Late period although test saying BFN

muchchocolate · 13/10/2009 11:43

I've been off the mini pill for about 3 months now and we're ttc #2. The first 2 months my cycle was exactly 28 days and period came bang on 4 weeks. I was due on Saturday and no sign of period so 4 days late now but I have done test this morning and it said BFN. I was so sure I was going to get a BFP as when I woke up I had the metallic taste in my mouth and been v stuffed up which I've read can be an early pregnancy symptom too, also been v hot.

I know its still early days but patience is not my strong point and I'm so disappointed. There is no chance the test is wrong is there?...clinging to hope....

TIA

Hi Muchchocolate

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, I am a week late today! Did a test on sat/sun both BFN! I am always a 28 day cycle, so feel very confused! The day I was due to come on, I had very bad period cramps, and was wearing a ST, as convinced I was about to start. As the weeks gone on I've felt sick every morning, got very bad sinus time headaches, peeing loads but hardly drinking, constipation, gone off coffee and feeling exhausted all of the time!

I'm really not sure about the reliability of tests as when I waas prgnant with my daughter(now 16), didn't test positive till 9 weeks! Wheras with son (now 12)tested on day period was due!

Confused!

This may sound mad and I am not trying to pump you up with hope iykwim but....

With DS3 who is now 10 months, I didn't know i was preg till I was 3 months. I had no period and I kept testing but they all came back neg, every month.

I was exhausted but that was all, i never had sickness or sore boobs or anything. I had just lost 3 stone so thought maybe I had dropped the weight too quickly which had messed my periods up.

I went to Doc, said I had missed 3 periods and he asked if I was preg I said no, of course a test was the first thing I tried and they were all neg, every month. He tested me and lo and behold it was positive.

He couldn't explain it, neither could MW. Preg was fine, baby was fine.

muchchocolate · 13/10/2009 12:13

Good to know I'm not alone - its so frustrating! I was so so sure this morning that it'd be positive.

I guess all we can do is wait for AF to come and keep testing every few days to see if anything shows up.

My ds was a happy accident and I'm so glad as I don't like this waiting and hoping!

I was using one of the superdrug early response tests so I don't hold out much hope for me - mind you if your dd didn't show till 9 weeks then maybe sometimes it just does that.

Here's hoping for us both!

If you guys are 4 days and a week late I would go see doc.
See what their test says?

muchchocolate · 13/10/2009 12:17

Thanks LadyofTheFlowers - its nice to have hope!

I didn't want to do a test this morning but my DH really wanted me to and I only gave in as was pretty convinced it'd be positive - I quite like convincing myself I am pregnant and those BFN are just bringing me down!

Hi Ladies

Thanks for your reponse, its so reassuring o here your not on your own in this! I really hope you end up awith a BFP after all this waiting muchchocolate, and at least you've got someone at home to talk to! I've not even mentioned it to mine, as it was only a few weeks ago he was talking about going for the snip as he doesn't want anymore children.

Ladyoftheflowers

So you never had a BFP till later on either, it just shows, they can be really unreliable can't they? Did you get yours confirmed by a blood test then?

muchchocolate

So when are you going to test again?

muchchocolate · 13/10/2009 12:35

I'm think I'm going to hold off till Friday and test again and if still no AF and no positive then I'll maybe go to docs on Mon.

You're doing well keeping it from your DH, I find it hard to keep anything like this quiet, I feel like its all I can think about!

Fingers crossed for you too!

Its on my mind constantly, thats why I'm on Mumsnet, then I don't feel so alone! I don't see the point in causing any tension, until I no for sure!

I'm going to try and hold till week, and if its still neg and I'm still experiencing symtoms I will go and see my GP!

keep in touch and let me know if you have any news..

Hi muchchocolate I've just read your post with interest, as it's exactly the same as what happened to me last month.

Since coming off the pill in June I had 2, 28 day cycles and then on my 3rd cycle AF due date came and went, I spent a fortune on buying numerous (Tesco, Superdrug and First Response) tests and pretty much tested every other day, as I was completely convinced that I was PG and every single time I got a BFN, I was getting more and more disappointed until in the end a whopping 10 days later AF reared her ugly head .

I'm not telling you this to try and dash your hopes, but just wanted to save you a spending a small fortune on PG tests.

