Forgot to say. No news here. I stupidly told the doctor that I was trying to/was giving up smoking (again) and now have to wait six months before she'll refer me to the fertility clinic in Oxford.

Bah! Wish I'd kept my mouth shut now, I bet loads and loads of people lie about it.

Still, it'll give me a chance to lose a bit more weight so I suppose that's a positive. The timing couldn't be worse though, but we're just going ahead anyway.

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to stop by and wish Beanie all the best. I'll be rooting for you!
Hi PL, feeling good thanks, just have to keep squashing down my anxieties about something going wrong still!
Lots of kicking and wriggling, you would think little bean was in training for the olympics!

love to everyone,
Lou

Hello all,
First day on mumsnet. Just spend the afternoon reading through this thread, and following all your stories with a lot of interest, and big doses of happiness and sadness for you all as well.

Can I be added to the list please?

jaamy · 27/01/2010 10:14

Welcome lucielooo - hope your stay is short but ever so sweet.

Lou - lovely to hear about the wriggling. You must be in your final trimester. Ooooh, it's very exciting. I can't remember whether you'd posted if you knew whether bean was pink or blue?

have updated stats...Ei - I've put you on a little break, hun. Let us kow when you want to get back on the list. Hope you and S&S are ok. Yes, we do need a meet up. Liverpool thread gone very quiet

PL - Hope you are ok. Bummer about the smoking thing. Yes, I'm sure most people lie about health, how long they've been TTC, etc. You are just to honest for your own good! Are your stats right?

Beanie - fantastic news - though I bet you're still trying to get your head around it. I so hope that everything goes well for you now - you deserve it.

Claire - how's life treating you? Good I hope.

Has anyone seen Blackrock around? Hope she's ok.

DH away with work 5 days (and 4 NIGHTS!) a week for the forseeable Doesn't look like we're gonna get our bean this year, either!

PL that sucks about the 6 month wait. But in the meantime good luck with giving up.

buddha he's gorgeous many congratulations

lou great news about all the wriggling!

PL- I hope that you are getting jiggy with it...you never know.

Claire - Hope you had a nice few days away. Did you go anywhere nice?

Do you know what, I'm half thinking about meeting DH somewhere at a Travel Inn halfway between Liverpool and Taunton for a quick one next cycle. Now, if I only had some idea of when I ovulated...

PistachioLemon · 28/01/2010 22:05

Jaamy - why not meet him anyway as you say...you never know

OP posts:
jaamy · 29/01/2010 09:24

well, it is DH's birthday on Tuesday

Though of course I won't be ovulating then...

LaRagazzaInglese · 29/01/2010 23:32

Can I cheat and just give up on my 2009 stats? I'm starting over from 2010!
New year, new start, and all that jazz. I feel more positive about this year, although I always say that in January!
So i'm claiming myself as TTC#1, cycle 1, day 5. Actually my first cycle of the year, I was abroad and DH at home so no BD, what a waste of good eggs!
Today my pack of pre-seed/ovulation tests/PG tests arrived from ebay!!! so i thought i'd get on mumsnet to feel a bit more TTCish.
As I said, day 5 so i'll keep you posted when I've actually got something to say!

Happy humping!!!

LaRagazzaInglese · 29/01/2010 23:34

ps. anyone trying to give up smoking should read Allen Carr's Easyway (no, not the comedian) it really works, and IS so easy!

beanieb · 30/01/2010 21:43

Hi all...

Should have come back sooner to update on what's happened.

PistachioLemon - Boo to the Doctor. I know how hard the struggle to give up fags is. Keep at it and I agree with LaRagazzaInglese, Allan Carr is very good.

lucielooo - Welcome

jaamy have you decided to meet up with your husband?

wave to ClaireDeLoon and good luck LaRagazzaInglese .

Well, we had our appointment and I will be starting IVF in March! Was very worried at first as they actually said they wouldn't class me as infertile because I managed to get pregnant in may and my AMH test was good. So I pointed out that there had been a more uptodate AMH test in Nov but I had never asked for the results - was too chicken. He scurried off to find it only to tell me the result had dropped from 10.3 to 2.6 which is apparently really really bad.

