Cycle Buddy? CD16 TTC+1yr - Over 35 - CBFM

Vodkaontherocks · 25/11/2009 12:26

Hiya all, will someone hold my hand and be my cycle buddy please? I've been lurking on these threads for a while, but as I seem to come under some many categories, I'm not sure which one to post on? I'm really struggling this month with fears of failure and would love to have some support from someone who knows exactly what I mean. Only one friend in RL knows we are TTC and she just keeps saying "stop stressing, it will happen", but it will be a year and I'm old - 36!. I've starting using CBFM this month and today have my first peak day on CD16. Cycle is quite regular 27-28 days.

I am obsessive about 2WW symptom spotting and drive myself crazy every month but keep getting BFN

Please/ anyone? (I'm not really crazy - honest?!)

good luck

I thought you were looking for a bike/cycling buddy

MrsJackBauer · 25/11/2009 20:47

Hello - I'll play !!!

I am 35 and TTC number 1 ... (only previous is miscarriage in September - very sad and traumatic at the time but am determined to move on

Cycle usually 27-28 also ... current day 25 (but did a test today for good measure - NEGATIVE!!)

Have a CBFM - and after bulk buying the test sticks mega cheaply online I am looking forward to using it next cycle...

I am not crazy either but I am old !!

asianbabe · 25/11/2009 20:55

Hey vodkaontherocks

Can I play too
Im on CD18 33 years old and TTC#2. I was just like you last month all freaking out going crazy. Poor DH was not amused at all. And let me say that 36 isn't too old at all.

pointsmakeprizes · 25/11/2009 22:47

I'll be in on this one, I'm 34 and TTC 2 and on CD 18 (i think!). It's nice to pass the time with others, makes the 2ww a teeny bit more bearable!

pointsmakeprizes · 25/11/2009 22:48

Just to add that I'm also using the CBFM - seems to be very popular on these threads!

Vodkaontherocks · 26/11/2009 11:27

hello thanks for joining me! I feel better already. Today is CD17, had 2nd peak, although DH got called away for work last night which means we have missed the first peak day and we last BD'd on Monday night, so I'm thoroughly depressed now. Do youthink we have missed the chance? I will pounce as soon as I see him later of course .

MrsJB hold on to some hope, its still v early, I'm crossing my fingers for you.

asianbabe thanks, I am going to pretend I am 21 again today! I feel like my body clock is ticking too loud at the moment, I really do feel like Ive missed my chance.

points how long is your cycle normally? Is it your first month using the CBFM?

OP posts:
asianbabe · 26/11/2009 12:11

I had my first DS at the age of 22 fell pg straight away no probs. Feels so much harder TTC #2 at the age of 33!!!left such a big gap because wanted to be more financially and emotionally more secure second time around.

vodkaontheocks you haven't missed the boat its just a little harder thats all.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 26/11/2009 13:00

Hi Vodka,

Have you considered now visiting the GP as a couple?. Daunting as that is it is something you really do need to consider now. Both of you should be tested further to see where the fertility problem/s lies.

You are beyond the stage of using such monitors at a year of ttc without success. Many gynaes as well like to see women over the age of 35 after six months of ttc without success.

Vodkaontherocks · 26/11/2009 14:11

Hi Attila, yes we have appt in the New Year. DH already has 2 children from a previous relationship and I have previously had HSG which showed all clear. I just feel a little less stressed knowing that something is happening, and the CBFM at least shows I am ovulating.

OP posts:
MrsJackBauer · 26/11/2009 15:56

Thanks ... not holding out much hope tho - think my hormones are still all over the place after m/c. My body is definitely messing with me !!

Sorry but as I am quite new I'm not sure of
some of the acronyms - whats HSG?

PS AWESOME drink of choice

Scotchontherocks · 27/11/2009 00:52

Still in need of a buddy?

I'm old, too (36), but young at heart, although I keep having to look up all the acronyms. Intimidated by lots of the forums - don't ever want to find myself using the term 'baby dust'!

TTC for nearly 3 years. All the tests diagnosed us with 'unexplained fertility'. Sitting here tonight with cramps ready for the inevitable. Even given up alcohol a few weeks ago. Slightly losing the faith.

Vodkaontherocks · 27/11/2009 10:31

hi everyone, hope youre all ok. Scotch hope theres no sign of AF? will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Today is CD18, CBFM says high and last night (yesterday was 2nd peak day) there was plenty of love in the cottage .

I'm now obsessing about having a luteal phase defect as it will mean its only 10 days aarghh.

Any news yet MrsJB? HSG is hsterosalpingogram and its where there put dye in and xray your tubes to see if they are clear.

Maybe I should give up the vodka?

OP posts:
MrsJackBauer · 27/11/2009 14:56

Defo don't give up on the vodka until you ABSOLUTELY have to !! It's the only thing that makes your "special time" arriving bearable (this is my husbands term by the way - used ironically of course, but I do hate the term AF!! Sorry ... )

Speaking of which it, along with lady pains, arrived today and therefore this month I lose. Boooooooo ... Looking on the bright side I get to play with my CBFM [grasping at straws emoticon]

Scotch - know what you mean - been completely intimidated by most things on here (man, there are some scary women about!!) and this has been my first ever proper interaction. So far so good (also hate baby dust, baby dancing URGHH!!, and many others!!)

Scotchontherocks · 27/11/2009 15:35

Sorry to hear that, Mrs Jack. I've not yet ventured into the world of CBFM's (not sure I even know what they are!). Know I would get totally obsessed with measuring stuff, though - perhaps in the New Year!

Still have a tiny sliver of hope here, but think am only kidding myself.

Glad to find other 'normal' (i.e. non-baby-dusty) people out there!

Vodkaontherocks · 27/11/2009 15:40

No more AF. How about "with flowers" as my dear old Gran would say!

