Hi everyone, sorry I took so long to post. We have only just established internet connection, but everything seems to be going OK. The doctor seems quite pleased with my progress, describing everything as 'good' or 'normal' and hasn't mentioned 'appalling' 'no-hope loser' or anything like that, so I feel quite calm at the minute.
The journey was very long and had some very stressful moments, like the taxi driver not being able to find the apartment on the night we arrived. We finally ended up here, via another hotel and lots of stress and adrenaline, however, it's all quietened down now, and I don't want to get into a tizzy over stuff, so taking things as they come.
The doc here is not revealing a great deal, the old school approach: don't trouble the patient with annoying details. He rushed me a bit the last appointment, and does seem slightly short of time, or at least is not dwelling on details. As long as he takes his time when it is necessary I don't mind. In some ways not having internet access and all details is preventing me from speculating about the outcome and I feel quite calm as a result. Blissful ignorance perhaps?
We are in the very hilly part of Budapest - the hills of buda I think, and we have been walking around quite a bit eating lovely icecream. I think it is around 20-25 degrees, not sure, but pleasant and not too hot.
I hope everyone is OK and we have some bfps soon. I don't want to make any predictions on mine because I just don't want to think about it, just stay like this: on holiday and quite relaxed with a bit of IVF thrown-in.

KiwiKat · 27/04/2009 22:15

Good to hear from you Rowing. You're sounding really positive - must be the icecream!

beamel · 27/04/2009 23:24

Great stuff rowing - all the best !

dixie64 · 28/04/2009 16:43

Buda sounds lovely Rowing - hope all goes well - ice cream is definately good for positivity and tastes good too!
x

fruitbowl · 28/04/2009 21:26

Hi everyone and welcome Eleveld - so sorry you feel upset. You've found a lovely place to offload as much as you want and we even do virtual chocs (passing the tin)

GonePS and Kiwi yes I'm so with you on the soul destroying fertile people that keep fecking showing their faces and the ever widening age gap between DC1 and future imaginary baby . Life's bollocks sometimes. Kiwi do you mean the ovulation microscope? It's so groovy it actually looks like a lipstick!!

Spiral love the gag about the directionally challenged swimmers!!

Tetley - ooh never got to CD29 before? Sounds dare I say promising? Do your parents know you're TTC and on clomid etc?

Great to hear from you Rowing. I agree with the other ladies, keep on the hard stuff - the ice cream! never mind the IVF, it's the ice cream that'll get you up the duff!

I'm on CD16, no idea which day I'm ovulating. Can be anything from 11 - 20. Clomid has seen off any traces of EWCM so no signs there, tried to temp but it's up n down like a yo-yo and my ovulation microscope only showed positive on the day when I forgot you weren't meant to eat anything so that was probably wrong. I hate not knowing what's going on. Just trying to stick to the BDing every other day without falling asleep!

Good luck everyone else! xx

KiwiKat · 28/04/2009 23:21

Evening everyone. Hope you're all doing well, avoiding the witch etc. Tetley, is today cd30? You're off for your bloods tomorrow, Spiral?

We're off to the specialist at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning to find out Why It's Not Working. Am both nervous and excited - I have no idea what he's going to say. Wish me luck!

haraslou · 29/04/2009 02:06

Hi everyone - Eleveld was just at a party with a friend of a friend and her 10month old who I last saw a few years ago when she'd all but given up hope after 10years of infertility and being told she had a 1% chance of conceiving. Just dropped off another friend who was offered a hysterectomy in her 20's due to endo, was told she'd never get pregnant. Now has a 4 and 2yr old. I honestly think the whole medical field that concerns women's bits/ fertility etc v. much in its infancy...
Tetley- have everything crossed which might not be helping my efforts ttc but what the hell -day 30, that's gotta be good news???

ps I know I look like a raging insomniac from the times I post but am actaully in Nz so catch up with the goss while you're all sleepin.

spiralqueen · 29/04/2009 13:29

Kiwi - bloods done but a week to get results....

Good luck Rowing!

KiwiKat · 29/04/2009 14:59

Well, went to the fertility doctor this morning, and everything seems fine and in working order, so it must be that I'm just TOO DAMN OLD. Or stressed. They're putting me on Clomid for three months, then we'll talk about IVF if that's not working. (He very kindly pointed out that we don't have time to wait.) This should be interesting ...

They told DH that he should give his liver a break and lay off the booze a bit - I had to hide a smile. We've both got a bit porky lately, so hopefully this will be the wake up call we need to eat a bit better and do a bit more exercise.

