground assaults inside the Palestinian territory, a group lobbying for the families said on Saturday.
"This night was the most terrible of all nights ... against the backdrop of the major IDF (Israel Defense Forces) operation in the Strip," the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a statement.

It said that the hostages being held by Hamas were being subjected to the same heavy bombardment as Palestinian residents and that their families were racked with "anxiety, frustration" that Israel's long-awaited ground invasion will put them in more danger.”

While Hamas doesn’t always keep deals, there was a very successful prisoner exchange between them and Israel in the past, which is why some families supported the prisoner exchange proposal from Hamas. This one in 2011 had widespread support from the Israeli public- 79%

I posted the link on here yesterday. Many hostage families had made a blockade and were saying they refused to move until the Israeli PM declared he would not agree to a ceasefire.

Which we all found confusing be he had already said as much several times over the weeks. So maybe they had been told something that made them think he was backing down.

Shortly after they blocked a road leading to I can't remember where he came out and declared again there wouldn't be a ceasefire.

If you scroll back you can find my link. Else just Google.

Yes, many hostage families also think the no cease fire until the hostages are released is the correct path. I was adding on to what you posted to show there is a variety of views amongst the families of the hostages and to answer the question of trulywonderful who asked aren’t the families worried about the bombs/crossfire accidentally killing the hostages?

The families are not all unified behind one best path they think Israel should take to get the hostages home. They do all seem to think that the current Likud government should not stay in power/is doing a terrible job.

Trulywonderful · 04/11/2023 22:06

Yes like any other group of people Israelis will have various views on this. Plus of course some hostages and their families are not Israeli.

That is a very good point, I have read that Thailand is trying to secure release of Thai hostages through their own diplomatic back-channels. Confidence that Israel’s government will be able to secure the release of hostages is getting lower every day so I can’t really blame them or other governments of foreign hostages either.

Have you ever heard of Theresienstadt, also known as Terezin? It was a model camp set up by the Nazis, to prove to outsiders (including Red Cross inspectors) that the imprisoned Jews were being treated well. Inmates were even forced to write postcards to their friends and family outside of the camp, to assure them the Nazis were taking care of them. Many of the Terezin inmates were sent to the "family camp" at Auschwitz, designed to show to anyone who came to investigate, to prove that the inmates were being treated well.

So think about that, when you're sharing your links from ElectronicIntifada, and Mondoweiss.
