Thankyou for the lovely welcome Dawn and for sharing your experience. I've spent years avoiding getting pregnant like the plague so this is a kind of weird new time for me!!

Claire and Ozzie - looks like we may be testing at the same time if no AF - fingers crossed....

InTheMidnightGarden · 23/06/2009 13:59

Hello everyone.

May i join in?

I am TTC#1 again, after i had a MC back in Febuary . Me and DH started try again right away as didn't want to wait. We just hope it doesn't take as long this time round, it took us 10month last time. I am on CD24 of a 29day Cycle, so in the 2WW. This is our 5th Cycle now, of our 2nd attempt.

Hi there - phew i havent posted for two days and already we have ANOTHER three newbies - yippeee welcome jas claire and ITMG you are all very welcome as we 'were' low on TTCers but seem to have tipped the balance now. i came off the pill a few years ago and me and DH decided to use condoms which we were quite happy with, so by the time i came to TTC it only took me 6 months (sounds like ages but not a lot compared to some)

welcome back dawn Elesha is just beautiful! I love that you have shortened her name to Ellie, funnily enough i used to wish my mum had called me Ellie when i was little

MAF all i will say is munch away!! I ate like a pig when PG and didnt seem to put much weight on, though i might just have been lucky!

I also started really looking PG at about 15/16 weeks, it is fab buying maternity clothes, i am keeping all of mine for number two (yes we have even picked out a name for boy no 2!!!!!)

We took William to the eye hospital today, as I am blind in my left eye they wanted to check it out that it isnt hereditary. His sight is fine but he does have a little cataract in his left eye (same as mamma!) so we have to take him for regular check ups throughout his childhood, we are fairly upbeat about it as the way we see it - at least they are keeping him under observation and if he ever needs surgery then they can be quick off the mark. Poor little thing though! I had to breast feed him during the appointment just to keep him calm so the consultant could examine his eyes however at least it solved the problem as to how to feed him in the hospital!!

take care girlies and happy bonking!!

Hi All, not managed to get on for a few days.

Summerbird HUGE congrats you sound really happy

Dawn Nice to see you back and glad you and little Ellie are doing well.

Welcome to the newbies waves

Well i'm 15+4 today and had a midwife appointment this morning and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time, it was amazing and a big relief to know all is still ok. I am showing quite a bit now and people are begining to comment which is actually nice! I also thik i might have felt a few tiny movements this week which is exciting but i'm looking forward to feeling them more clearly. I'm absolutely loveing being pregnant now and am really enjoying planning for little ones arrival. Bought our first baby item the other day which was a sling from ebay one of the two i have chosen to buy and have a list we have drawn up of other things to buy so that we can look for the bargains over the next few months.

Hello to everyone else and MAF kep eating make the most of it while you can!! I haven't actually put on any weight at all but i'm HUGE which makes no sense at all!

summerbird · 24/06/2009 20:34

Hallo Fairy i know just that feeling when you hear the heartbeat for the first time, i almost cried!! I too didnt put weight on at first although i lost half a stone in the first trimester due to not drinking!! so maybe you have lost weight then gained it in baby bumpness?

We are starting to get a good routine going with William which is pretty good going for 9 days old!! He is sleeping at the moment but will soon be screaming for boobie milk so i had better love you and leave you for now.

Big waves to all our newbies, TTCers, preggy ladies and fellow mummies dawn and hever

Hello everyone

Dawn, as Jas said thankyou for the lovely welcome and for telling us your experience. I was sorry to hear of your mc, little Ellie is a cutie So it is possible to get PG straight away then! I'm trying hard not to get my hopes up too much, I can't believe I would be that lucky. The mural in Ellie's nursery is fantastic.

My symptoms are all still here but my nipples aren't quite as sensitive as they were.

Welcome to InTheMidnightGarden, there's a few newbies amongst us now You seem to be at a similar stage in your cycle as a number of us, we're all going to be testing around the same time, how's that for support

summerbird, it's good to hear you being so positive about Williams cataract, you're absolutely right, as the medics are aware of your condition they will keep a good eye on him (pun intended ) and they will be able to act fast if there are any problems. I hope you don't mind me asking but have you always been blind in one eye, or did it develop over time.

fairywing, it must of been wonderful to hear the heartbeat , I can't imagine what that will be like. It's great that you are enjoying being PG. I've also been looking on ebay (at bit early I know) I think we'll end up getting a lot of stuff off of there, you really can pick up a bargain!

