I thought I'd start a thread for all of us who worship at the shrine of Toni Weschler, spend whole seconds analysing cervical mucus, slip over in the shower checking cervical position and spend two minutes every morning flicking their heads from side to side in a valiant attempt to stop a baby pulling the thermometer out of their mouths. Ladies, this thread is for all of us, may it see many many BFPs!

Evening primrose oil - I read (on here) that taking it from CD1 to ovulation can help regulate cycles. Mine have been anything from 17 (anovulatory) to 42 over the last year.

I have been temping since January and have had an anovulatory 17 day cycle, then ovulated on CD10; CD20; CD15 and CD15.

Danilou22 · 26/05/2010 22:06

Hello all.

Well it would seem my period is well and truly on the way as I have very light bleeding tonight.

I just have a quick question as I am new to this charting malarky!

If Fertility Friend dectects ovulation does that mean it is probable that you did ovulate? Do they ever not detect ovulation?

Says this month that I ovulated on day 20 and today is CD37. Can you still get pregnant ovulating so late and having such a long cycle?

Any advise would be great.
Thanks

BabyValentine · 27/05/2010 13:26

Hi Danilou,

You could ovulate on CD100 and still get pregnant - where there's an egg there's a hope!

As I understand it several factors (incl. stress) can affect when you ovulate; I have ovulated on CD10 one cycle, then CD20 the following cycle. But, the luteal phase i.e. ovulation to period, is generally the same for every cycle. Anything from 10-16 days is considered normal, but despite when you ovulate, your LP should remain pretty constant.

That said, several factors can affect the length of your LP - mine has varied between 14 and 17 days over the last 3 cycles (see previous posts - may be due to EPO). And if your LP is on the short side, it can be lengthened by taking Vitamin B6, but the other ladies will know more about that than I do

So, enough waffling - to answer your questions:

  1. Not sure about FF - only been using it for a couple of months. What has made you doubt your ovulation day - just the fact that it is late? If your cycles are often long, it may be that ovulation on CD20 is perfectly normal for you.
  1. Yes, absolutely, you can still get pregnant.
Danilou22 · 27/05/2010 18:18

Thanks for the reply.

The reason I have doubted is because I was diagnosed with PCOS when I came off of the pill and also because I never have very much EWCM. I had to really[embarrassed]rummage for it this month! I will see what happens this month. Things do seem to be getting better. It took me 5 months to get my first period after coming off of the pill then my cycle was 39 days last month and 37 days this month. I am hoping it is going to regulate itself as I have heard it can take a year for your body to get back to normal after coming off of the pill.

Fingers crossed and who knows!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 27/05/2010 18:36

I need your advice ladies, which may sound a bit daft:
When taking your temp, where exactley in your mouth do you stick your thermometer? ie, just under your tongue, pressed against your tongue?

I am pretty sure I'm messing up my stats as they seem to be very erratic and this morning my temp was apparently 32.60c which is rediculous. Obviously I havent had it in my gob properly.

The annoying thing is, is that I never check the reading that instant (normally because I havent switched the light on yet and try not to disturb DH), but the thermomester saves the last reading, so I log it when I get home from work.

What makes it worse is that I'm on CD14, so the next few days readings are crucial!

BabyValentine · 27/05/2010 20:13

I usually put mine under my tongue right at the back. Sure it wasn't 36.20?

hippychick66 · 27/05/2010 20:15

ifatfirst I did laugh at your wording - Obviously I havent had it in my gob properly.

I stick mine under my tongue facing forward IYSWIM (not sticking out of a side). I tend to clamp it down with my tongue. So much so that i get that pain under my tongue and start counting down and hoping for the beep beep beep beep.

I don't think any of this is an exact science.

Good luck with getting it 'in your gob' .

Danilou22 · 27/05/2010 20:23

I stick mine in at the side under my tongue pointing towards the middle then close my mouth and usually fall back to sleep before I hear the beep beep beep.

LittleSilver · 27/05/2010 20:26

Ifatfirst, I stick mine in facing out, like hippie, then squint madly at the readout as it tots up. If I want my temps to stay low I keep it still, if I'm desparate for them to go triphasic up a little more, I shift it around swiftly to try and find a hotter spot.

HTH

Thanks all!
I was concious that there was some sort of trick to it!

Some mornings I wake up with a stuffed up nose so it's difficult to breathe with a thermometer shoved under your tongue, so often have breathe through the side of my mouth (attractive! visions of popeye spring to mind)and have wondered if that jet of cold air would affect it.

I reckon I'm thinking about this waaaaay too much!

BabyValentine · 27/05/2010 20:58

me too, Danilou!

LittleSilver · 28/05/2010 19:02

Hmm, well, after oving on CD19 fairly consistently since Feb, this month my body decided to be a bit eccentric and I officially (according to FF and TCOYF) have ov'd on CD12! Incidentally, anyone who uses TCOYF, when do you get an egg and why am I getting an halo-type thing around my date

Thank you everyone who advised towards SWIing on CD11 due to ewcm, because this was swiftly followed by SHOW cervix and +OPKs. So now on the 2ww and will be very interested in seeing what my lp is like this month, as has been around 10-11, and would be nice to bump it up a bit.

Hippie, are you testing tomorrow am? And will you tell us? Good luck!

OP posts:
hippychick66 · 28/05/2010 19:44

Yay. Speaking as someone who I think said you should SWI on day 11 - well done.

You might end up having quite a short cycle but try not to panic. When i ov'd on day 11 i ended up with a 21 day cycle which seemed very short but i guess it had a 10 day lp like all my others so not too bad.

I am gonna test tomorrow yes. Of course I will let you know. I feel very excited and quite positive - can't explain why - just cos boobs feel so huge and felt a bit sick this morning. Also haven't had a cycle this long since last summer apart from the one where I got preg in december. (but I did ov later this month - day 14).

But I'm trying not to get too positive just incase I get a crashing disappointment.

If I get a positive tomorrow silver you need to get yourself a pair of hoop earrings and a headscarf and set up a tent somewhere.

LittleSilver · 29/05/2010 08:22

hippie, does it look incredibly stalker-ish if I ask you how you got on?

BabyValentine · 29/05/2010 13:05

Hope you're too excited to come online, Hippy!

hippychick66 · 29/05/2010 13:33

Sorry to keep you waiting ladies. DH had the laptop (yes we only have the 1 - how archaic) and was doing something really important - NOT.

Anyway I am please to announce that HIPPY IS PREGNANT!

OMG - wrap me in bubble wrap, stick me in a deep freeze and wake me up in 8 weeks for a scan!

justshaggy · 29/05/2010 14:01

Oh, that made me smile .... WONDERFUL news hippy! So happy for you. x

hippychick66 · 29/05/2010 14:37

Thanks shaggy.

It's all quite subdued here cos I don't want the boys (7 & 10) to guess. They were so upset when we lost our little one in feb and I vowed not to tell them til after the 12 week scan if I ever got pregnant again.

Which I am - whoop whoop - kinda can't believe it. Please god this old bird had a good egg in her!!!

spilttheteaagain · 29/05/2010 17:56

hippychick66 · 29/05/2010 19:48

Thanks all for your congrats. Can't believe that on the first May Bank Hol I was crying (yes even at my age) cos I had a very short cycle (21 days) and i decided to put a time limit on ttc etc. And here we are at the other May Bank Hol and I'm preg. How amazing is that.

I will of course keep popping in to help you all with your in-depth questions about charting etc (and to stop your thermometers from falling out of your gobs ). Also to keep you up-dated - God I hope it's all good news from here.

Yes, silver look into your chrystal ball - who's next - no pressure then!
