Shiney new thread before we drop off the end of the last one!

I know how you feel AC about taking the pill and feeling like you're making yourself infertile - it feels a bit like an anti-advent calendar to me, every day you open another window and delay the arrival of Baby Jesus! Have made an agreement with my DP that when my current stock runs out in September we will have a discussion about whether I get any more, rather than just assuming I will take them ad infinitum. I'd quite like to see where my body's at without all the artificial hormones.

It's funny isn't it that we're all waiting to TTC for different reasons; money, careers, debts, house moves, health, waiting for DPs to make their bloody minds up and stop prevaricating feel ready...Any more to add to the list?

My DP had his first conversation with his male friends about it recently - apparently men don't tend to chat about this sort of thing? So I guess progress is happening!

soppysue · 02/06/2010 20:08

Hi All,
Please could I join you? ..I have been lurking here for a while now..not knowing whether I was qualified to join you or not!!!
as DH and I have decided that we will TTC#2 however we have decided to wait at least a year or so first, this is due to a number of reasons , the main two being needing to save a bit of money up to have something behind us and also the fact that i am a chief bridesmaid at my sisters wedding next year and have been loosing weight (1.5 stone so far) as i really want to be a slim bridesmaid!!
Our DD is 5 and she was a difficult baby, she never slept, had probs with bowel movemnets etc, etc ...had she been easier as a baby I feel we may have already had a second by now!!!

Anyhow, here we are, and I was just reading AC'S AND QUODLIBET's comments about taking the pill, I too am still taking my pill at present but like you AC will be thinking about coming off it in a few months to try get my body back to some normality before starting TTC.
I will look forward to chatting with you all, sorry for the long post

hairytriangle · 02/06/2010 22:23

Amandacooper have just read back through some of your posts.

May I offer some suggestions (without being patronising - feel free to tell me to feck off!)

Could you think about another form of contraception that isn't hormonal, like the cap or diaphragm or something like that? That way you would be preparing your body well prior to the time you want to conceive.

I think you're doing SO well to pay back your debts! I'm impressed!

hairytriangle · 02/06/2010 22:24

Welcome Soppysue

AmandaCooper · 03/06/2010 19:02

Welcome SoppySue! It sounds like we have some reasons in common! My sister's wedding is next weekend though! I remember about nine months ago I was thinking that we'd reached the cut off date for slotting a baby in before my bridesmaid's duties. Not that sis would have minded a bit if I'd been waddling around 9 months pg!

Hairy I don't mind at all - all thoughts welcome! I don't know is the answer. I'm toying with the idea of stopping after this pack but I think DH will freak out! Also the grass is always greener on the other side isn't it? Once I was off the pill I'd probably find actively preventing each time so frustrating!

Still, you're not the first person to suggest it and I suppose there's not that much waiting time left really. Took the last one in the pack yesterday, so I've got a week to think about it! It would be a shame if I got to December and my cycles hadn't settled down yet.

soppysue · 03/06/2010 20:39

Thanks for the welcome AmandaCooper and hairytriangle.. it feels good to have somewhere to talk to others in the same boat as me!!
AC, Oooooh how exciting about your sisters wedding next weekend, I hope you have a fab time and that your sister has a lovely day.
I dont suppose my sister would mind if I was 9 months pregnant waddling down the aisle either..its just I have always been on the slightly large side and I am just beginning to loose my weight ..for me... so I really want to do the whole 'slim bridesmaid' thing b4 we start TTC. Altough I will prob have it all to loose again after baby is born...but it will all be worth it .

PipocaThePedantic · 03/06/2010 20:57

Welcome SoppySue! Are you going to get to wear a nice bridesmaid's dress? And what is your bridesmaid's dress like AC? Hope you have a lovely day, I luuurve weddings! Here in Spain it's ALWAYS a free bar, so you get wasted for free too. Not so much once you've got DC though.
Hmm see what you mean AC about it might be even more frustrating off the pill, do you think it might be too tempting to get carried away and take a chance? The advantage of coming off the pill would be to be able to track your cycles, but then I suppose you could do that after the summer anyway. As I understand it your body is immediately fertile once you stop the pill, so you'd have to choose something that suited you well, if you didn't want any accidents. I was on the pill for years and then got fed up with hormonal contraception and we used condoms for years and never had any accidents.
I'm down to 2 more cycles now, going to have my period in June (due on next week) and then wait til after my period in July and hopefully get pregnant anytime after that. I suppose I should get some folic acid?

