I am 31, i am a smoker, non vegetarian, weigh nearly 8stone
dh is 32, non smoker, non vegetarian, his sperms are not extremly high in numbers but sufficient enough

iui explained

bubbly - congratulations on the fantastic news! DD was conceived via IUI on the 4th try. I used a combination of clomid and puregon. I know exactly what you've been through!

I'm thrilled for you, and was thinking only today (yet again!), how very lucky I am to have my lovely dd. I know you will feel the same when your little one has arrived.

ionaming · 30/11/2005 10:04

Bubbly1973?.........I have had two attempts of IUI (July and August 2005). I'm going for a third attempt in Feb and am now worried that have left it too long since my last attempt. When reading your diary I noticed you had a month or so break in between attempts. For me it will be 4 or 5 months and am now worried that I've blown it. what do you think. Have read up on iui and doesn't mention anywhere whether any breaks between cycles makes any difference in the success rate.

bubbly1973 · 15/01/2006 20:26

dizzy im so sorry i havent got back to you sooner, ds is bugging me at the moment, soon as i have five minutes i shall post properly

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 15/01/2006 21:23

hiya dizzy, this isnt a professional point of view just mine..

firstly it wasnt by choice to have a months break in between cycles, the hospital like you to take a months break to give your body a chance to get back to 'normal'

i personally wanted to get the 3 go's done rather than wait a good few months but in saying that when you think about it, it is possible to still have the first one work because when i was trying to conceive with my ds the first treatment worked (even though i had a miscarriage, it did work)

so in effect its almost like you are having your first treatment again..which could work

on the other hand, you could think that because i did mine every other month, my body responded better as time went on

i dont think you can ever really say, you will never know if your third treatment would have worked if you did it straight after the 2nd, then again had you done that and it didnt work you would always wonder if you could have gotten pregnant if you gave yourself a few months break..

..just like i will never know if i tried the 'puregon' rather than the 'menopur' on my first attempt would i have gotten pregnant? every woman and every cycle is so so different theres no way of telling, dont beat yourself up about the choice you have made, theres always a reason behind what we do, i do belive in fate

i wish you all the very very best, let me know how you get on, its such a trying time and a roller coaster of emotions, good luck

hiya bubbly. Well, had my insemination on saturday and to be honest am thinking its not worked again. this is my 3rd attempt, the 1st time had sore boobs couple of days later, 2nd attempt no sore boobs at all. This time boobs started getting sore on saturday (B4 I even had the iui!) and since yesterday got that tender/heavy feeling that normally get few days before AF. Don't know what to think.

I read that you had 3 large follicles on 3rd attempt prior to hcg which would result in 3 eggs being released and in turn increase the chances of conception. I had one big follicle at day 12 and 1 slightly smaller that they said was unlikely to grow enough b4 ovulation. So in effect I had one egg. I had a 'good' feeling after the iui (i thought maybe 3rd time lucky) but the sore boobs has me confused particularly since started on sat morning.

I'm 38 in a few months and I have conceived naturally twice b4 (2nd was a m/c) and drs told me I was a good candidate for iui because of this. just don't know what to think. Told dh about the sore boobs and he just came across as really disappointed which is not what I wanted to hear since was already feeling that way myself. just have to try and not get stressed I suppose and keep mind open for disappointment until know for sure.

HenniPenni · 13/02/2006 15:15

Wow, Bubbly-how on earth did I miss this!! congrats and so very pleased for you.

HenniPenni (kcemum)

bubbly1973 · 13/02/2006 22:03

hey hennipenni..new name!! i didnt realise you changed names, is your new name to do with something from the story chicken licken? i bet i got it completly wrong and have made a tit of myself
anyway, im glad you found this thread again, you were one of the ladies who supported me right the way through with your kind words, so thanks

dizzy36 please try not to read too much into your symptons and i know thats easier said than done,
i also had sore boobs a bit before insemination and i will always remember i thought 'oo i could be pregnant'...then i realised that was impossible as we hadnt done the insemination yet!

all the drugs we pump in us makes our body so different each time im sure.

am i right in thinking you only just did the insemination (11Feb)...if so, its really too early to read anything into your symptons, so dont be too disheartened too soon.

i know its so so hard not to read into every cramp, mood, body change, but its too soon if you only just had your insemination, you will drive yourself into despair so try to relax and think positive

dont think of the negative side to having 1 egg, think of positives, remember i had 3 eggs yes, but it does only take one egg to fertilise, thearetically speaking(sp?)i could have had 10 eggs, but 9 of them could have been rubbish, so really i would only have one egg...hope you get where im coming from with that example!

i wish you all the luck and hope you get the bfp really soon, please keep intouch and let me know the outcome, and i hope i havent sounded like a miss knowitall or patronising, i just dont want for you to have bad thoughts on the first week of the two week wait, its far too soon for that.

take care

Hi Bubbly
Your story has given me some hope.... thank you so much for doing your iui diary, which has been really helpful and interesting .....

