Oh Coggy, I am so sorry to hear about your DS. I just can't imagine how terrible that must have been.

This is my third IUI - I promise that it is not as scary as it sounds. Do you know whether you or your DP/DH have any underlying problems - have you had all the usual tests etc?

I know what you mean re an epic journey. Sometimes I think "Oh it will happen", but in my low moments I do think maybe DH and I are one of those couples for whom it will never happen. If someone could just tell me now one way or the other, it would save so much heartache.

Have you had any thoughts about where to have your IUI?

coggy · 04/10/2006 12:19

I have a short Luteal Phase which has improved on clomid but I think it will only be affected by the drugs.

As far as all NHS tests show....everything else is normal although I am ALWAYS border-line thyroid!! Never higher or lower....just border-line!

Are you having all the daily jabs for IUI?

How many cycles are you having?
And are you NHS?

Sorry....lots of questions there!!

coggy · 04/10/2006 12:20

Ooops sorry! Just re-read and you said about having to go down the IVF route next month if necessary...........let's hope that it's not eh?

Madigan · 04/10/2006 13:09

Hi Coggy
This is the 3rd IUI. Previous 2 were medicated (lots of jabs) - this one is natural, but I know I ovulated. Taking progesterone during the 2ww.
I am not NHS.
Yes, it would be lovely to avoid IVF - it would be absolutely fantastic,
but it's got to the stage now where I think it will be a miracle if I ever get pg.!!!
Do you mind me asking how old you are? i am 34 and DH 36.

coggy · 04/10/2006 13:19

I think I may need progesterone for my 2WW to make it longer....naturally it's only 8dpo!!!

I'm just 35...so I have had a wobble about that as it's such a significant fertility age!!!

My DH is nearly 35....so a slight toy-boy here!!

I am not looking forward to the injections but...as the months go by....I am getting more and more determined to get my goal and beginning to think that I will do anything I need to!!!

Madigan · 04/10/2006 13:58

Hi Coggy -
I am nearly 35 - and I know what you mean about 35 being a "significant" age. I have it in my mind that I HAVE to be pg by 35, which is adding unnecessary stress on me .... loads of people have babies after 35. My aunt just had one (her 5th) at 44 !!!
Unless you have a real phobia about needles, then I would not worry too much about the injections. They really are fairly painless (a tiny tiny needle) and you will soon get very used to it and it won't bother you. promise.
Although - I have got to the stage where I would willingly inject myself with big fat needles 10 times a day if only something would work .......
Why are you leaving the IUI until after Christmas?
lets hope that we both get our BFPs soon. all fingers crossed.

coggy · 04/10/2006 14:18

I feel like I need to get my head round it all still.
I also need to do some further/repeat tests for the fertility clinic this month and want to try ttc for at least a month after taking clomid (this is how I fell pg with DS so I am secretly hoping that it may happen this time again.....)

Christmas is also the most stressful and busy time at work for me.....and I want to be as relaxed and stress-free as possible for IUI.

I suppose....when you analyse it all...I just want to give myself another couple of months trying naturally...it has happened before and I am (stupidly?) clinging onto the hope that I won't have to have any further treatment.

Madigan · 04/10/2006 16:58

it's not stupid at all!! There must be every chance that it will happen naturally, since it did before. Anyway, if it doesn't, its really sensible to do the IUI at as stress-free a time as possible.
Are you doing anything diet-wise etc. I have, for the first time this cycle, now cut out all alcohol and caffeine. V hard ...... for years now I have managed to convince myself that a glass of wine every day can't hurt (and considerably more at the weekends ) - but the more I read about it, the more I thought I just have to cut it all out so as to give this IUI (and the IVF ) the best possible chance. What do you think? does it make a difference????

coggy · 04/10/2006 21:56

I sometimes am really good with the alcohol in the 2WW and sometimes rubbish.

The problem is....when you've been ttc for such a long time....you just get fed up with all the good intentions don't you?

If I had carried on as I started out then I would be stick-thin and super healthy by now!!
I began by having organic fruit and veg, a lot less alcohol, went to a personal trainer to get fitter etc. etc. Now I am just random about it BUT I do think that if you are having to go down a more 'involved' ttc route, like we are, then it is the most sensible thing to do to cut down on caffine/alcohol etc. etc.

It's got to help your body a bit hasn't it.
I think if your body isn't having to deal with extra stesses and strains then it can concentrate on getting pg!
If you have lots of toxins etc, in your body then I suppose fertilising and implanting an egg isn't going to be a priority for your body.

Does that make sense??

Having said all that.......it constantly amazes me how so many people who abuse alcohol/drugs can still get pg and have beautiful healthy babies!!!
Life is weird........and often unfair!