AmandaCooper · 04/06/2010 07:22

Oh hell we went out to dinner last night - me knackered after a full day at the firm's annual seminar - and DH told me he has pretty much handed his notice in at work. Apparently he's been feeling "unfulfilled".

I suppose if he was ever going to do this, it's better that it's now, rather than down the line when we have a mortgage and DC - but it's not exactly the best news I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure he'll find another job, but still, I could do without the stress of it all. Moving house tomorrow as well - possibly in with DMIL as we still haven't heard from the bloody letting agent!

Pipoca it's a long ruby coloured maxi dress stlye in chiffon. It's really lovely. Can't believe it's next weekend, proving that things do come round eventually if you wait long enough.

bebejones · 04/06/2010 08:19

Sorry have been a bit AWOL, been so busy!

Welcome to Soppysue!

Feeling very on edge today as they have decided to deliver SILs baby by C Section about 5 weeks early. No one knows what is going to happen & it's all very tense and emotional.

Had a good meeting with my specialist nurse this week who gave me some positive news about breastfeeding reducing symptoms!

AC - oh dear about DH! Still like you said, better now than further fown the line. No advice on contraception coz we only use condoms as the pill is one of the reasons I piled on so much weight so I decided to stop taking it a few years ago! Hope you sort out the new flat asap! Very exciting for your sis wedding. Hope you have a lovely day!

Pipoca - how exciting that you have only 2 cycles left!! Make sure you keep us updated on your 'progress'!

AmandaCooper · 04/06/2010 09:10

Hi Bebe. So when is she having it? Were they able to say anything else about it's development or give a prognosis? What a dreadful time. No wonder you've been busy!

Good news about breastfeeding reducing the symptoms! Great to have another good reason to TTC at the end of this course of meds.

Re contraception I think condoms probably are the way to go - that way I can put DH in charge of contraception when if he starts dragging his feet!

When he told me he'd quit his job, I replied that I had quit the pill(!) so I suppose I may as well go ahead and do it!

bebejones · 04/06/2010 10:02

AC - she is scheduled for C-section at 10am, so now! But that's assuming no emergencies. They have no idea about development. LO will be whisked straight off to SCBU with specialist in tow & her DH will have to go with the baby to make any decisions about treatment. Just hoping that it is al going to be ok & we will have a lovely new addition to the family with a happy outcome by the end of the day! At least you have made a decision about the contraception. Might help make things seem like they are 'happening' IYKWIM. I will feel like things are finally ahppening when I stop my meds at the end of Sept! Can't wait!!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 04/06/2010 10:37

Oh gosh. I'll be thinking of you - let us know asap how they are doing.

bebejones · 04/06/2010 13:53

SIL had a baby boy, he cried when he was lifted out which is a good sign. He is very tiny so in intensive care we won't know any more for a few hours.

Really makes you think how precious life is

OP posts:
PipocaThePedantic · 04/06/2010 14:37

Hope all is OK with the baby bebjones.

xx

bebejones · 05/06/2010 10:10

Thanks guys! Baby is doing ok, he was actually a good weight for a premmie (nearly 6lbs) they think he was about 6 weeks early not 4weeks early. Off the respirator this morning & feeding, so all good signs.

DH was making very positive noises about TTC last night. Was jab night & he said 'just think of it as one step closer to stopping', think everything with his sister has made him realise how much he'd like another baby! Have worked out I have just 16 injections left! So 16 weeks til I can stop & prepare myself for being PG!