Haraslou, I love those stories, they give me hope. How's everyone else doing? Any news?

rowingboat · 29/04/2009 15:41

Hi all, just back from the clinic and supposed to be having bedrest 'cha right'! I'm sure DS will be more than happy to entertain himself and make his own tea.
DP has had to make a flying trip back to the clinic because they want his passport and may not introduce his 'boys' to the eggies if he doesn't produce ID.
Had to get knocked out today for the egg collection, so felt extremely peculiar and had very fetching gown, don't you just love garments which tie up the back, oo and plastic shoe things. Very sexy!
So there were ten eggs and they are going to try to fertilise them today, so hopefully we will have a bit more info tomorrow.
I totally agree Haraslou the experts are not really keeping up with things, which is rubbish when you consider the number of couples having trouble conceiving.
Tetley, waiting with bated breath to see what happens.
Spiral that's ages isn't it! If it is your GP, I would try phoning on Friday or Monday, the receptionists will know if your results are back. Mine have always told me a week, but in practice the results are usually back within a couple of days. Fingers crossed everthing is OK, or that you get an obvious solution through the results.
Fruit, hope something happens soon. I know you have all the equipment there to spot any slight change in hormone levels. Nothing can escape your paraphenalia.
Kiwi hope it went well today. Looking forward to hearing what happened.

gonepearshaped · 29/04/2009 15:43

Rowing - glad to hear all well with you, whenever in doubt eat more ice-cream!

Fruitbowl can I join you in the confused about ovulation corner... Its one thing symptom spotting for a BFP but I'm just looking for an ov right now

Kiwikat very glad your tests turned out OK and yes, it really is great to read those positive stories Haraslou.

Am going to try a low GI diet (supposed to help if you have PCOS) and I'll try anything just now...

tetleytea · 29/04/2009 15:57

Fast post as parents arriving in hours, house upside down as usual etc

good to hear from you rowing. sounds positive.

Grrr...AF has just arrived . All i can say is: thank god i listened to the twinges and had a LARGE glass of champagne at a kid's b'day party yesterday....!

Sigh...Hope everyone else has more luck this month

rainbowdays · 29/04/2009 16:30

Hi all, I am a lapsed poster (whoops!) but thought I would add my stats too:
Rainbowdays 41 ttc#4 for 10 months, with two chemical pgs in that time (ds1 5, dd 4, ds2 1). I have just ov'd so in now in the horrible 2ww,,, uggg.

fifitot · 29/04/2009 19:34

I am too in 2 ww and desperate for a glass of Shiraz!

haraslou · 30/04/2009 08:55

So glad you had that champagne, Tetley. Funny how our bodies give us little clues without really letting us know what's happening, or handing over any kind of control.

I've got my second, bonus AF just now - maybe I need to join the ovulatory challenged. I have a bonus extra bleed every month, starts a couple of days after my period. It seems to end around ovulation time - up til now I have always been regular and o'd D16/17 but who, knows, it's all a bit weird. I've waited 3months so far for an appt to have it all checked out, nothing so far. it seems no-one's too bothered with such symptoms if you're this side of the menopause. been happening now since I m/c'd last sept. and I'm a leetle over it, I have to say. at least i can take on the responsibility of imbibing for all in the 2WW!

vonsudenfed · 30/04/2009 09:41

hello everyone.

rowing you sound very content and relaxed out there, I'm glad your having fun in between the medical gowns... Keep going with the updates, it's great to hear it as it happens.

Kiwicat am very interested to hear your updates from the fertility doctor as you're the same age as me and have been ttc about the same amount of time. What are they hoping that the Clomid does? [ignorant emoticon]

hello haraslou and eleveld and welcome.

Right, off to do some work now!

rowingboat · 30/04/2009 17:05

Hi everyone, it's time for the daily news..... we have just spoken to the doctor and he says all of the eggs have fertilised, which is very unusual. I am feeling a wierd because everything is going a bit too smoothly and it's all going to go wrong any minute.
Wah!
Not relaxed at the moment.
I have had to start taking progesterone pessaries, which I think is helping to add to my edginess. Does progesterone make you feel edgy?
Just ignore me, I'm getting cabin fever, because my tummy still feels a bit achey, so I can't walk around or do that much.
On the plus side it is a lovely evening and DS seems quite happy running around outside.
Oh have to go
will post again soon
big hugs to all

fruitbowl · 30/04/2009 19:50

Hi everyone!

Woo-hoo Rowing you have 10 fertilised eggs!! Now doesn't that sound just grand? Did you have to neck a lot of drugs to harvest 10 eggs? I'm only just managing 1 on the clomid! (I have egg envy!!) Loads of luck. Especially on the fashion front. I love it when your arse is hanging out the back of one of those gowns and then they give you a supermarket basket to carry your clothes in - even more classy!! What's the next step? Implantation? How long you stay out there?

