The Palace is open and the anti-freeze is flowing - Blue Bols 50p a shot! Two for one on Archers and orange, for the classy BESHies (the ones who keep their hats on whilst undergoing an internal examination).

We have Vampire Bill and Brian Cox in the Dungeon, and David Mitchell and Brian Eno tending the bar....

Me and TYF live in a small 2-bed first floor rented apartment (not a flat, dahlinks ). Think it'll be fine for a baybee - apart from Wimpy McWimpersons here probably not being able to get a pram up and down stairs (can't carry my bike up ). Seeing as TYF has 15 (not including tiny ones) musical instruments in the spare room, incl. a trombone and a banjo, and there's his desktop and my crafting table (for crafting, read 'where I pile crap I can't be arsed to throw away or sort out'), it'll be cot next to bed stuff for us (daren't mention co-sleeping in case MN strangers swoop down screeching at our fred). Would try and rent bigger place when El Sprog was able to move about freely, cos we can't move about without bumping into things. Doesn't help that TYF was promised a big pay rise 18 months ago which never happened due to recession (but he still has to do the increased rate of work that went with it ). As for me, I seem to have an aura only visible to employers that screams 'unemployable'. Have only ever had 1 job where a friend didn't give me the nod or employ me directly Is why I get Bossfriend taking her relationship stress out on me at work Is weird, cos am a cronesome 37, but have income and home much more commensurate with being skint 20-something - so like TYF, then. Feels embarrassing at times.

When will the farkin Dr ring? How can other people's problems compare to my need to know my results? Thoughtless ill people. Can't go to pick up my mystery package from PO till she's rung. (Big and smooch to a certain lovely BESH)

laurielou · 16/02/2010 11:57

Gawd knows muse I think it may be something to do with me being able to trip over my own feet & have done myself a mischief falling downstairs. Also 1 bedroom is on a different floor (Heaven Forbid). Its not like its 4 miles away in the west wing of the house .

Love my mum but she does like to add problems where there are none.

Personally the boyf & I thought the house was perfect as its only a short walk to my parents / babysitters .

Ocarina · 16/02/2010 12:06

My sister once (briefly) lived in a 3 storey townhouse and I remember thinking that as it was presumably designed to be a family home it was very weirdly set out - one bedroom was on the ground floor and had the only access to the garden through it, with the other 2 bedrooms on the top floor. Couldn't see that being ideal with little kids, although being able to stick teenagers two floors away from everyone else seemed like a definite possibility.

But that was the weird set up of that house, rather than town houses in general. Laurie would your mum have you in a bungalow so no stairs to fall down at all?! Sounds like the sort of daft things my m-i-l would come out with.

Muser · 16/02/2010 12:09

Am I a Bad Person for thinking having a bedroom on a different floor would be brilliant? Peace and quiet!

Ocarina · 16/02/2010 12:18

Next floor no problem, two floors away seemed a long way to have to trek to get to a screaming child in the middle of the night. But that's probably just cos I'm lazy!

Muser · 16/02/2010 12:27

I was thinking for when they're slightly older and therefore less likely to wake up screaming regularly.

CurlyCasper · 16/02/2010 12:36

we nearly bought a three-bed town house last summer. two on the middle floor, master suite on the top. I quite liked the idea of mummy and daddy being able to hide from the rest of the house .

The alternative next door had two beds on the middle floor (one was more of a living room though) and two on the top. But one at the top had an ensuite and the other didn't. so whoever was in there would have to go downstairs for a pee in the middle of the night - I did not like that idea one bit. The thought of a four year old either have to risk the stairs in a sleepy haze or constantly come in to our bedroom - no thanks!

In the end, we decided we would go for something a bit older with more garden. That was back when we thought we had choice and the property world was our oyster - when we didn't realise we'd be sitting here months later still trying to sell our place and no longer checking out potential dream homes...

Anyway, a three storey town house is fine for raising kids - all those hallways to run around! And so much distance between you all when you want it - bliss

scorps hope you eventually make it to the PO. I hate having to pick up parcels (that's why I always make SFF do it)

Muser · 16/02/2010 12:42

Any news yet Scorps?

Scorpette · 16/02/2010 13:14

Pffffftthhhhh, is there fuck. Rang the surgery a bit ago to ask why she hadn't rung when was promised a call before 12.30. Now it will be 'almost certainly' by 1.30. Because I've got nothing better to do. Actually, I haven't - apart from getting package, will be mainly laid on sofa moaning over period pains - but that's not the point. Cowbag.

Muser · 16/02/2010 13:18

Bah. That sucks the big one.

Much consternation here as I thought I saw a spot of blood when I went to the loo. No further evidence of blood. Am clearly becoming a lunatic with the waiting.

Ocarina · 16/02/2010 13:51

Gah to the waiting for both of you. Hope they phone NOW Scorps, and hope the blood stays well away Muser.

