Had my appointment today. Returned home with a pot for DH, who now has said no to being tested and does not want fertility treatment as we already have one child.

oh blackrock

jaamy · 27/08/2009 00:42

Blackrock - hope that DH is just having cold feet at the thought of being scrutinised and will see sense shortly. Is it possible he was just having a bad day? Or perhaps he is seeing the stress TTC is putting you under and is trying to take the pressure off for another baby?

Hope you are ok. x

Comma2 · 27/08/2009 00:56

Oh no Blackrock...tell him that a low sperm count or other abnormailties can be a sign of stuff besides fertility that might have to be treated (like a varicocele causing testerone levels to slowly decrease over time--no good!).

Paha, swollen ankles, I wished. But will by no means discourage the effort. It's all worth it.

beanieb · 27/08/2009 11:28

Oh Blackrock, that's really sad. Do you think he may be persuaded? I think that's terribly mean of him. Is he maybe scared that he may discover the 'problem' is him?

I do hope that you are able to talk to him about this and persuade him otherwise.

blackrock · 27/08/2009 16:25

Thanks for support. Managed to get him to read the information that came when the appointment was made. After this he was more specific about not wanting IVF type intervention, which would be some time off anyway as we are at the very beginning of being investigated, so bit more positive.

Think it may be cold feet too. Hopefully by looking at us both they will be able to help us if there is a problem.

beanieb · 28/08/2009 13:07

glad to hear he's a little bit more positive Blackrock.

PistachioLemon · 28/08/2009 23:25

Sorry to see you back at the top Blackrock. I shall be joining you tomorrow - I've been having progressively heavier spotting today. Which means the Clearblue fertility monitor is coming out to play in the morning

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 28/08/2009 23:27

PS was about to ask when the midcycle scan is. Doh, that would be errrmmm, in about two weeks. Glad to see your DH is perhaps softening to the idea of sperm tests. My DHs sperm test is on the 8th so not long to go now.

beanieb · 29/08/2009 13:52

ho de hum. am so fed up with the waiting. Feeling low today as I can see that people all around me are popping babies out or selfishly gearing up to have the next one, which no doubt they will achieve without hassle and then rub in my face ... actually I know that's not true but still, it makes me feel a bit crappy all over again.

I am thinking I might make an appointment to see the consultant at the fertility unit just to see where we should go if this round of clomid doesn't work. They only gave me three months so maybe I need to get another three months or maybe I need to think seriously about giving up on the dreram of kids and spending all my money on traveling the world and becoming interesting or something.

hope all ok.

PistachioLemon · 29/08/2009 14:57

Hey Beanie. I was a bit fed up this morning too but I'm about to set off on a walk - which ends at the pub - so that has cheered me up.

Maybe you should make an appointment with the consultant - it might cut down the waiting time if, as you say, the clomid doesn't work, and if it does work (which I'm still hoping it will) then you can always cancel.

Just updating

Anyone with any news? PL sorry to see you back at the top but not long now until you can start using the monitor

Lou - how are things with you?

jaamy · 01/09/2009 13:02

Hello all!

Sorry forgot to update. Was really gutted this month. Lots of weeping and wailing and staying up all night trying to make sense of things. DH and I now have a plan in hand. Bit long winded to go into here but basically we have decided to give ourselves until the end of the year and then give up. Either way I can then make plans about work/home/life and MOVE ON.

PL - hope the walk and pub went well and managed to blow away some of the fed up feeling.

Blackrock - good to see the tests are progressing. Hope it won't be too long before you have some answers.

Beanie - hoping clomid has done the trip again this month. Did you make the consultant appt? How great would the cancelling-the-appointment phone call be?

PS you can still travel the world with a baby!

Back from a very muddy camping expedition yesterday so washing the mud encrusted everything today. When did BD in a tent get so uncomfortable? Used to do it all the time. Guess am just getting old !

Hey Jaamy
sorry to hear you've had a bad time this month. I have prepared my DH for next week when I will probably be doing the same kind of weeping and wailing. I hope you don't have to decide to give up. I am wondering the same but don't know how I will ever be able to stop that hopeful feeling each month.

PL how is the monitor going?