Have an ice cream for all of us

Kiwi Good luck on the clomid. Me n Tetley also hang out on this clomid thread if you fancy a peek (sorry AF got you Tetley )

GonePS & Haraslou - like the sound of the "Ovulation Confusion Corner" - I've chucked in a few scatter cushions and biscuits we can nibble while we shrug our shoulders! This morning the acupuncturist asked me innocently "so do you think you've ovulated" - don't think she expected the 15 minute long answer!!

Good luck all x

Kiwikat here, have name changed for the moment. A colleague has recently joined MN and I don't want anyone in RL to know about all the private things that I discuss with you, my fellow fabulous 40+ers. My name's a bit of a giveaway as to who I am, so am thinking whether I should change it permanantly or not.

Am seriously impressed, Rowing. LOL at egg envy, Fruit - me too. Thanks for the invite to check out the clomid thread, will definitely come over for a look-see, as I really know nothing about Clomid, other than it encourages egg production. Von Suden, perhaps you can visit this new thread with me? Haraslou, I'm so glad you mentioned that your AF is doing this - mine has been doing this too since it returned when ds was about 9 months old- he's now nearly 3. I've been really concerned about it because - for those with weak stomachs, look away now - it's been very dark brown sometimes, and almost looks like it's mixed up with the ew. I've had various scans and things, and asked the doctor about it yesterday, and he said that it was nothing to worry about and that periods start to change as we get older. Like I need reminding of my age ...

How's everyone else? Had a happy, productive day? I've just got back from seeing Ultravox at the Roundhouse, and they were spectacular. Had to tell a very yappy woman to shut up during Vienna (I ignored her for a couple of songs, but she was talking about haircuts, and this was VIENNA for God's sake - sacrilege!) then she collapsed drunkenly on the floor and had to be taken outside by her boyfriend. Final song was The Voice, and it was WONDERFUL!!!! My ears are still ringing, and I'm bouncing from the ceiling, I'm still so excited.

fifitot · 01/05/2009 08:10

Well I read a great stat yesterday in an article about SJP having surrogate twins - loads of speculation as to why...but anyway it said that a fertility expert says that the likelihood of an egg of a 45 year old woman being fertilised and viable is less that 3%!!!!!! F**king hell! I didn't realise it was sooooooooo low.

However I know we ignore lies and stats on here so have chosen to ignore it. Anyhow 3 chances out of 100 isn't that bad is it? Good odds if you're a horse racing expert or something.......

fifitot · 01/05/2009 08:11

Actually wish I hadn't posted that. Don't want to bring anyone down. Sorry

rowingboat · 01/05/2009 13:31

Hi all,
Fifi are you suggesting SJP has had some kind of 'intervention'? It's funny how many celebs have twins isn't it, probably don't have time to bd!
Bigredpanda, this isn't another clue as to your identity is it? Just when I was getting used to you being a little birdy. Have you ever seen anyone you think you might know in RL on here?
I don't think I have yet...
Fruit, I had to inject some hormones to get those eggies, my tummy looks like a pin cushion. Mind you, they didn't really affect me, certainly less than PMT. I thought taking the pill had a stronger effect than the injectables.
The doc is going to phone us tomorrow to let us know whether we have to go over for the transfer tomorrow or we can wait until Monday. It all depends on how well the embryos are doing.
VSF hi [waves] hope you are feeling OK.
Haraslou I had a funny AF straight after another when I had a large cyst. The best way to get seen is to go to the doctors and tell them you have a sore tummy, they will probablty send you for a scan in case it is an ectopic.
Right off for a lie-down, still have a sore tummy and want to be as recovered as possible in case the embryo transfer is tomorrow.

dixie64 · 01/05/2009 13:50

Rowing that all sounds amazing - will keep my fingers firmly crossed for a successful transfer. Hope your tummy feels better really soon, just try to relax and keep eating the icecream

Had my first red wipe of doom yesterday so af will be flying in imminently Just don't know what to do now - think I'll lick my wounds for a few days then make my decision.

love and hugs, babydust and luck to you all
x

fifitot · 01/05/2009 20:08

Good luck rowing. x

BigRedPanda · 01/05/2009 23:13

Evening all! Fifi, you're right, those damn stats keep popping up, but I'm continuing to ignore them - or pretend to, at least. Fruit, the Iso Scope has arrived, and I'm looking forward to having a play with it - so is DH. How accurate are these things? Does anyone have any stories to share about them? Picked up the clomid from the chemist today - we're launching a serious attack on this conception thing. Well, I am. DH just does the bd thing and lets me obsess concentrate on everything else. Hold hands with me, Von Suden, and let's do this clomid thing together.

Sorry to hear that the witch has been visiting, Dixie and Tetley, and that your tummy is sore, Rowing.

Hope you're all enjoying your Friday nights.