Advice I received from other MNetters, when I posted is that it's quite common to experience an abnormally long cycle from time to time and that Dr's don't tend to want to know until your at least 6wks late with a BFN.

As I said I don't want to dash your hopes, as there's always hope until AF shows up and I really hope that she doesn't for you

muchchocolate · 13/10/2009 20:08

Hi,

Thanks for your post FactsandFigures, you must have been raging when AF came 10 days late- good to try to keep my feet on the ground and not be working out due date already!

I know there is every chance that its just a messed up cycle. Thankfully I'm not too keen on testing all the time as its too disappointing so I'm gonna hold off till the end of the week and see what happens.

Glad to see I'm not alone!I had a MMC in June, went back to 30 day cycle after that. Was due on Monday.Had the usual twinges over the weekend but nothing happened on Monday.Tested in the evening- negative.I keep having the occasional twinge but still nothing, tested again this morning, again negative.

This is making me grumpy, as if the waiting every month wasn't bad enough already!
Think I will do another test on the weekend if still nothing by then. Sometimes I feel like I'm keeping Clearblue in business single handedly!

ErnestTheBavarian · 14/10/2009 07:18

snap, I'm in the same boat - am now 10 days late . tested on day 6 and on day 9, both bfn. don't really want to go to doc but I suppose I'll have to if no af by end of week. good luck.

muchchocolate · 14/10/2009 16:49

Looks like its quite common then - guess we'll all just need to wait and see what the outcome is.

Hope its good news for everyone!

Ernest

There's a few of us ttc over on the June thread - come back!!

ErnestTheBavarian · 14/10/2009 17:18

ttc

jphc · 14/10/2009 19:41

muchchocolate

Just to let you know, AF reared its ugly head today, very painful, heavy and lots of huge clots!

Hope yours hasn't arrived as I know how much you want this! I know I should be relieved, but my relief is tinged with a little sadness! I'm glad I didn't say anything to DH, as he wouldn't understand how I was feeling-not wanting anymore children.

Sending you lots of luck with ttc, if it doesn't work out this time.

neenz · 14/10/2009 20:07

jphc, my period was late last week (only a few days) and also had a few clots and was quite heavy. I was thinking this could have been a very early MC, is that possible?

muchchocolate · 15/10/2009 08:34

Jphc, so it turned up after all!

How you feeling? You thinking about trying again or is it a no no with your DH?

No sign of mine yet and don't feel like its coming anytime soon but at the same time don't feel particularly pregnant - will test on Sat if nothing by then.

I hate the not knowing - was going to take some lemsip last night and then thought I prob shouldn't in case I am pregnant!

neenz - I've wondered about that before too, when my period has been extra heavy - no idea, I guess it could be though?

ErnestTheBavarian · 15/10/2009 13:25

I'm now 11 days late. Wish I had someone to talk to about this, and also a clear answer one way or another. I tested 6 and 9 days. should I test again? And when? It's costing me a fortune. The tests are only on sale here in single packs at £8 a throw, so it's not something I can do whenever I feel like it. Doing me head in.

tammybear · 15/10/2009 14:23

Hope you don't mind me hyjacking the thread too lol. But I was due Saturday just gone, got all the symptons, and 3 tests later I'm still BFN. Went docs today and she said it was likely I wasn't pregnant, but will test for pregnancy and any infections I have. I was so sure I'd get BFP but this has upset me quite a bit, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in this boat!!

I'm not sure what to do. When I had DD, I tested 5 days late and it came back BFP so I don't understand now. My doc has also got me worried that it's something completely different. Although she wasn't my usual doctor and she was half an hour late so she was rushing through our appointment which I wasn't happy about. Although she did say to me, if I started to bleed at any point, to come straight back to the docs or if it's out of hours, go straight to the hospital. So that's comforting...

lillylane · 15/10/2009 18:36

I just came on this afternoon. Its a relief almost. At least we can start again. So now I seem to have irregular periods on top of everything else. Bum.
Hope everyone else is having more luck!

tammybear · 15/10/2009 21:50

Typical how I posted a few hours back on here, and now it looks like I'm about to come on. I'm gutted Stupid body!

ErnestTheBavarian · 16/10/2009 11:00

TB and LL, sorry you're disappointed AF came.

MuchChocolate, are you still waiting? How many days are you over?
