Come in, come in. The wine is mulling, the bird is stuffed and cooked. We have a huge table at which to enjoy our festive feast, and the rippling Ricky Whittle is the centrepiece, draped in berries to be removed by whatever method you choose.

A bottle of Gin and an elf-man in a box awaits each and every one of you. Just make your wish and when you undo the bow he will appear.

There's a nativity tableau in the corner, for praying to the baybee Jebus and, most importantly of all, Santa has been asked to deliver the gift of exceptional fertility, so that each and every BESH can enter the new year with a baybeeee in their tum tum.

Oh, and I've let a few cats in to aid with the 2WOOFL menkulness.

Now, let's get together and get the tree up!

Maybe I should finish the scarf I started knitting in 2008 this year?

Ocarina · 29/12/2009 14:40

I once knitted a scarf for my teddy bear....

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 14:40

I love knitting. Am not terribly creative so it's really nice to have some outlet. Am still a bit of a novice though and like to knit for babies cos things don't take forever.....but this has been quite depressing this year as I find things I want to knit for my fictional offspring. I may actually knit something for myself next, once I've knitted a second mitten for my niece.

Knitting is great for (a) sitting and (b) watching crap telly.

I really should get out more.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 14:43

Camel I'll wait until it's on 3 for 2 then get it. I loved Possession too. It's so satisfying to read a really really good book occasionally. But also nice to palate-cleanse with light fiction in between.

Did you ever read The Sea The Sea by Iris Murdoch? Another author whose writing I find so satisfying because it isn't dumbed down or limited to regular words. And the story is lovely, weird and funny all at once.

Ocarina · 29/12/2009 14:44

A friend of mine has taken to knitting socks which always look lovely and warm with fab patterns on them. Not sure I could manage knitting round corners though. (OK, not sure I could do it at all any more, but corners even more so)

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 14:56

Turning the heel? ......I haven't tried, though I have a knitter-friend who says it is nowhere near as hard as legend tells. And you could always not do that - mother has friend whose socks don't have heels. This appeals to me [lazy].

As I'm a basic knitter there are many things I haven't tried yet - knitting in the round, proper interstasia etc. I mainly knit things that are flat, though am getting better at the shaping and completed a lovely tea cosy....only to sew it together inside out in error...... hey ho.

idealcamel · 29/12/2009 15:00

The Iris Murdoch sounds lovely - I've read a couple of things by her, but never have never read her systematically. Will check it out.

Ooh, and I got Wolf Hall & the Angela Carter fairy tales collection for Christmas. And the Luca Turin Perfumes: The Guide. Which is going to prove very, very expensive.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 15:04

ooh - Mum got Wolf Hall and I'm waiting for her to finish it so I can read it. Looking forward to it - I love the Tudor period stuff! Don't know the Angela Carter ones - let me know how you get on.

Ocarina · 29/12/2009 15:08

Yeah, I knew it had a proper name. You've lost me on interstasia though. Given that I recently unearthed a cross stitch I hadn't touched since long before we got married (about the limits of my creativity, following instructions!) I suspect trying to start knitting would be foolish.

No-one got me any books for Christmas, which is unusual but probably a good thing given the large pile of not yet read ones on the bookshelf!

HoneyPetal · 29/12/2009 15:43

VAG, did you mean me?

I'm not stalking you all, honest. Well, maybe a bit of stalking.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 15:51

Quiiiiiickk! Slam the door! I'll grab her legs!

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 15:59

David - bring gin and plenty of it!

Now, Honey, stay and play! Have you had the tour? - Dr House is in consultation inthe glass office over there, Dr Cox is just down that corridor, the Pit of Despair always contains Fight Club Brad, George Clooney in his pants and an assortment of Desparate Romantics, as well as a gin tap and a rope ladder. There's a courtyard full of puppies, though no one can remember why. And David and Bill man the bar and bring us booze. Make yourself at home!

HoneyPetal · 29/12/2009 16:15

Puppiiiiiiieeess!!!!!!!! I mean, yeah, whatever.

You temptress.

I would love to stay, as frankly I find you all hilarious and terrifying in equal measure. But I have to confess. There is no babydust up my nose. I do not SWI. I am a Big Fraud and currently reside on the 'TTC or not to TTC' thread, where I try to sort out my terror iss-shoos regarding babies and shiz. Believe it or not, you lot may be a peek into my future....

idealcamel · 29/12/2009 16:19

Honey On that basis, you're totally locked in here. We need some more ambivalent people since the previous ones went over to the dark side. And we could all do with some reminding that baybees are not always the answer.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 16:20

Oh HoneyChile believe me, we've mostly all been there! I was a fraud myself when I joined this madhouse thread in January or so. You can totally let rip about your concerns if you want to - but you can also drift in and out at will if you prefer. There Are No Rules. Unless you steal the gin, in which case we'll hunt you down and break your legs. [insane leer]

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 16:26

We should dig a Pit of Indecision, right alongside the Pit of Despair! But clearly labelled.

I was having a "oh god, what am I doing? I don't want this - argh" wig-out earlier in the year when another BESH admitted that though she was SWIing etc, the thought of actually conceiving made her do this "". I often think about that wise old BESH. That might be me one day, running about with my head on fire.

Cosmosis · 29/12/2009 16:29

Oh honey you poor innocent creature. Speak to me and cunty we're diffed and totally ambivalent about it.

I was cursing the whole thing yesterday as TGO pulled up at the side of the road (apoliges to the residents of Clapham North Yorks). Although it may have been a red herring in the form of a bug caught off 8 year old nephew as am feeling merely queasy today.

I saw a 19 day old baby last night and could not help staring at it's head in horror. And it was a twin so not even big.

What have I done??????????

idealcamel · 29/12/2009 16:35

Maybe we should have a Sofa of Indecision - so that people can be comfy while they think? The puppies could live there too, so that they can help with the decision-making.

Right, am OFF. No more work for me. Not that I've really done any.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/12/2009 16:37

Me too - enough of this charade! I'm off to the cinema to see Sherlock Holmes. I have very low hopes for this movie but for some reason am dying to see it. Cheery-bye all, thanks for entertaining me today!

idealcamel · 29/12/2009 16:37

Cosmo You can always give it to me if you don't want it...

HoneyPetal · 29/12/2009 16:39

It is very lovely to be invited in for a drink in the palace. This one is on me, bar-keep! Seasonal drinks all round (virgin for Scorps - although does that reveal the extent of my illicit stalking? Shit.).

My ambivalence about baybees is so complete that I disgust even myself with my lack of ability to make a decision. And for that reason I have been a secret reader of y'all rather than a poster, as I know there are many who are trying their utmost to conceive and maybe in the sad times the last thing you need is some idiot in the corner popping The Pill and dribbling.

Cosmosis · 29/12/2009 16:39

You could have had it with pleasure yesterday. today we are again on speaking terms.

HoneyPetal · 29/12/2009 16:41

Holy crap, you all type fast!

Bessie123 · 29/12/2009 16:42

HoneyPetal that is v thoughtful of you. It can/does get difficult. How old are you?

HoneyPetal · 29/12/2009 16:49

I am 32. And a half.