I'm sorry to hear about MC MrsJB. I can't imagine how hard that must be.

Fingers crossed we're all winners next month hey?!

I'm hoping the CBFM wont ask me to wee on a stick tomorrow, I've used 12 sticks already and I want to try and relax now until failure date. (I'm not known for my optimism). I hate this waiting game now... drives me nuts!

Christmas shopping tomorrow though!

OP posts:
MrsJackBauer · 27/11/2009 18:50

LOVE "with flowers" !! So twee and totally Gran like - we'll stick with that . (Shall we abbreviate? WF??!!)

Yeh the whole mc thing is really strange. Its SSOOOOOOO not like what you think its gonna be. Physically I mean. And I almost feel like it didn't really happen - was awful and surreal and scary all at the same time but I think your mind shuts down at the time which is really clever. Thanks tho. Its nice when people take the time to say "sorry".

Keep hoping Vodka , even tho you are a bit pessimistic its great to know that the monitor is telling you that you are "functioning"!!! Quite reassuring at our age

What day are you on Scotch?

Scotchontherocks · 28/11/2009 07:26

Once more, my lack of terminology knowledge lets me down! Day 18 since first day 'WF'! So resisting taking a test. If still sans fleurs by 1st Dec, will do then (at least will have chocolate from advent calender to cheer me up)

Hang in their ladies - Madonna had her first at 42, so we have years!

pointsmakeprizes · 28/11/2009 10:00

Hi ladies

vodka - this is my 4th cycle on CBFM this time - I used it for DS who is now 2.5. He took about a year to conceive so don't lose hope - easier said then done! I had a HSG the first time round too - i think we actually conceived DS about 2 months after that so it may be true what they say that that can improve your chances. I know what you mean about the getting the peaks - it's like winning 2nd prize - not quite the bfp first prize but at least it's something! My cycle is normally around 31 - 36 days with the last 3 being around the 35-36 day mark so was really surprised to OV so early this month. I have been taking Evening primrose oil this month so not sure if that had anything to do with it but it definitely increased my cervical mucus around Ov time.

Sorry to hear about your MC MrsJ, I really hope that you will get some really news in time for Christmas.

Vodkaontherocks · 30/11/2009 10:00

Hi ladies, its good to hear from you. I'm starting to get the 2WW craziness already! The CBFM is still asking me to test on CD21. Is this right? I realise its my first month, but I've been testing now since CD6. I got two peaks on CD16 and CD17 and my cycle is usually quite regular at 27-28 days which means I am due on 6th/7th Dec. Do you think I ovulate too late? Also we missed the first peak day .

I've eaten my own body weight in chocolate over the weekend too however, I have tried to be good and hid the vodka for commiserations next weekend!

OP posts:
MrsJackBauer · 30/11/2009 20:41

Well done on avoiding vodka temptation - I do try to on the 2ww but since it always seems so futile (cos I'm clearly not fertile!!) its getting harder and harder. Chocolate is fine tho (unless there's too much caffeine in it - arrgghh !!! is there NOTHING we can do??!)

Think the monitor is just getting to know you this month to build up a picture so it can read you better from now on. Agree thats a little too long to be testing but am sure it'll ask later next month.

Madonna was 42 having Lourdes??? Flip, thought she was way younger than that. I am a fan tho so if its good enough for her etc...

And thanks Points - I hope so too ...

Vodkaontherocks · 02/12/2009 09:05

Hi ladies, how are we all doing?

I'm reporting in with my 2ww symptoms today is CD23 7 dpo. I had really vivid dreams last night, woke up with strange back ache type cramps which have now gone. I have slightly tender nips but thats quite usual. I'm sure we have failed again . WF should arrive on Sun or Mon.

On the bright side, I have two full days of xmas shopping to look forward to this weekend, so I'm going to try and ignore the twinges and get on with the wrapping and decorations!

Please please please let this me the month

MrsJackBauer · 02/12/2009 21:01

Well day 6 for me - which means I have to start with the sex bit now (sadly - seems such a chore these days !! Ahh how I long for the days of heady unbridled unplanned passion!!) Started back on the CBFM and got very excited when it asked me to POAS today. Sad!!

Vivid dreams Vodka? Could be a sign!! I have vivid dreams when I overheat. Is your temperature up? (a sign of pregnancy I believe). Try to stay positive, and not think of it as "failing", although I do know exactly how you feel. Always feels like such a kick in the teeth when I am WF.

Scotch are you still with us? Are you still "sans fleurs"??!!

Scotchontherocks · 02/12/2009 21:30

Hey, MrsJB,

Yes - still here. Day 35 and Scotch has no flowers and her second BFN. She is getting rather confused.

Best of luck for tonight - today has been rather crazy (in a good way), so I have high hopes for you.

Vodka - keep the faith. I'm told these things happen when you least expect. Either way, you're not alone. (BTW - sorry for cloning your name - was feeling very uninspired that night and thought it was really good!)

pointsmakeprizes · 02/12/2009 23:01

TTC sex is definitely a chore! Sometimes I have to tell DH "don't try and be a hero tonight" just so I can get it over and done with. No wonder I can't get pregnant!!

MrsJackBauer · 05/12/2009 16:04

LOL !! I have used the "don't be a hero" phrase too ... Those exact words !! Shaming.

Scotch I think your Geordie accent was excellent (well - it was in my head anyway !!). I hope this message finds you still without the daisies.

Hope you're doing ok Vodka - any further signs?

I am still currently waiting for a high on the monitor, but doing the deed anyway just in case. Drank too much last night tho and can't really remember much about the act itself - took me back to my younger days !! Mr Jack (or indeed, Jack) had to fill me in today (fnar fnar) on the details ... Once again, shaming.
