Hi Dolly,
Thought I'd share my story with you too, I had a daugter 5 years ago - a surprise she was not planned, then 3 years ago we decided to try for another, I had the mirena coil removed but no periods... after 9 months my GP referred me to a consultant at the local hospital, and after a scan, I was told I had PCOS, they tried me first with Clomid, but it didn't do anything, so then I had to wait a few months for an operation (laproscopy) to prick my ovaries as they put it. I had this treatment in May 09 but by September 09 had only had 1 period, so my consultant decided to give me those tablets you have had to induce a period, then re-start the clomid, I was scanned twice during my cycle and was told that I had produced a follicle!!! I actually fell pregnant the first month the treatment actually worked, and I am now on maternity leave awaiting my baby, who is due in 4 weeks time, keep going you will get there, I thought I never would be you do. xx

Dolly99 · 28/05/2010 11:50

Livvigirl! I got goosepimples then! Wow - great news! I am really pleased for you!

Did you notice that your period was heavier after the progesterone assistance? I stopped taking my last tablet on sunday, and come on early this morning, and I am in pain! Maybe as this is the first proper bleed since my operation?

I start clomid tomorroww! and whilst I am very excited I am very nervous and worried I will fail! Have this huge guilt feeling and although my husband is amazing and supportive, I cant help feel like this.

I had many proecdures whilst I was under with my operation, including the blue die test through my ovaries, and I am hoping this works for us!

Thinking of you Dolly and keeping everything crossed. But I'm certain your DH would agree that this is not your fault and you are not responsible. That is something I'm learning - it's all out of our hands. So try and relax and think positive. What will be will be.

I saw doc this week and he has referred me for a scan to confirm whether or not I have PCOS. Once that's done I'll be referred to a fertility clinic. He reminded me, though, that people still get pregnant anyway, so told me not to stop trying!

Good luck

Dolly99 · 31/05/2010 13:14

Miffles, thank you, and i m trying to be more positive, i have the best husband ever, and he is so supportive, and reminds me that no matter what we have each other.

I am on day 3 of clomid, and having a few side effects but only 2 more days to go, and then we can start trying loads!

keep me updated on how you get on with your scans xxx

Hey Dolly, how is everything going? Have you had many side effects, and when do you find out if your SWI was successful? Is it the same - waiting for AF?

I have my scan on Friday, so things are progressing. In the meantime, I have started taking lots of supplements - angus castus, B vitamins, and all sorts of others!! Also trying to relax and see if my body will sort itself out. Trying to loose some weight too, but that's not going quite so well!!

smokinaces · 06/06/2010 18:18

My DS1 is nearly 4 and he is a clomid baby. I have PCOS and my Prog. score was 2.3 so I wasnt ovulating at all. I was like this for 2 years.

I took clomid, ovulated (got a score of over 60!) and got pregnant that cycle.

And it obviously kick started something as he was only 10mo when my little accident of DS2 happened

Dolly99 · 07/06/2010 12:49

Miffles - I took my last tablet last wed, and I hav v bad headaches and a few twinges, But i understand that the head ache is duie to the tablets stimulating a part of your brain! crazy!

I have my 21 day blood test next fri - so we shall see what my levels are! We started doing the ovulation tests on sun and so far no happy face - but day 10 was today, so maybe in the next few days?!....

we are not having scans - not been advised to, but me and hubby have said if c,omid does nt work in the first few months we will request them...

I take lots of suppliments! angus is a must! multivitamens, zinc.... loads! my hubby is good with this, shall i get him to list all the ones I am on?

Smokinacres - wow thank you for this! exactly the same as me!!!!! I hope this happens to me! Thank you - any help you can give will be appreciated!

Sounds like you're doing well, Dolly. Must be a relief to be starting and doing something. Do try and relax as well, as it's not really in your hands.