But.. they have said they WILL give me IVF though the chances of success are quite low. If I don't respond well enough to the drugs they may convert to IUI.

So I am hopeful but trying to be realistic about the chances of success. I have to go back on the pill if my period comes next week and then at the begining of April we start with the injecting (scary) and if that goes well will go ahead.

PistachioLemon · 31/01/2010 00:16

Beanie, that sounds so exciting. Finally something is happening Are they nice at the clinic? And do they give you lots of stuff to read?

I'm still too scared to read up on IVF at all, but if anyone's got any good book or website recommendations, I'd love to hear them. Probably still won't do anything about it, but at least it can sit there in my subconsciousness until I'm feeling brave enough about the whole thing.

LaRagazzaInglese (and Beanie) for the Alan Carr tip. I was thinking about going for CBT/hypno locally as there's a guy who's really really good, but he's also really really expensive so perhaps it would be worth trying something else first. The pills the doc gave me just make me want to puke - bleugh.

So, Jaamy, are you going on Tuesday? Go on, go on, you know you want to

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 31/01/2010 00:17

That should be 'thanks'...for the Alan Carr tip. When will I learn to proof-read?

OP posts:
beanieb · 31/01/2010 00:33

PL - I am going to try Acupuncture, really expensive but apparently worth it. I think it really is worth persuing the CBT or Hypnotherapy too. Also - I am sure that you can do Allan Carr sessions - my friend did a few years ago and stopped smoking after 18 years of fags!

The clinic people are nice, particularly the nurses. They allocate 2 nurses who will be with you all through your care which is nice. I finally feel like they are doing something positive.

We were suppose to get a dvd but all copies are out at the moment so I may not get to see one at all. I haven't read up on IVF until recently and it was quite helpful to know a bit as I could talk to the consultant with more knowledge which sped the consultation up a bit. I am reading professor Winston's book and also a book called 'fit for fertility' which my friend bought me. Am trying to prepare my body so I am in the best health but I have had a bit of wine tonight so maybe I will start again properly tomorrow

PistachioLemon · 01/02/2010 09:40

Oh yes, the old starting-again-on-Monday-morning-itus. I have that today as well. Especially after being weighed by the doctor today - there must be something wrong with her scales as I'm over five pounds heavier than on my scales and I'm absolutely certain my scales are correct

Beanie, maybe I'll see if my library will get me a couple of books in and then I can leave them on the bedside table for a while. I'd heard that professor Winston's book was good, but would be interested in looking at the Fit for Fertility one too. We've been doing a lot of walking and I've been doing pilates too and watching what we're eating, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to be a little more scientific about it.

Glad to hear the clinic people are nice. It must be such a sense of relief to know that something positive is happening at last.

OP posts:
beanieb · 02/02/2010 10:25

PL - I am sure my scales must be wrong too They show me as a lot heavier than I am used to.

Am now on CD 23 of my cycle. Last month's cycle was 22 days so I am now knicker checking like mad and fantasising about the impossible; that I will actually be pregnant and not have to do IVF. Still, I can't test because it's far too early (Despite my DH telling me yesterday that I should and me having to explain why it would be silly to test on day 22 of my cycle ) so am just waiting now to see if my cycle might be a bit longer this month.

Hope all are well?

jaamy · 02/02/2010 20:29

PL - GPs scales are always wrong!

I try to steer clear of text books since uni when I over read on every topic and ended up confusing myself even more. Could be why I'm here now

Beanie - good to hear you have a nice team looking after you. Perhaps you might not need them after all? Surely if your AMH test has dropped, it can also come back up again?

ItalianGirl! Are you a name change or do we have some lovely new blood to freshen up our thread? Either way, good to see you. I reckon you're about CD9 now so should be merrily humping away! Good luck!