I am still feeling v despondent about this whole ttc thing. Am on 1st cycle of IUI at the moment (day 10) and have just got it into my head that it isn't going to work- and haven't even had insemnination yet. Somehow, I have just got this feeling that it's never going to happen for me. and it is such an awful feeling.

Am on purefon, which has made me feel like crap. very mooody and down. did you have any similar symptoms on purefon?

I know I should be cutting our caffeine and alcohol, but still having a little (not too much) - did you cut this out altogether?

sorry about all these questions ...

bubbly1973 · 14/02/2006 11:46

hiya madigan,

i know exactly how you feel about feeling down and thinking it isnt going to work for you, i felt like that the first time i tried to conceive with my little boy about 4 years ago. i couldnt see me being a mother so when i did get pg i just couldnt believe it, even when i was carrying him for 9mths i thought something might happen to take him away....and here he is 3andhalf years old and very much real...so its perfectly natural to feel like the way you are

also i think sometimes we make ourself believe that it wont happen to us ready to cushion any dissapointment on the way...but unfortunatly the blow is still hard when things dont work out the way we want.

no i didnt cut out on caffeine or alcohol, but to be honest i never drank much alchohol anyway, however my downfall was smoking, try as i might i just could not give it up!...on our very last go i gave up on day of insemination, i also took pregnacare and ate a little bit healthier (not much more healthier to be honest)...i supose i did reduce my intake on caffiene slightly after insemination but again, not much more than before

do you mean puregon or did you mean to say purefon?...if purefon, ive not heard of that drug, but on puregon i also on menopur i was the bitch from hell, but i wonder if its the drugs making us like that or the whole ttc journey on iui...or both.

i think you have to keep telling yourself that your chances of having a baby are higher this month cos of iui and try to be as positive as you can, which is so hard i know, but it is better for the body to be positive so please try.

you will have plenty of time to think it hasnt worked on the last week of the 2 week wait...thats when i found i was the worst...very negative indeed!

how many eggs are growing and how many big ones are there...when do you go for your next scan?...you should be inseminated soon i take it?

please keep intouch, and let me know how you get on, and good luck,

OP posts:
Madigan · 14/02/2006 12:06

hi bubbly
yes, it's puregon!
my next scan is tomorrow morning (day 11) and then I have another scan booked for Thurs, when they way they are going to give me an injection to trigger ovulation (?) and then hopefully the insemination will take place on Friday (day 13).
I have only had one scan so far - on day 3 and that just showed that everything was ok at that stage.
Don't know what to expect from scan tomorrow?
Did you BD around ovulation as well? or did you just rely on the IUI?
Thank you so much for your advice and support
Madigan

bubbly1973 · 14/02/2006 14:00

madigan, when you go for your scan tomorrow, they will be able to see how big the eggs are growing, and how many are the biggest...ideally (if my memory serves be correct) they should be 19mm or above for them to be ripe enough, you may have some about 13mm or so (im guessing)..

so dont worry about tomorrow, and remember that everyones different, and eggs grow different sizes too. you may have one big one outgrowing the rest, or you may have 2 or even 3

we chose not to bd right throughout the whole treatment, but thats purely personal choice, in my head i had it that i wanted it all clear up there, non of dhs old sperms clogging anything up, and no dislodging of any conception after insemination...whether that matters or not i dont know but it made me feel better making that chose...

however you may feel better bd'ing thinking that you want extra sperms swimming up there...like i say personal choice and what makes you feel happy.

good luck for tomrorow let me know how the scan went.

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 14/02/2006 14:05

eek, i dont think my message come across as it should have...let me rephrase the first paragraph..

ideally they are ready to insemination when eggs reach 19mm or above..however tomorrow i would expect eggs to be much smaller than that, but hopefully by the end of the week they will have grown nearer to the 19mm mark

the way i posted it sounded like i was saying they should be 19mm but yours will be 13mm and thats not what i meant..

OP posts:
Madigan · 14/02/2006 18:28

I didn't read it that way! I knew what you meant! Thanks for all advice.... will let you know how I get on tomorrow.

dizzy36 · 14/02/2006 20:01

thanks bubbly. appreciate what you say. will know either way week on Saturday so just have to see.

my very best wishes to everyone on IUI this month.

so nice to hear other peoples experiences and your diary bubbly has been especially helpful...thanks

dizzy36 · 14/02/2006 20:05

p.s. to hopefully help things along, since new year I have cut out drink, fags (gave up couple of years ago) tea, coffee, drink 3 litres of water a day, and have been having accupuncture for last 4 months and been on pregnacare for couple of years. If this lot doesn't make it work it must be down to pure luck of the draw thats all I can say!!

dizzy36 · 14/02/2006 20:11

pps for madigan. we bd 4 days before the iui so dh had 3 and a half days to 'save up'. Hospital like to have at least 3 days. we also bd pm on day of iui just to be sure as I've read that the 'washed' sperm only last about 6 hours.
