Hi everyone! Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods! Any ideas on how I make the year go quicker ? Am desperately broody!

I've got folic acid, not thought about pre-pregnancy supplements but a friend recently told me to bother with the expensive pregnancy vitamins til I'm actually pregnant

Yeah I was thinking just folic acid. I've just seen the other thread you've started, I'll come join you there.

I've got Folic Acid and Vitamin B complex. I've also got Zinc and Selenium for my husband. We've not started taking them yet, they're still in the sorting office as we were out when the postie tried to deliver them yesterday!

Hi Medee, we've got two similar threads going not sure which to stay on-keep an eye on both at the mo probably.

I was interested in the Zinc and Selenium that you've got for your DH, excuse my ignorance but what is that for? Also, I now all about the benifits of Folic Acid but not sure about Vitamin B complex?

Sorry for all the questions

Well, I've been reading some books (specifically Planning a Baby by Dr Sarah Someone which focuses on the pre-conceptual period) and these are the vitamins and minerals recommended. The Vitamin B complex does mean a little more than the necessary amount of Folic Acid but I reckon that's OK. Mainly this is identified as a deficiency in women generally, and specifically needed in pregnancy. Women need Zinc too. Other needs are generally well provided in a healthy diet.

The Selenium comes with A, C and E vitamins and is good for sperm (count, motility etc).

Thanks for the reply Medee, we do eat a well balanced diet so maybe the Folic Acid will be enough, but I suppose the extra vitamins wouldn't hurt and maybe even help!

I guess It's a case of doing everything you can to increase the chances of conceiving as healthily as you can.
