Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

Hello, can I join in?

I need another outlet before I drive my DH mad. We agreed to start ttc in early December, but then as soon as we finally set a real date I was swept away on a wave of broodiness and started thinking 'Well, if December is ok, why not November...or...October?!' and I think I've scared him. He's probably wondering where his wife went

What's worse is that I've always been adamant that I didn't want a summer baby. I mean, really against it (saw how it affected my sister). If I got pregnant today I'd be due in July. And yet I'm desperate.

It's nice to have a safe space to say that

Pidgin · 02/11/2009 20:33

welcome Kawaiiko!

It is indeed a relief to share the desperation with others. I think my husband might think I'm mad too. (To be fair, I am reading 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' on the tube, slightly hidden inside my bag in case I see anyone I know, o he has a point.) Anyway, it helps to come on here and let off some steam!

Is it just me or are there pregnant women everywhere? I saw at least four on my journey home today ... either the broodometer is high or they are following me round for some reason.

It's starting to feel like quite a few people are planning to start Dec/ Jan, is that right? How's everyone else doing?

OneLonelySock · 03/11/2009 07:53

Waves hello at Kawaiiko Good going on the worrying the husband thing! I keep on telling my DH: "oh, it takes an average of three months to get pregnant, then nine months to actually pop out, so that gives us almost a year to move house and get ready - so sod February, lets start now!"
And I think he was kind of getting pursuaded, until one of his work mates in a similar situation turned up one day in a panic going: "She said it would take forever! What happened there? I'm not ready!"
shakes fist and curses the un-named woman with the speedy ovaries
Well to all of us, here's hoping that we're as fertile when we're ready and hot to go.

I don't think it's you imagining things MrsP, apparently we've got a mini baby boom on our hands due to the credit crunch - I guess here in this thread we'll all just stroll along pregnant next year in a fashionably late manner.

bebejones · 03/11/2009 09:56

Do not fall into the trap of it taking average of 3months to get up duffed! That is what we thought and I was PG with DD after having sex only 3 times! Not good timing at all. Found out 2 weeks before our wedding and then couldn't eat loads of the food or drink and booze and no one knew why!

Waving at all newbies let of steam here it's what it's for! Am so with you all on everyone being pregnant, do these people not have televisions?!?! (I'm just jealous really coz #2 keeps being delayed!)

OneLonelySock · 03/11/2009 10:24

I'm sure hoping its not going to take 3 months at all and I'm hoping that me and DH have super fertility! One shot + nine months = yay

Just trying to convince DH there's no need to wait Oooh, bad wedding timing though, seriously not even one little drink?

Maybe there was nothing exciting on the telly six months ago, or was it the raunchy tudors? blame the BBC!

jennimoo · 03/11/2009 10:53

I'm also secretly reading What To Expect and have the iPhone app on my phone. I've even put in my predicted last period date and so it's giving me a due date!
My mum is visiting this weekend so everything needs hiding: books, supplements, ovulation predictor sticks!! She keeps talking about baby things, and I keep making out I'm not interested in babies to throw her off the scent, as I'm not ready for that pressure. Last week she was wanting to buy that rattle pooh toy as it is!
Nice to let off steam, and sounds like lots of us will need a 'ttc after waiting to ttc' thread soon!

bebejones · 03/11/2009 11:18

I had half a glass of bucks fizz and a sip of champagne during the speeches and gave the rest to my chief bridesmaid (who I had secretly told). I was so convinced we would still be TTCing 6 months later I never in a million years thought it would happen so quick. I wanted a baby so much and we thought it would be ages so didn't see the harm in TTC so close to the wedding! Bet it takes ages next time!

Jennimoo - I keep trying to do EDD based on when AF 'might' arrive, and not even TTC til next May/June!! My mum has told me that I should be stepping up efforts and getting pregnant now!

jennimoo · 03/11/2009 12:55

Phew, glad I'm not the only one with estimated EDD (EEDD?) ;)

OneLonelySock · 03/11/2009 13:25

feels like she's been missing out, so trys to work out EDD on fingers

Yay! Hugs to both of you! You've just given me another reason to pursade DH to do the fatherly thing quicker, otherwise it's going to be close to his birthday! I might have to work this out more precisely.

bebejones · 03/11/2009 14:19

I have carefully been plotting to avoid certain people's Birhdays and 'heavy' event months! Tricky this EEDD plotting lark!

Pidgin · 03/11/2009 18:24

I have an EEDD too! Currently 6 October 2010, although my periods still vary a little so who knows. Can't believe I just wrote 'my periods still vary a little so who knows' as if that's the only factor that could affect my EEDD... There are many reasons why that's an uncertain piece of information!

OK, here's a question for everyone, which I might have asked before - what supplements are you taking/ will you take when TTC? Am already popping the Pregnacare "just in case" ... just interested what others are planning, but ignore me if I've asked about this before!

bebejones · 03/11/2009 18:55

My EEDD is 4th March 2011 (unless I can convince DH otherwise) but like you Pidgin is only a rough estimation as AF is a bit wobbly!!

Last time with DD I had started taking Pregnacare 1month before we conceived her (Like I said before I didn't think it would be that quick). I also made sure I had as balanced a diet as possible & made a real effort to do my 5-a-day. I don't drink tea or coffee but also cut out any caffinated drinks (don't know why, just thought it would be a good thing to do). This is pretty much what I am planning to do this time, although will be taking the Pregnacare earlier. I am currently on prescribed folic acid tablets so think I will have to be quite careful to keep my levels up!

bebejones · 03/11/2009 18:56

Oh and I want to lose 2 stone before I get PG this time!

jennimoo · 03/11/2009 19:30

I've been taking the santogen mother to be supplements. I bought them on 3 for 2 in boots and they weren't much more to get the double pack with father to be ones too!

jennimoo · 03/11/2009 19:32

And my EEDD is 23rd sept!

bebejones · 03/11/2009 20:35

September baby would be great...oldest in the year at school! Father-to-be supplements sound great, may have to get those for DH make sure his swimmers are top quality!!

