The first night i had a headache but thats it really. I feel on top of the world. Ive heard it can affect some women this way and im so glad it was me. I thought i was going to be hell on earth to live with but no, i am perfect wife and perfect mother .

Im now waiting to ov so we can start bding. Hooray.
Hope it goes as well for you loubie xxxxxxxxxx

Loubie37 · 01/09/2005 18:43

Hi, thanks for that stilltrying, I hope I'm as lucky as you! Good luck x

Roobedoo, I've not taken it yet! I've decided to take them in the evening so hopefully if I have and SEs they'll be during the night, not while I'm at work. Good luck for tomorrow - sounds promising to me - it's over 2 weeks since you had your jab isn't it? Fingers crossed for you x

Roobedoo · 01/09/2005 18:45

Think I've got AF pains, so feeling resigned to it now. Will be a kind of relief to get AF as know I'm not pg so want to get on with the next go.

katierocket · 01/09/2005 19:41

Hi
Loubie it didn't affect my cycle at all, I was just one day late but, I have to say that I had PMT multiplied by one million. It was awful. I started taking Clomid again yesterday and have had horrendous headache all day. I also feel very fat (not sure how much of that is Clomid and how much eating!) Good luck for you, I'm sure you'll be fine, keep us updated.

Roobedo, you never know I guess, do you have symptoms of AF? I'm really starting to think I need a break from this TTC, it's starting to get me down a lot. But I just can't bear watch precious months go buy and the gap between DS and next one get bigger and bigger.

Loubie37 · 02/09/2005 07:28

Well I toook my first 2 last night and so far so good, no side effects . Although I didn't sleep too good last night, I had weird dreams, but I don'tknow if that's a) coincidence or b) psychological or c) the Clomid.

Good luck for testing Roobedoo, you never know till the old witch arrives.

We're almost clomid buddies katierocket - you're one day ahead of me, good luck for this time x

Roobedoo · 02/09/2005 07:58

As suspected, AF reared her ugly head this morning. Going to wallow in it this weekend, but try and get positive again next week. Back on the big C tomorrow. Have good weekends all.

katierocket · 02/09/2005 08:22

Roobedo - sorry about AF , it's very hard isn't it. And nothing anyone can say can make it easier.

Glad to hear you've not had any effects yet Loubie, I feel fine today. Well let's hope it's our month this month, it has to be doesn't it?

Twiglett · 02/09/2005 08:30

Loubie

re your question about cycle lengths

I took clomid for luteal phase defect .. was ovulating on day 22 / 23 of cycle

the clomid did not affect when I ovulated, and I was surprised as I was expecting it to be 2 weeks from first pill .. but as I got pregnant that first month I think it affected the hormones after ovulating

HTH

Loubie37 · 02/09/2005 18:22

So sorry to hear about AF turning up Roobedoo, big hugs to you. It's strange how we're all within 4 days of each other though?

Thanks for the encouragement Twiglett, I hope I'm as lucky as you!

Still no real side effects, but I've not taken dose number 2 yet, I'm saving it till after tea....lovely.

Good luck everyone x

Roobedoo · 05/09/2005 15:39

Bit of a miserable weekend, but back on the clomid now and on day 3 of it today with no ill effects. HOWEVER, 'phoned hospital today to explain that going on hols on Friday so won't be able to go in for scan to check no. of follicles, and will be back too late for a scan as well. They've told me to stop taking the clomid as 'it's very important that we monitor you otherwise you could end up with sextuplets'. Now, I'm sure some of you ladies aren't being monitored and are on the same dosage as me (100mg per day for 5 days). I know multiples are increased by clomid, but their comments seem a bit excessive. Really don't want to stop taking C, but not sure what I should do.

MeerkatsUnite · 05/09/2005 16:10

Roobedoo,

I thought clomid was normally taken between days 2 and 6 in any event so am wondering why they are presumably telling you to stop taking it now (on day 3). I would have thought it would be okay to take this for a couple more days but I would clarify this point with the hospital dept first.

I would have to agree with their point re the monitoring - at least you are being monitored whilst on it. This is vitally important especially if polycystic ovaries or PCOS has been diagnosed. Clomid is powerful stuff and women who are not being monitored whilst on it ought to be period. There is no way of knowing whether it is working or otherwise if no monitoring is done. Checks should be made to see if a follicle is actually leaving the ovary.

Have you been diagnosed with a specific problem?. I only ask as this is often given to women with ovulation problems.

Loubie37 · 05/09/2005 17:23

That does sound a bit excessive Roobedoo, especially as like you say a lot of women (me included) aren't monitored by scans, I'm just having 21 day blood tests and some don't even get that.

It's my last day on Clomid - I take my last 2 pills tonight after tea, and I've got to say I feel lousy today

My head hurts, nothing will shift it and the hot flushes keep coming in waves every few minutes. My appetite has disappeared totally, and I feel sick and dizzy

I'm just hoping it will soon wear off after tomorrow, please someone tell me it will?!

Roobedoo · 05/09/2005 20:52

Meerkats, yes have mild pcos. Had clomid last month and made 3 nice big follicles which were then released by an injection of FSH or LH or something (I really should know!) If I don't take any more clomid I wonder whether 3 days' worth will have any effect. Have to wait and see I guess. So frustrating though.