OP posts:
hairytriangle · 05/06/2010 11:36

Hope all well with your SIL baby, bebe

Wave to all of you just popping in to say Hi!

AmandaCooper · 05/06/2010 15:30

Good news Bebe. No time to chat I'm afraid cause the house move is in full swing! The new place is lovely. With all the furniture gone the old place is FILTHY!!!

Quodlibet · 05/06/2010 15:42

Glad to hear it's good signs with the baby, bebe. Sending you all good thoughts! It must have been a really traumatic day for you all yesterday.

AC hope the move goes smoothly - how exiting! That hidden filth thing is horrifying isn't it?! Your DH's job announcement on top of moving stress must have seemed like a bit much all at once? Maybe he's trying to get all his ducks in a row and major changes out the way before you TTC? Hope it all calms down for you - keep us posted.

PipocaThePedantic · 05/06/2010 15:59

Sounds like a good weight bebe DS was exactly 4 weeks early and only weighed 4lb 12!
I sooo know what you mean AC about the filth. i was so ashamed when we moved, we looked like we'd been living in filth when all the furniture had gone!

feeling brooooooooooooody today. Honestly, I think I need sectioning sometimes, I'm so up and down about ttc. Sometimes I really want to crack on with it (so to speak) and others the idea of it terrifies me.

Must go, working on a translation all about middle eastern geopolitics...must. turn. off. MN.

soppysue · 05/06/2010 19:00

Hi everyone, ...Hope everyone is well today, and enjoying the suuuunnnsssshhhiiineeeee .
BEBE... I am glad to hear that the baby is doing ok, fingers crossed he will continue to do so.
I want to stop taking my pill soon, do I need to finish the packet (only 3 days left anyway) ? I have no idea!!! ...Even though it is going to be at LEAST a year b4 we TTC I want to give my body time to get itself straight and I have been on the pill for 14 years ... I think condoms are the way forward for us for the next year or so..
Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday evening ...

bebejones · 05/06/2010 19:06

Baby is alot better than all the 'experts' had thought. So just hoping that he continues to go from strength to strength!

Pipoca - Wow that is tiny! My DD was 9 days late and 6lb 13, I am thankful every day that she didn't turn up early like the MW had been telling me from 30 weeks!

I am feeling mega broody today too, doesn't help that DD has been so cute & cuddly all day!

SSue- I would say finish the pack, seeing as it's only 3 days, then just not start a new one if you want to stop.

AC - hope the move is going ok, know what you mean about filth, it's quite surprising how it builds up!!

OP posts:
soppysue · 06/06/2010 09:45

that is good news about the baby BEBE..

It would make sense to finish my pack of pills first b4 stopping, it is only 2 days now anyway...it's just me being my impatient self ..as usual!! I am going to drive myself potty I think in the next 12 months or so whilst waiting GRRRRR!!!!

Anyone else having dreams about pregnncy? ..Last night it was me doing POAS with a clearblue digital thinggy...it said BFP 2-3 WEEKS!!! ..LOL The night before it was all of my friends announcing thier BFP's ...
I am going to drive myself insane at this rate.

Ah well, have a lovely Sunday everyone.

PipocaThePedantic · 06/06/2010 10:08

I know what you mean Soppysue I am suddenly feeling uncontrollably broody!
I can see the temptation to jack the pills in immediately but I think you might as well finish the pack. How long are you going to use other methods before you ttc?

Broodiness is doing my head in today. I feel like shouting I want a babeeeeee! from the rooftops . Then I think about the practicalities and my blood runs cold a little.

Amanda hope you're really enjoying your new flat! When 's your sister's wedding , is it next week?

Hope your nephew goes from strength to strength bebe

Still working on the middle eastern translation, so had better go. Have a lovely Sunday everyone.
x

hairytriangle · 06/06/2010 11:22

Just wondering what the heck I will do about TTC if my bleading carries on like this? 18 days so far, am hoping it stops sometime in the next three months

Quodlibet · 06/06/2010 11:26

Oh blimey hairy, it must really be wearing you down. I hope you're taking really good care of yourself.