I didn't make it to meet up with DH. No babysitter. So he is stuck there all alone on his birthday and I am stuck here. On top of everything I just had a blazing row with my dad over the silliest thing (he said that it was stupid for the Eggheads quiz team to put a woman in to answer the sports question ) Proof that I am about to get a visit from AF.

LaRagazzaInglese · 03/02/2010 17:13

Hi, I just wrote this on a different thread: I should be ovulating around tomorrow/Friday, and have a job interview Friday morning! Which if i got, would be a huge improvement to our lives and set us up even better for starting a family. To BD or not to BD??? THAT is the question. Was so looking forward to using my ovulation sticks etc, now i'm feeling it would be silly and irresponsible to TTC if they were to offer me the job. It's bad enough waiting for AF to sod off, but waiting to start TTC is torture when you want it so much. Half of me thinks oh well i probably won't get the job and shouldnt waste time (and fertile time), but can't mess up a good opportunity to get on the right path.

Actually the more i type, the more i feel i should follow my head not my heart...

jaamy · 04/02/2010 11:32

LRI - I was going to type something along the lines of not putting your life on hold...employers will have to honour mat leave if you got pg and the new job...etc, etc, but then I clicked on your profile and saw that you are living in Italy, where I suppose you may not be entitled to Mat leave.

All I can say is that I put my life on hold career-wise while TTC DD1. We waited 4 years and I got stuck in a rubbishy job because I thought, as you do, that I couldn't get a new job while TTC. So, I had to quit said rubbishy job shortly after DD2 came along because I couldn't afford the childcare on the rubbishy wages. Fortunately DH earns enough to support us and I do a bit of freelance work but I know that when DD2 is in fulltime school (September) I am going to struggle to find a decent job because of my lack of experience. All because I put my life on hold. I find I am in danger of doing the same again - we've been TTC#3 3.5 years this time around. DH can't understand why I feel I can't go for a job knowing (hoping) that in a few months I will have to tell them I'm pg. I don't know how long you have been TTC all together and whether you feel that you can put off TTC for a while - you've got 10 years on me but I did start TTC when I was 27. I would suggest that if you are joining a large-ish organisation then they wouldn't be so upset with you taking mat leave, however if it is small, it could make things awkward for them and you. I don't know what the attitude is in Italy towards mat leave?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you really shouldn't have to choose between baby and career. Do you know any one else who works for them? Can you find out what their attitude is towards mat leave?

HTH - as I say I don't know all your circumstances but can only let you know my experience. Hope you don't stress too much over this, and GOOD LUCK for your interview on Friday!

I'm approaching D-day, again...no sign of anything, except that I'm going to the loo a lot, but that could just be the green tea!!

Beanie - anything??

Big wave to everyone else! x

Hi Lucie! How are things with you?

beanieb · 04/02/2010 15:30

hi there

I tested today - day 25. Silly really and was obviously negative. I am just willing my period to come now because then I can start taking the pill.

Have been researching IVF diets and wondering if I should get some nettle tea? I hate herbal teas but have given up coffee so perhaps should just drink it and hope it has some kind of effect! Looks like I shold be trying to eat more organic meats and pulses so I am planning a trip to the farmer's market this weekend.

Was just talking to my workmate about how I am dreading my 40th birthday. I was planning on going away but it'll be too close to the Egg transfer so I'll be at home waiting for good or bad news. Her opinion was that if it's bad you'll just have to drink a bottle of wine Yeah right, that'll work!

LaRagazzaInglese · 04/02/2010 17:19

Thanks jaamy Im not too sure about maternity leave here, but i do know that theres no work, lots of strikes, redundencies, short temp contracts, and most jobs you dont get paid the first 2 months as you're in 'training', so i kind of want to be as perfect a candidate as possible and seem flexible and available and not ask about it in the interview. I have a horrible cold/flu so BDing doesnt seem to be on the books anyway, maybe its fate, if its a no i hope they tell me straight away!

Hello. I haven't read the thread for a while....but off to do that now. Have been TTC with no luck, but all scans and tests returned as normal?!?

Hopefully will get a big fat + in the next couple of months as cycles not more regular. Ever the optimist