Supplements: I'm taking angus castus (tinctus fluid stuff), multi-vit and mineral (which has zinc in it), B complex, magnesium and calcium, flaxseed oil capsules for omega 3/6/9 and co-enzyme q-10. Any other musts??!!

How encouraging smokinaces. I have heard it said that after having one baby it can be easier to have a second. Kind of like it resets the hormones and reduces the effect of PCOS. What a happy accident for DS2, though! There is 19 months between me and my sis, and it's a great age gap

Dolly99 · 07/06/2010 22:36

miffles hubby suggests folid acid, selenium. - and i take the others too - angus is really hyped up and everyone says to use these.

it has only been today I have decided to be calm and thought that what can i do? its out of my hands! hubby saod to me this morning that getting myself stressed is not helping.... just doing ovulation tests and not getting the smile face makes me sad...but hey today was only day 10 - so who knows what tomorrow holds...

its lovely talking to you ladies about this! helps keep me sane - thank you x

i had pcos and a blocked fallopian tube and was told i would need ivf, i fell for ds whilst using the withdrawl method, i wish you all the luck and hope in the world x

smokinaces · 07/06/2010 23:11

The best thing I was advised was to have sex from the day bleeding stops, and then every other day until CD21 (so from about CD 8-21 in my case) so there is plenty of sperm, (but not every day so its better quality!!) as OPKs can sometimes play silly buggers with clomid.

Also, try for morning sex - both my boys were conceived with it

Dolly99 · 08/06/2010 12:49

mrsdrowenhunt - thank you for this! always nice to hear positive stories. we need all the luck and hope in the world after our last year!

smokinaces - we have pretty much been doing this. I have had nothing on the ov sticks yet - and im day 11 today - so we shall see what happens... what has been most peoples days of ovulation?

mornig has been the way so far...

OP posts:
smokinaces · 08/06/2010 15:45

My ovulation day was CD13, friends ranged from CD11 to CD21.Good luck

Dolly99 · 09/06/2010 11:19

no positive on the test today...day 12... hopefully i will get a positive soon...but for now we are enjoying the fun side... i even took the morning off... i had a 'client meeting' - he he!

its good to hear the average range from cd13 to cd21... i was thinking maybe i had not ovulated or would not as its now past the time?

stegasaurus · 10/06/2010 12:52

It's good to read these positive stories. I have been to the hospital today for my first appointment after a year of TTC and having had just 6 periods since coming off the pill 14 months ago. Not surprisingly, he said I have PCOS and should start clomid, but will need to take provera first to start a cycle as I haven't had a period since Jan. He has also referred me for several blood tests on specific dates (that I somehow have to fit around work) and a scan.

Miffles · 10/06/2010 23:37

stegasaurus - its sounds like your journey is just starting. There are so many things that can be done and so much hope. It sounds like your doctor is fairly clued up on things, which is good. Let us know how it goes.
I am going for my scan tomorrow to confirm whether I have PCOS. Not sure if I want it or not....swings and roundabouts I think! I reckon having it, as that would mean we can go on to see a fertility specialist.
How are things goin Dolly - any action?

Dolly99 · 11/06/2010 10:01

stegasaurus - i had to take provera also! and have been doing ov tests since my last day of bleed.... day 14 today, and i have seen the surge show! yay! got a big fat on the test!!! so should ovulate in next 24-48 hours.... my hubby is very excited about our weekend ahead :P

Miffles - as above! things seem to be working! its been a hard month so far, mood swings gallore! but it will all be worth it! Let me know how scan goes, you normally get your rsults a week later! what are you unsure on? seeing a fertility specialist helps as they understand, have loads of stories and compared to doctors they know the answers!

baby dust to you all!

OP posts:
stegasaurus · 11/06/2010 11:50

Should I be doing ovulation tests too? Is this a stupid question? I never bothered before as I just assumed I wasn't (and didn't really want the heartache of having this confirmed on a test). I guess I should be otherwise I'll never know if I am or not. Can you buy the tests in chemists?