Loubie37 - hope you feel better soon, hopefully it will all be worth it when the morning sickness kicks in!

Oops

Loubie37 · 06/09/2005 13:50

Hi, feeling lots better today so far (touch wood). I thought I might feel worse than ever as I still had another dose to take last night when I wrote about how bad I was feeling, but I'm heaps better today. Still not 100% but at least it's having some effect on me, let's hope it's all the right ones!

The next 'milestone' for me is to see whether my CM has been affected as I normally start getting EWCM around day 9-11. I'm drinking grapefruit juice and will start on the Robitussin today (well, Wilko's very cheap alternative!) so hopefully there'll be no probs in that department

The OH is away until Friday which ie excellent timing, I'll be on CD 10 by then, so it will be prime time for starting jiggy jiggy

Did you decide what you're going to do Roobedoo? I would say the 3 doses you took will still have some effect as you still took more overall than someone on 50mg for 5 days IYSWIM?

Good luck everyone x

ebbie22 · 06/09/2005 13:59

Hi,sorry to hear about all the a.f,so heartbreaking isnt it,just wantedto know, are your other halfs taking zinc?

Prettybird · 06/09/2005 14:25

Loubie - I've just finished my 4th (and last until see the conultant again in November) cycle of Clomid, which I am taking to imporve the quality of egg.

It did change my cycle: usually I have a 24-26 day cycle. Month one it was 28 days. Month 2 it was 33 days, Month 3 was 27 days (which at least didn't get my hopes up).

This next week dh and I will have to do plenty of BDing - to make the most of this final batch of Clomid.

I'm 44, so time is running out!

Loubie37 · 06/09/2005 15:38

Hi PrettyBird, I'm 37 so I kind of know where you're coming from....I feel too old to be starting all over again sometimes! My mum was a grandma by the time she was my age!!

Good luck, I hope you get a BFP soon - around the same time as me homefully

LunarSea · 07/09/2005 11:08

Well been to see consultant again this morning for a scan. The good news is that even without the clomid (this is last cycle without) he could see a follicle developing, so it at least confirms that I am OVing naturally. One ovary is apparently a lot smaller than the other though, but he didn't seem to worried about it. I think I'll still do some research into the implications though...

The other bad(ish) news is that although it's only CD6 the follicle development and endometrium looked more like he'd expect on day 10-12. Which is consistent with the very short cycles I've been getting. Because of that he's not confident that the clomid on its own is going to work, so he thinks I might need progesterone post ovulation too. Am going to try just the clomid next month, with tracking scans and more blood tests, to see what effect it has, and depending upon the outcome of that, possibly change it again after that.

Good luck all - lets hope it does the trick for all of us.

MeerkatsUnite · 07/09/2005 11:59

Lunarsea,

A normal sized ovary is about the size of a walnut. Polycystic ovaries tend to be larger than normal sized because of the cystic follicles on the ovary. Some of these follicles contain eggs, some are dormant and yet others contain hormones. I hope that you continue to be monitored; the "ideal" size for a follicle is around 20mm.

Progesterone tends to be given in the form of pessaries.

Do you have an actual diagnosis?.

LunarSea · 07/09/2005 12:26

Meerkats - the left one is apparently normal sized, and the right one smaller, so probably not PCOS, although I had wondered about that as I do have some of the other symptoms. Also wondered about endo as my mother has it, and it can apparently be genetic, and implicated in the short cycles - but consultant didn't seem to be thinking along those lines.

Don't have a definate diagnosis yet, as am waiting for results of blood tests etc - may find out more when next see the consultant.

I'm just glad at the moment that something's finally happening, after only having one ds to show for 9 years of trying and being told by old GP that once you have one natural conception - never mind how long it took or what the outcome was - you could never have a referral. Although we ended up paying to see this consultant, he as good as said that the GP was wrong since after the initial consultation he told us that he could refer us to himself as NHS patients!

ebbie22 · 07/09/2005 16:24

Are any of your husbands/partners taking zinc?

Roobedoo · 07/09/2005 19:18

Yes, got DH on zinc and a multivitamin. Lunarsea - so glad you are getting treatment now. Hope all goes well. We're off on hols on Friday so hoping there will be another future family member coming back with us. Good luck all, will catch up when we're back.

ionaming · 07/09/2005 20:19

Lunarsea, so pleased you are finally getting somewhere. We seem to be in the same boat. I also have short cycles & short luteal phase (8 days) & suspect I therefore have a prog deficiency. The 1st nightmare doc I saw was like yours - you've conceived once so you'll do it again, took no notice of the change in my cycles since dd (4 yrs ago). Second doctor has started tests......but they messed up my 21 day prog & day 3 test (they got them round the wrong way), so have now got to have 21 day prog test repeated & waste yet another month . Seeing doc again tomorrow so may get the result of my day 3 test. Am hoping that once all my tests are in the doctor can prescribe clomid or prog supplements (assuming prog deficiency is the problem) & doesn't have to refer me on to a consultant....... I've heard the wait for a referral can be months. Anyway, looking forward to hearing some more positive news from you & fingers crossed your BFP is just around the corner!