PistachioLemon · 05/09/2009 10:19

Monitor's great thanks Beanie... am on to peeing on sticks every day which is novel

My walk to the pub was wonderful - lots of Sunshire, birds singing, loveliness. Ahhh. When I go there I called DH who was working and he came and joined me... it was a win win situation which I'm thinking of repeating today.

DH has his sperm test on Tuesday, but I'm not convinced he's going to go. He says he wants me to go into work as usual and that he'll (ahem) deal with it himself. But I know he's so busy with work (he's working again all weekend - for the third weekend in a row) and also a bit frightened of the test that it's probably likely to fall by the wayside. My plan is to do gentle reminders maybe once or twice and then leave it...do you think that's a good idea? I've never been in this situation before and don't want to put too much pressure on the poor guy.

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 05/09/2009 10:19

got, it should be got, not go...aaarrrghhh

OP posts:
beaniebgivesupontheDMarsery · 05/09/2009 11:38

I went with my DH. We had to go to the clinic at the hospital and I stayed in the waiting room while he did his biz. he seemed quite keen to do it but took longer than I thought he would so maybe the pressure was on a bit. Hope you get it sorted and he does do it. Not sure what to suggest but maybe just chat about it a bit with him. We found the whole thing quite amusing so joked a lot about it which kind of took the heat off.

Am kicking myself for testing this morning (BFN) because now I am clinging on to the hope that I might be in the same situation as when I got pregnant before and just not far gone enough. I didn't get a BFP until day 30 last time. Last month my cycle was 28 days I think, and I wasn't on Clomid, which is quite long for me. This month (on clomid) I am up to day 27. Usual cycle is more like 25 days.

wah!!!

Comma2 · 05/09/2009 16:19

Hi girls,
oh man, I'm so sorry about everybody feeling down...what can I say, try to not... life still feels like an unfair crap shoot once you have kids. I don't know....I might be going blind on one eye bc of pregnancy, not to talk about being in so much pain I cry every night etc, and still having to get up bright and early to take care without a break of my darling daughter and read humpty dumpty with a smile for the 200est time even though i want to be in bed, crying with the cover over my head... I love them more than anything, but there are plenty of times when I long very much for my old life...haha, sorry, I'm sure you'll hate me for this, but that's prenatal depression for you. Can't wait for postpartum, yikes. Sorry everybody. I hated posts like these when I was ttc. just want to say not to think life isn't worth living without kids if it doesn't happen.

Comma2 · 05/09/2009 17:13

Oh no, I feel really bad about what I wrote but can't delete. I just wished I'd been a bit more zen about it when I was ttc, but what applies to me does not apply at all to the next person. Sorry again.

beaniebgivesupontheDMarsery · 05/09/2009 17:19

hey comma, I know what you mean. I just spent 20 minutes watching the 5 year old daughter of one of my best mate having a complete meltdown because she wasn't allowed to come for lunch with us! I asked her if she fancied any more kids and she said she'd rather stab herself in the eye

Hope you are ok and not too depressed by the pregnancy lows.

BuddhaBellyBigPants · 06/09/2009 10:26

Oh girls I wish I could wave a magic wand or even a more unromantic big shitty stick and get you all what you want
You all deserve so much more happiness than what you have at the moment, you all made me cry (bloody horror-mones)!!!
Jaamy I can't change your decision but I hope it brings you some peace, and maybe just maybe without all the pressure a BFP will just sneak up on you?
Beanie I'll be watching and waiting to see what happens with this cycle, come on clomid!
PL Good luck for Tuesday, I think as Beanie said making a joke of it is probably the best way of dealing with it. Maybe he wants to go on his own coz he's who knows how our men think
Comma Sorry to hear things aren't too good for you at the moment How much longer til your EDD? Are you able to take anything for the depression?
Big weekend waves to everyone else

blackrock · 06/09/2009 11:13

Just made a cup of tea and some banana and chocolate muffins. Please share them with me as I think we all need to sit down and have a relaxing chat.

The thread feels a bit low, and not surprising really as everyone is impatiently waiting, hoping or making difficult decisions.

I have a scan apppointment tomorrow, so wish me luck that it's all straight forward and functioning... when the app. came through DH asked me about his test, so think he has changed his mind, on the basis that they are going to check to see if we are both functioning.

We've decided, as we have one lovely DS, that we won't go further than clomid. Hopefully, this will do the trick.

Now we know what we want to do, I feel much better and I think DH does too.