Jas, It's weird isn't it actually trying to get PG after all these years of trying not to

DH has just gone to get us a take-away for dinner, I really fancied something from our local Indian take-away, it could be a craving but I used to get it before we were TTC too!

summerbird · 24/06/2009 20:43

claire i too giggle at that pun, i keep saying it too. And yes i have always been blind in my left eye, i too had a cataract when i was born but unlike William it took them 6 months to notice it (well we are talking 1973 here!) so that is why i told the paediatrician in the hospital, thankfully he got an immediate referral and it was spotted early. The blindness has never hindered me (i can drive and am crap at tennis etc) so even if the worst happens and it affects his sight i can reassure him he will be fine.

So TTCers - who is the next one due to test/dreaded AF??? I want some excitement and anticipation!

OP posts:
claireinthecommunity · 24/06/2009 22:13

Well summerbird as this is my first cycle since coming off the pill, I'm not sure how long my period is due to be. Based on a 28 day cycle I would be due a visit from AF starting next Thursday, the 1st July. I was thinking of delaying the testing till the following week though, to allow for a longer cycle, that is if AF hasn't already come to stay for a while!

I'm not so sure now if I will be able to wait that long

claireinthecommunity · 24/06/2009 22:26

Oh meant to say summerbird , good on you for letting the paediatrician in the hospital know and getting them on the case so early. Yes you'll be able to reassure William if need be and the fact that you aren't hindered by your blind eye, will be reassurance in itself for him

Ozziegirly · 25/06/2009 04:55

Well i'm due to test on Sunday 5 July - but we're away that weekend so if AF doesn't arrive it'll be Tuesday the 7th!

But I have to say, I have not a single symptom, I don't feel any different at all so I'm certainly not hopeful.

Good luck to the rest of you though.

JasHook · 25/06/2009 09:12

I think you and I are in the same boat Ozzie - same dates practically and I feel absolutely normal! (except for the mad obsessing over every single "could be pregnant" moment - there's the anticipation summerbird !!)

Well, there's always next month....

Ozziegirly · 25/06/2009 09:23

Oh god yes I am madly obsessing too.

I am shattered today, totally crushingly tired, but then I did an exam this morning and had an afternoon of training so I'm sure I would be under normal circumstances!

My mum said she had the funny taste in her mouth and that was her main "symptom" so I have been looking out for that - but nothing.

I can't believe I have to wait over a week yet.

Will keep fingers crossed for you. Presumably not everyone has symptoms or else you wouldn't get all these "I gave birth when I thought it was just indigestion" stories....

CurlyCasper · 25/06/2009 09:39

New girl here. DH and I have just decided to take the plunge into parenthood. On regular meds so have to stop for three months before TTC - planning to stop from next week. Already off the pill anyway.

Does anyone have any advice for someone literally at the very start of this amazing journey?

summerbird · 25/06/2009 09:59

ozzie the month i got my BFP i was convinced i wasnt PG, in fact it was the first cycle in 7 that i didnt bother symptom spotting as i felt normal!!!!!

welcome curlycasper we love newbies on here! my only advice would be to get BDing and even more so towards the middle of your cycle, which should be circa CD12-16 if you are on a regular one. And most of all good luck!!

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 25/06/2009 10:05

Thanks Summerbird - unfortunately can't start the proper BD'ing for a few months (no harm in practice though!)till meds out of system. Guessing I won't know true cycle till then anyway having been regulated by the pill for so long.

Looks like I have so much to learn - just been reading through the forums and don't understand half of the abbreviations, or even what the longhand means. Think I have some serious research to do!

Good luck all x

Ozziegirly · 25/06/2009 11:03

Thanks summerbird, that's quite reassuring actually!

And welcome Curly Casper. I mentioned to my Dr that I was thinking of TTC and she did a blood work up on me and tested to see if I was immune to measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox and then I had the MMR and chicken pox vaccine.

Plus I had a general check up and it was nice to know that I had a clean bill of health before I started to TTC. I had a wait too, but because I had only just started a new job.