Thanks for the welcome to the thread.

DH and I are going the Lake District today for the weekend just to relax, then starting the Provera on Tuesday when we get back.

Dolly99 · 11/06/2010 15:33

stegasaurus - many people have diffenet views on these. I had never done them before, as like you was irregular and did not want the test confirming my concerns that i was not ovuating. Now I have taken the provera and the bleed induce worked, i then took the clomid days 2-6 (what are you doing?), then started the ovulation tests 3 days after the last clomid (this is because the clomid will still be in your system and can give you afalse reading). I started the tests last sat... and today got the smiley face to say the surge is happening! yay!!! so provera and clomid has done something at least! not a silly question at all, as i never thougt about it either. and our issue, as we are irregular, is that we do not know our normal cycle.... they say average is day 10... mine will be day 16. it all can get rather confusing, and i was getting rather confused with provera, clomid, best days to concieve, the blood tests etc! but am all okay on it now, so if you need help, please do shout!

i can log on here each day to talk, i found when on provera my mood was very low, i croed allot, had head ached, sore boobs and lower pain... then very similar with clomid...!

obv the day 21 blood test will tell you if you have ovulated, or at least what the chances are of you ovulating, but at least now me and hubby are sure that from now until monday we need to get busy! rather than saying from day after last bleed upto day 21 to be busy... which is fine, and good to do, and we prob will also to increase chances, but we know something has happened, we feel excited after seeing the smile on the test, and a positive mind helps positive things happen!

does this help?

Miffles · 11/06/2010 19:13

Dolly, that's great! What a relief to know the mood swings and drugs have done something. Of course, it doesn't mean that you'll definitely conceive (Sorry - don't mean to bring the mood down!) but reassuring to know that you're body is heading the right way.

I have read that miscarriages are more likely with PCOS. Do you know if this is still the case when you've conceived with clomid?

Also, if you need to do a second cycle of clomid, will you need provera again? or if you're not pg, do you naturally have another bleed? Actually, I think you would, cos you've ovulated, so that will induce a normal AF.

The side effects sound rotten - i'll need to make sure my DH knows that and doesn't just blame me and being moody!! It's taken a while for him to realise that my weight wasn't entirely my fault

Scan went fine - the full bladder was the worst thing! The lady doing it said my ovaries looked larger than average and had a characteristic halo/ring of follices around it. In her opinion it's PCOS, but of course I'll need to hear it from the doc. Need to arrange blood tests too, I think. Have you guys had blood tests done before clomid?

Miffles · 11/06/2010 19:15

(sorry - just re-read old posts, so know that blood tests are the norm )

Dolly99 · 12/06/2010 22:25

miffles - I know great news! so far! and no need to say sorry, totally agree, this is not a definate that i will get pregnant.., but i am just feeling very happy that after all the ups and downs with the drugs somehthing seems to be working.... yay! have blood tests on fri (day 21) and i will see how my levels are, hopefully high! as we have been busy, and tomorrow should be the day i ovulate... and we have nothing planned.... but staying in!

yeah, i told my dh to giggle at my mood swings, and point out that its the drugs, so i laughed too.... i cried at the silliest of things,,,, like not being able to open a jar!!! just keep reminding yourself why you are feeing like that! my head aches were terrible, but clomid is also a brain stimulant so thats why bad head aches occur.

oh yes, i remember the full bladder feeling, yuk!

yes as you say, blood tests are the norm, normally before the scan, but both need to be done... and dh will need to give a sample --- to make sure nothing is up with him...

stegasaurus - you ok?

OP posts:
Miffles · 13/06/2010 17:52

oooo.....DH giving a sample!!! I think he'll have issues with that!! He'd hate to think that his manhood was being undermind, but of course it's important to know we're barking up the right tree!! Did your DH make a fuss? It's only fair - we're the ones coping with everything else, they ought to have somekind of testing done!
