The title says it all. I've never taken the morning after pill, do you think I should?

Where are you in your cycle? How long ago was the first day of your last period and how long is your average cycle (ie from first day of one period to the start of the next)?

BloomingHenry · 09/02/2009 17:33

I finished my period about 7 days ago. I have a regular cycle , at a guess 28 days more or less.

I've not been paying attention to be honest.

50 per cent
if you don't mind a happy accident I wouldn't bother getting the MAP but if it would be the end of the world I would just in case

HeadFairy · 09/02/2009 17:36

Hmm that does sound a bit risky, assuming you have a 5 day period, then you're probably around day 12 of your cycle, and if you ovulate around day 14 you might want to consider the morning after pill if you don't want to get pg (which I'm assuming if you used a condom)

AccidentalMum · 09/02/2009 17:38

Go get the MAP if you don't want to get PG. It's called Leovelle or similar and lots of chemists have a sticker on the door saying thatb they stock it. I caught with a tiny break in the condom with DD1.

BloomingHenry · 09/02/2009 17:38

Thanks. I don't know what to do. Until now I had decided I deffo didn't want another. Now i'm thinking what if I leave it to fate. But I haven't got the luxury of time on my side I need to make a decision asap if I've got to go to gps to get the map. Oh god!

If you don't want to get pregnant then take the MAP! You're probably at a very fertile time in your cycle. I've taken it several times (before we realised that we had massive fertilty problems ) and apart from a bit of nausea it wasn't an issue at all.

BloomingHenry · 09/02/2009 17:40

Thanks am off to muse whilst I make the kids dinner.

I just want to say sorry for posting this in conception, it was insensitive.

OP posts:
MrsTittleMouse · 09/02/2009 18:09

Not a problem as far as I'm concerned - it's perfectly clear from your title that you're not TTC and if I was feeling sensitive then I wouldn't have clicked on the thread.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

BloomingHenry · 09/02/2009 23:02

I'm in absolute turmoil over this. Ideally I am happy with my two kids but I feel really uneasy about taking the MAP.

I stupidly googled it.

Thanks Marla, I can't believe how confused this has made me feel.

Tough one. Personally I would leave it up to fate but thats me....took the map twice when I was in my teens (felt too young for a family then....condoms split) and apart from making me sick it was fine. Hope you come to the decision thats right for you x

GreenGables · 09/02/2009 23:43

beware, map made me quite ill (bled for 6 weeks) and threw my cycle way out for a long time. Years later I still feel very guilty for taking it I manage to hide from the guilt most of the time, but the thought 'what if' still simmers away. On balance I would say go with happy accident.

GreenGables · 09/02/2009 23:47

sorry my post wasn't very helpful for you. My sympathies go out to you, it can be such a difficult decision. What does your gut instinct say?

GreenGables · 09/02/2009 23:48

other than 'oh s**t!!' that is

BloomingHenry · 10/02/2009 08:56

I think GG that I would feel like you, what if?? On the other hand I'm 38, not really in a financial position for another child but feel incredibly guilty about taking the pill.

I have to make a decision today.

The MAP has changed. I took it years ago and was throwing up for two days solid. That's when it was two pills to be taken 12 hours apart.

It's now just one pill and I had no ill effects at all.

Do what is right for you.

BloomingHenry · 10/02/2009 09:12

Thanks I can't believe how awful I am feeling about this.

OP posts:
MrsTittleMouse · 10/02/2009 09:18

This wouldn't be your last chance to get pregnant though, would it? If the condom accident has raised broody feelings in you then you can think about it with your DP/DH and TTC if you decide that you'd like to go for a third.

(can understand that it's not an easy decision though)

MrsMattie · 10/02/2009 09:19

I've taken the MAP several times and apart from a bit of nausea, I've been absolutely fine. Why do you feel so awful? If you don't want another child, take it. If you don't mind, let nature take it's course. But don't beat yourself up about it.

BloomingHenry · 10/02/2009 09:22

Thanks, I don't know why I feel so awful. Could be old catholic guilt

BloomingHenry · 10/02/2009 10:45

I've made a decision. I'm going to take it. I've been letting my heart rule my head.