I quite liked easing into it!

PLus it gives you a chance to start taking folic acid as well.

Good luck with the practising

InTheMidnightGarden · 25/06/2009 11:37

Morning ladies.

ThankQ for the welcomes.

Summerbird: William look absolutly adorable. Glad the eye check went well. Yay for your routine.
Well i am TTC#1 this is our second go at trying after i had a MC in Feb. This is our 5th Cycle this time round, last time it took 8Cycles. I am on CD26, and my AF is due on Sunday. So if AF hasn't shown up i will test on the 5th July. Unlike Ozzie and Jas i can't seem to stop symptom spotting, i seem to have quite a few symptoms, but of course i could be imaganing most of them.

Curly: Welcome. What CD are you on?

Ozzie: What type of folic acid are you taking? What is the brand name?
I am taking pregnacare's conception tablets atm, then after we have been trying for 6 month we are going to start taking FertileAid again because it worked last time.

CurlyCasper · 25/06/2009 13:16

Thanks Ozzie and ITMG

Booked in with GP for July 14, might need to see rheumatologist too (Rheumatoid Arthritis since age 16) but going to try to go drug free from next week anyway.

Plus side of that is that I've been on a high weekly dose of folic acid for years (You have to take it alongside Methotrexate)but I'll be switching to a daily dose when off the meds(bought a combination at supermarketlast night - name fails me though)

as for the CD, I'm at 13. Does everyone put a heavy focus on CD etc, or do some just keep on BDing and see what happens?

BTW, I would love to hear any other stories from those who are or previously were on long-term meds.

CC x

CurlyCasper · 25/06/2009 13:29

Oh summerbird, William is adorable! (I want one!)

I've just been using my lunch break to have a good read through and get to know all the lovely ladies (no men found so far!) on the thread.

You all sound so positive and supportive. I think my biggest problem now will be staying away from here long enough to get some work done!

claireinthecommunity · 25/06/2009 13:41

Hello all,

Ozzie and Jas most of my symptoms seemed to have decreased a bit now, or maybe I've just got used to them! Oh I don't know, as ITMG said, maybe I'm just imagining them all

Welcome to Curly, I also needed to wait to start TTC for three or four months for various reasons. I will say that for me the time did go by fairly
fast and it gave me something to look forward to. It will give you time to mooch around mumsnet and get yourself familiar with the whole subject of baby. If there are any abbreviations you don't understand just ask, we've all been there! I'm just taking a folic acid supplement that I bought from Tesco, It's their own brand within their women's health brand (in the same aisle as headache tablets etc) They cost under £2 for a tub of 120, so they will keep you going for four months.

claireinthecommunity · 25/06/2009 13:51

Oh Curly I thought you meant you hadn't got any folic acid yet and wanted some suggestions on which ones to get , you posted while I was compiling my post! The thread is busy today, I like it but am a little slow at typing so can get a little behind, if you are all on the thread too I am taking other medication for a condition I've suffered with from a teenager, I'll pop on later (probably this evening) and post about it, haven't got that much time just now - it could take some time to put it all down!

summerbird · 25/06/2009 14:00

claire is right this thread is busy now, I like it!! I need to keep jumping on just to bump it up so i dont have too much to read on my rare moments of peace!

off to feed from the boobie!

oh and MAF no sparkly hair clip but the mascara is there!!!

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 25/06/2009 14:01

Thanks Claire, I'd appreciate reading what you have to say. I'll try to get back on this evening. Lunch break over - time to work now! ta ta

InTheMidnightGarden · 25/06/2009 15:02

Afternoon ladies.

Curly: Hope you get off the meds soon so you get your BFP. I (me and DH) tend to BD every other night, then every night from CD11-14, then miss a day, then one for good luck, then we some times have one or two happy accidents during the 2WW.

ooo symptoms, symptoms, symptoms... let me see... well...

  • Nausea and queasiness when i think about food and when i go to get any and after eating (well apart from Chinese food that is all that seems appatising atm).
  • Light headed.
  • Constipated / gassy.
  • Fequent urination (well more than normal).
  • In some way i just feel pregnant.
  • My breats seem larger, and are more sensitive.
  • Irritability when have nothing to do.
  • Bloating.
but like i said most of them could be imagined.
