Urgent advice needed re First Response pg test RESULT please!!

Morning all,
I did a First Response test first thing this morning as my AF is due today and hasn't arrived. Have had period-like symptoms for the last three days but no AF. I normally get these symptoms before AF but not for this long so I was wondering whether (touch wood!) they could be pg symptoms??!
ANYWAY, I did the test and one line showed up (which is negative, I know) but when I really peered at it, I could see another faint, faint, faint line. You have to really peer at it to see it; it's not immediately visible. Could this be positive, or is the line just there anyway?

Hey Gateau, hiya I hate squinting at those blooming lines... the only way to tell is to splash out for a digital one and get a straight yes or no, or wait three days and test again if you can bear it. Sorry if that's not helpful. Good luck though, really hope it's a bfp!!

ladyjuliafish · 09/02/2009 08:58

look at peeonastick.com

ladyjuliafish · 09/02/2009 08:59

here

Gateau · 09/02/2009 08:59

Thanks HF. How are you doing?
Did you manage to get a scan?
While you're on, can Af symptom sbe similiar to pg ones?

First Response don't usually give false lines, however, I'd expect them to be showing quite obviously pregnant by the day your period is due.

You need to test again in a day or two.

Gateau · 09/02/2009 09:02

Thanks lady; that's a fab link!
Now I'm squinting even more to see if any of them look like mine - as far as I can remember, anyway. Left it at home. Am obsessed, but not obsessed enough to bring it into work and look at it under my desk

I used a digital one and was shocked at how quick it worked and its so clear. Good luck

Gateau · 09/02/2009 09:04

That's what I thought Geepers.
I just wondered if the second line was maybe there anyway in the background ready to show up positive if that was the case.

I tested when I was 2 days early and got a very very faint line like the one you described - am now sitting, typing with one hand with the result of the line breastfeeding aged 9 weeks!!

MinkyBorage · 09/02/2009 09:08

any line = pg, even very faint

Gateau · 09/02/2009 09:08

You give me hope, craving! Thank you.
Maybe it was a defective result? Am popping out to get another at lunchtime. Think will opt for a digital.

On a First Response there will be no line at all. I've probably done over 100 of those tests and they have always been stark white when negative.

It was a First Response that first showed positive for me with this pregnancy, and the line was so faint I could only see it with a torch shining through the back of the test

HeadFairy · 09/02/2009 09:09

Hi Gateau, I'm ok. Unfortunately I mc'd, but I'm doing ok. Feeling v positive. Issy and I are ignoring our cycles somewhere on the conception boards

Hope you get your positive. I swear by those digital fellows, with perhaps an old fashioned analogue chappie if I'm more than a few days late and I'm certain I'm pg (no point splashing out if I know I'm going to get a strong line eh? )

Gateau · 09/02/2009 09:10

Geepers.

OP posts:
Gateau · 09/02/2009 09:13

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that HF. I didn't know you had mc'd. How are you?
Am I right in thinking this is your second m/c? Either way, good on you for being positive.
IF I am pg, it'll be fraught with angst as my last two pgs ended up in mcs.
Take care.

HeadFairy · 09/02/2009 09:27

I'm ok surprisingly. This was my second mc in a row too, so while we're not taking a break from ttc, I'm taking a break from obssessing about it No counting cds, no 2ww, no thinking about it, just lots of sex sex sex

HeadFairy · 09/02/2009 09:28

I hope if you are pg that it all goes well, I can live vicariously through you (plus it gives me hope that you can get pg after 2 mcs!)

Gateau · 09/02/2009 09:30

Thanks HF.
Feeling VERY anxious. IF I am pg it'll be a very cautious happiness!
We didn't use any ov tests as I was obsessed enough without bringing those into the equation - we just bonked like mad around the time I thought I was oving.

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 09/02/2009 09:36

I'm sure it'll be fine. My doc was spouting loads of statistics at me, if I remember rightly 85% of women have a successfull pregnancy after 2 consecutive mcs... pretty good odds I reckon.

flynn1984 · 09/02/2009 09:40

Gateau I tested with a First Response 3 days after my AF was due and I got one strong line and one extremely faint line i mean it was that faint I had to squint at it for hours. I am now nearly 22 weeks pregnant so congratulations!

ScorpiowithabigS · 09/02/2009 09:48

I know they are very good tests..ususally very clear BFP

MrsHappy · 09/02/2009 10:15

I have never had a decent strong positive with a FR. They are often pretty light for me, even a couple of weeks after my period was due the positive line was nothing like as dark as the control line.

These days I take a photo of my imaginary lines. If they show up on screen I believe they are there. Otherwise I decide they are wishful thinking!

The only real answer though is to get a digital - although if you can save it for the morning when your wee will be more concentrated.

Lots of luck.

kiltycoldbum · 09/02/2009 10:19

when i went to my doctors at what i thought was 8wks pg he did a test and said "its very weak but it says positive, only just, i went for a scan and i was 12 wks! so it could be a very faint positive, get thee to the chemist for a digital and do it!

yellowflowers · 09/02/2009 11:09

That is a great idea MRSHAPPY - I will do that next time myself (the photo I mean)

Northernlurker · 09/02/2009 11:26

If you've ovulated late then that could be why the line is faint. Good Luck!
