Hi everyone! Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods! Any ideas on how I make the year go quicker ? Am desperately broody!

Why can't you come off the pill now? (Just being nosy).

Hobnob76 · 09/01/2009 19:30

Hubby is in final year of his degree and we can't start to TTC until he's finished his course as we just can't afford me to be on Mat Leave whilst he's at uni full time. So I thought I'd come off a few months earlier than we planned to try and we'd use condoms for a couple off months and after Sept it wouldn't be the end of the world if I was to get pregnant as his course finishes in Feb 2010.

Sensible. The best of luck to you. Don't know about making the year go quicker. I want it to slow down so I don't have to go back to work from maternity leave.

Hobnob76 · 09/01/2009 19:46

Thank you! Am rather fed up of being sensible but I can see that we just aren't finacially able to cope with me getting pregnant just yet!

Hope your year goes slowly for you then RB!

I tell you what though, don't wish this time away too quickly. Make the most of it because once you're pregnant, things become very different. Make sure you spend loads of time doing fun, spontaneous and self-centered things while you have the chance!

Hobnob76 · 09/01/2009 20:19

Oh, don't worry I wont . Cheers for the advice.

Hobnob, I heard that your fertility gets a boost for a few months after coming off the pill, so you might not want to come off too early ...

Good luck!

Hobnob76 · 12/01/2009 21:05

Thanks dazedandconfused, I've also heard this too, so unsure about coming off so early now!

we originally planned a pill break and using condoms before ttc partly because I like you was anxious to get used to being off pill again, but have to admit our resolve to use condoms wore off after about 3 minutes

have really loved getting used to my natural state after being on the pill though, so can understand your wish to come off sooner. ,

RFCMummy · 14/01/2009 17:50

Hi all

I am also desperately broody and can't wait to start trying for number 3!

We are getting married in September so want to wait until after then.

Have put in my diary to start trying on October 1st though!!

xxxxxxx

Hobnob76 · 16/01/2009 22:48

dancingqueen - thanks for saying that, just what I needed to hear as this week I've been wondering whether I need to come off the pill as early as I will be. But now you've said that I've decided to stick with what I orginally planned!

RFCMummy - I know what you mean about being desperately broody, both Hubby and I are!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2009 13:22

hi kittycat

in the same situation as you

been on pill since 19 and now 35 - waiting for AF to appear as havent had her for 2 years due to type of pill i was on

tbh i think if i got pregnant now, i would be scared witless but also dont want to find it take 2years

kittycatcat · 19/01/2009 14:25

Hi Blondeshavemorefun. I know what you mean. Ideally marriage is next but if baby comes first i am fine with that
Have you just come off the pill too?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2009 14:48

yep finished pill

do you have any plans to get married?

kittycatcat · 19/01/2009 15:08

We aren't engaged yet but i hope to be soon ;)

salvadory · 19/01/2009 15:26

hi all, i'm hoping to try later this year, husband permitting (he's not too fussed at the moment but I'm 35 and panicking just a little!). Came off the pill before xmas but still being v cautious, him not me. Hopefully will try properly at Easter. Eek, am i really ready?!

kittycatcat · 19/01/2009 15:29

My boyfriend is 6 years younger than me so i am far more ready than him. His brother is my age and has just become a dad for the first time (with my best friend - follow so far ;)) and this has definately helped!

Good luck salvadory!

kittycatcat · 25/01/2009 16:36

Just thought i would say hi. How is everyone?

Medee · 25/01/2009 22:25

Hello. My Husband and I are waiting until June. I've 6 month's worth of pills left (actually 5 months and 1 week) and I know it will fly by, though I am itching to get going. I'm not coming off the pill until we are ready to start, as knowing my luck it would happen first time and that won't suit, as I have just started a new position within my company, and would like to see a full year with them before disappearing on mat leave.

kittycatcat · 26/01/2009 08:45

Welcome Medee. I bet. I am so excited to come off. Our plans are that it's not going to happen straight away, but i would be thrilled if it did ;) althought it doesnt really fit my plans as i wanted to be married first...hey ho, what will be will be (see how long that chilled attitude lasts)

Medee · 27/02/2009 17:16

2nd packet down today, four more to go. Eeek! I know it will fly by and it's excting but scary too. I've also just booked an appointment for a smear test and to check my vaccinations are up to date.

claireinthecommunity · 28/02/2009 13:38

Hello, my husband and I are also waiting until June. I'm currently on my fourth pack of pills to go and we will be trying as soon as I finish the last pack.
I've been broody for a good couple of years but have been waiting for work and finances to be in the best possible position first. I'm now 33 and don't want to put it off much longer.
It's nice to find others who aren't trying just yet but will be soon, I've been itching to join other ttc threads but felt a bit of a fraud

Hobnob76 · 28/02/2009 16:49

I'm just about to start another pack of pills, only 4 more to go! Coming off in June but hoping to hold off TTC for a few months after that, we'll have to see how long our resolve lasts!

OP posts:
claireinthecommunity · 28/02/2009 17:44

We're going to see what happens as soon as I stop taking the pill, my last pack will finish at the end of May.
I'm going to make an appointment with my GP over the next week or two, to discuss our ttc plans and talk about folic acid supplements. Are any of you taking or thinking of taking any pre-pregnancy supplements?