Kawaiiko · 03/11/2009 20:51

about the pregnant ladies everywhere.

I am just moving in to provide maternity leave cover at work and fatherhood is imminent for two males colleagues! Grr. Still, maybe her old seat will be lucky?!

I am just taking a standard multivitamin plus extra folic acid at the moment. Should I be taking a specialist supplement? Seems like lots of people here favour Pregnacare?

I tried to get dh to believe that there was no way in hell that we would get pregnant the first month of trying...but I think he saw the crossed fingers behind my back. Mm, and the copy of Hypnobirthing in my handbag?!

Lol at Pidgin and jennimoo...I've been reading all sorts on the tube too, trying to hide the covers and feeling really self-conscious when someone sits right next to me! It feels especially frowned upon during the morning commute

OneLonelySock · 03/11/2009 21:43

Must...get...baby...books...

As I'm sadly lacking in baby facts and have
no actual idea how to work out EDD. Nine period cycles??!? I'm guessing that would mean I'd be aiming for 3rd oct I think.

You guys are making me feel very under commited to the whole broody, baby needing thing! I'm too much of a wuss to buy a book as I'd be too scared of someone seeing me.

Got the pregnacare thing happily wrapped up, although if the sanatogen are cheaper I might give them a try? Do you remeber if they expensive? (And are they veggie suitable?)

bebejones · 03/11/2009 22:19

Onelonelysock - to work out EDD you take the 1st day of your last AF and go on 40 weeks from there. So to work out when you might have baby, if say you were starting in Jan, work out when your last AF is due before you start TTC (based on usual cycle length usually assumed to be 28 days) then plus 40 weeks. Example: if your last AF is due 5th Jan your EDD would be 12th Oct, assuming you fell pregnant that cycle obviously! Does that make sense?!

Re vitamins: I'm not sure if pregnacare are veggie suitable and from memory they are more expensive than the sanatogen.

OneLonelySock · 03/11/2009 22:34

Yay and thanks BebeJ! - I'd be looking at Nov 7th!!!

Sure hope pregnacare is veggie! it seems to think it is see waves packet in the direction of the monitor. But they sure are ludicrously expensive.

bebejones · 04/11/2009 09:15

Novemeber is a great time for birthdays (mine is the 8th )!! Checked the box of pregnacare and it does reckon it's veggie. Pregnacare conception tablets are a little tiny bit more than the Sanatogen ones according to boots website, but I don't think there is masses in it, talking pennies really!

My EEDD keeps changing every months as I keep re working it out based on cycle length for that month! It's becoming an obsession, this cannot be healthy?!

Verso · 04/11/2009 09:45

November is an excellent time for a baby indeed - my DD2's birthday is in November . You're all very (I hate this word but will use it anyway, excuse me) proactive, with your book-reading and supplement-taking. Mind you, I can talk as I've gone back to temping the past few months .

Agree it doesn't always take ages to conceive. With my DD1 we decided to start trying. Month #1, I temped and we tried to time things, but didn't work. Month #2 (yes, really) it worked!

On the supplement front I took folic acid while TTC both of mine (and - sadly - for my two that were not to be) - and then low-dose aspirin prescribed by a consultant after I'd had the two mc's, before I had DD2.

Sorry, don't mean to bring the thread down! Am feeling sorry for self today as have suspected swine flu (yes really) and am achy and feeble. Bit better that yday though.

kawaiiko standard multivits are fine when TTC but remember to switch to a pregnancy one when you do finally get pregnant. Normal multivitamins can have too much vitamin A in them.

LittleB · 04/11/2009 13:57

Hi can I join this thread?! I'm really broody, dd 4.6 has just started school and I'm missing my time with her, so now desperately broody. But I've just had an severly abnormal smear, although a colposcopy looked normal, so can't TTC yet, I should hear tomorrow or Friday what treatment they want to give me, I'm worried that the treatment could affect my fertility, or they'll keep telling me to wait and not TTC yet. I had an abnormal smear and colposcopy and biopsies back in March and they were hoping this would've done the trick but it hasn't worked. I'm trying not to worry about it, and focus on nice things - so I keep thinking about babies - which also makes me worry that we won't be able to have another. I shouldn't have left it so long before we wanted to TTC again. At heart I am an optimist though so I hope it will all turn out ok, I just need to be patient. I'm already taking pregnacare conception (1/3 off in Waitrose for 30 pack), in case they say I can start TTC and trying to eat really healthily and get fitter, loose a bit of weight so I'm well prepared - just worried and impatient!

bebejones · 04/11/2009 14:49

Welcome LittleB, so sorry that things are not good at the moment. Have got fingers crossed for you. I keep having to remind myself that I am not well enough at the moment to have another baby and it is SO tough so I really feel for you. Hope that they get you sorted out soon and that everything is full steam ahead so to speak! But for the time being you can count down the months (weeks, days, hours, minutes) with us broody lot!

Pidgin · 04/11/2009 19:36

welcome LittleB and I'm really sorry to hear you've had a hard time with the abnormal smears - I hope the treatment news is good and doesn't delay your TTC too much. Fingers crossed for you.

And Verso really sorry to hear you might have the dreaded flu, hope you are able to get some rest.

Agree Pregnacare is v pricey, although it's also on offer in Sainsbury's at the mo, sounds like everywhere is trying to shift it! I have also been telling myself I should lose half a stone before we TTC, but then think I'll just put it straight back on anyway so what is point ... although maybe I should stop eating for two already!