Waffle over!

Madigan · 05/10/2006 14:01

I agree with everything you say .... it is difficult when you have been ttc as long as us, but it had got to help.

The one thing which I have been a bit confused about is the question of exercise. I did quite a bit of gymwork/training, thinking it would be doing me good. But had a consultation with Zita West and she told me that I should not be doing any exercise apart from gentle walking .... so am doing that now ... which is ok, but I'm not eating any less so have put on weight (which does depress me). Although, obviously, if it works - then it will be so worth it.

On day 6 of 2 ww..... its going soooo slowly.

coggy · 05/10/2006 16:40

Was Zita good?

My Mum said that she would pay for us to go and have a consultantion with her if we like as I have read her books and I am quite impressed by her.

I am um-ing and ah-ing about starting running again.....like I said before...you can't keep putting things of but I don't want to do any damage!
I think I may go to the local beginners club for three weeks out of the four each month.
I'll leave off around implanation time and in the week after.
What do you think?

I was running on a treadmill when first pg with DS as I didn't expect to get pg by that time!!!

Madigan · 05/10/2006 16:53

Hi Coggy

Yes Zita was good, and it was definitely worth seeing her. I felt I had "information overload" after reading her books, and really wanted to see her to sort out what I should be concentrating on (acupuncture/diet) and what I did not really need to get into (loads of different supplements, hypnotherapy, chinese herbs ... to name but a few!)

Have you tried acupuncture? She really recommends it. I have read so much now about acupuncture helping fertility that I am going for weekly sessions (my 3rd session is in about 30 mins time!!)

Re exercise - that would be something to ask Zita about. I think it must make sense to avoid strenous exercise around ovulation and implantation time (although this is the 1st month that I have done that....). I can't think it would make much difference before ovulation.

Do you live in/near London then? and have you decided which clinic to go to for IUI?

coggy · 05/10/2006 16:58

I'm actually out in the sticks in the WestCountry but my folks live near Oxford where she holds a clinic also.

I am having my IUI down in my regional NHS hospital which is also the main SW fertility clinic.
I'm NHS so assume I have no real choice in the matter...........it's rather a long drive to get to but anywhere else would be even further!!!

I had weekly accupunture for about 3 months after having my DS....my cycles went to a regular 27/28 days but no luck with the ttc and then it got rather expensive.
I may go back to it with the IUI at the same time though.

It made my tongue tingle often!!!
Enjoy yours this afternoon.

Madigan · 05/10/2006 18:53

Acupuncture this evening went well... feel v relaxed now............ speak to you tomorrow XX

Natty1806 · 06/10/2006 07:05

Sorry to but in coggy where abouts do your parents live? As i am near Oxford.

Wishing you both all the best as always. x

Madigan · 06/10/2006 08:22

good morning coggy
just re-reading your post yesterday. how long are your cycles normally, when not havinf acupuncture?

coggy · 06/10/2006 11:02

Well they were never what I would call irregular.
Between 26 and 32 days.
After accupunture they went to 27/28 BUT it was also after giving birth so I can't say for definite that that wouldn't have happened anyway.

Natty my family are in Bucks....only about 20 minutes away from Oxford but I know it fairly well as my best friend had always lived there and now she's in Witney.

coggy · 06/10/2006 11:03

Natty......20 miles I meant!!

Natty1806 · 06/10/2006 11:24

Aahhh i live in between Aylesbury, Bucks and Oxford and sometimes work in Witney.

Small world.

coggy · 06/10/2006 12:37

Aha! Wierd eh?

Well...when we have our babes (eventually) we'll have to get together for a coffee in Witney and compare birth stories!!!

Madigan · 06/10/2006 12:50

Coggy
I used to have 26 day cycles as well, is that considered v short/unusual?

Natty1806 · 06/10/2006 13:04

Absoultly

Madigan · 06/10/2006 14:35

Oh. was not aware of that. No-one ever told me !!! Thought that 26 days was fine!

coggy · 06/10/2006 23:22

Madigan...I think Natty may have been answering me and my 'meet-up' comment rather than your 26 day cycle?????

I thought that I used to be fairly regular with b't'n 26 and 32 days...but one of the nurses at the fertility clinic said that that was irregular!!!

I don't belive her!!
After reading on here that people have 40+ days I think that a 26 day cycle is absolutely fine.
Don't worry!!!
X

Madigan · 07/10/2006 17:36

Ooops - think she was answering you rather than me!!
I did not think 26 day cycle was irregular ,,, certainly no-one has said so to me during my numerous fertility tests/consultations etc! I am now at 28/29 day cycles. Don't know why it suddenly increased.
Day 8 today of 2ww. still going slowly.
how are you?