Sticking older kids miles away definitely sounds like a good idea. Not convinced by the having to traipse through a teenager's bedroom to hang the washing out though (or them having to traipse through mine to get out to play if you set it up that way). Twas all just a bit odd, but then so was the woman who owned it so that's probably coloured my view too - my sister bought a place of her own as soon as she could to escape!

Muser · 16/02/2010 13:56

That house's set up does sound odd Ocarina. I don't really understand why the room with garden access wasn't made into a sitting room, with a bedroom somewhere else.

Scorpette · 16/02/2010 14:14

Just got off phone. Wow. Was good results - feel a bit bad sharing as many here are having a hard time of it.

But this is what she said: everything was v. good. In fact, better than good - "exceptionally good". Said that if she didn't know my age she would've thought I was under 30 from the hormone results alone. Even my adrenal levels were almost average (as I never fail to bore on, have health ishoos due to poor adrenal function). She couldn't answer my questions about why I never have more than 9 days of any luteal phase before I start spotting, but says that I might have an 'over efficient system' (not entirely sure that's a proper medical term). If TYF's spunky results come back fine, she will send me to a specialist to discuss luteal matters properly. Might also need laparoscopy to check for endometriosis, as have history of insanely bad cramping and also IBS. Hmmm, that's only taken me 20 years to get done - have been hassling them to check for it since my teens TYF is delighted but also worried he might be the prob, but I doubt it. But am feeling a lot better now, as it seems it might just be bad luck/timing so far and nothing else. And my package was my pre-natal supplement from Higher Nature, so it's all systems go. I've never felt this cheerful when suffering cramps before!

CurlyCasper · 16/02/2010 14:17

Great news scorps, both on your levels and the fact they are taking you seriously. well pleased for you.

Muser · 16/02/2010 14:18

Fantastic news Scorps, really glad you're being taken seriously. Fingers crossed for TYF's results.

Ocarina · 16/02/2010 14:27

Scorps that's brilliant on both results and helpful medic - worth waiting for! How long will you have to wait for TYF's results?

Muser I think it was classic new build trying to fit too many houses into too small a space so having to do weird things with layout to make them seem better than they actually were. I wouldn't've bought it, but then it was in the wrong country.

laurielou · 16/02/2010 14:31

Hey scorps that's great news. Don't feel bad about sharing it, we're all here for news good, bad & meh. Am sure your fella will be fine too. Even if his results do come back a bit dodgy (like my boyf) at least you know what you're dealing with & can go from there.

Think I've sounded a tad pretentious re my house. Ladeez, please keep in mind I don't live in expensive London town, am in South Wales, houses much cheaper, 'specially 12 years ago when we first bought......

Anyhoo..........am feeling odd. Something seems to have clicked in my brain & I'm more determined than ever to get updiffed. Think its the thought of our appointment at Assisted Reproduction Unit (loving the catchy title) next month. Consultant mentioned next stage Clomid. Am v v v scared at the idea of "multiple birth" (which consultant also mentioned). That would put a spanner in my town house set up!! I've convinced myself this could be a high possibility after grandparents casually mentioned twins on both sides of family at Christmas time (I distinctly remember that through my Baileys haze). Also I iz ovulating anyway, the boyf has slightly lazy sperm. So consultant wants to make me Super Fertile (again, consultants words). Do I need to wear my pants on top of my tights to have such a title?

Eadwacer · 16/02/2010 14:32

Whoop w00t Whoop etc. for Scroptious. Nice to hear merry news.

laurielou · 16/02/2010 14:35

Oh, anyone planning to watch "One Born Every Minute" tonight? I iz feeling brave & planning to watch. Whilst eating chocolate. Am giving it up from tomorrow for lent. Bah. Have already consumed a Crunchie. Was muchos tastos.

And pancakes later..

Muser · 16/02/2010 14:36

laurie: identical or non identical twins in the family? I believe that only the identical kind are genetic, so if it's non-identicals you're ok.

Scorpette · 16/02/2010 14:37

Daft bugger is doing the deed tomorrow - he's been putting it off for nearly 2 weeks. I keep reiterating to him: smears, blood tests, colposcopy, possible fertility meddling, pregnancy, giving birth and general indignity and pain Vs having a wank = quit your bitching. Hopefully results by this time next week. Then Colposcopy 10.30 next Tues.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 16/02/2010 14:37

Hooray Scorps! Confirmed normality - now there's a rarity in these parts!

RunLyraRun · 16/02/2010 14:37

Scorps, that's great great news, get you with your youthful ovaries

Laurie, AFAIR, chance of multiple births with Clomid is about 5% as opposed to usual risk of 2% - so not a huge increase. Plus they are supposed to scan you as you ovulate, for the first month AT LEAST, to monitor in case you respond to it TOO well and lay too many eggies.

RunLyraRun · 16/02/2010 14:44

VAG what are you doing SAVING chocolate biscuits? Share, woman.

RunLyraRun · 16/02/2010 14:47

I might watch it Laurie. Despite it causing meltdown for both you and I last week! I'm like a moth to the flame...and it did result in us learning about positive ways to take back some control of the situation (if it ever occurs, that is)
