Just wanted to say to Mollie hope that Mollie the cat is feeling a bit better. Our cat had a temperature in April last year and was very lethargic and lost his appetite (not like him at all ) I was taking him to the vet's every day for injections and for them to monitor his temperature. After 5 days he got better - the vet didn't know what it was. I was petrified it was one of these awful feline diseases so DO NOT GOOGLE! Hope it's the same for Mollie. It's so worrying when they're ill, and she's not just a cat, she's important to you.
Fruity at your DP (or not so dear at the moment ) Even if he doesn't have to be there technically, the fact that you want him there should be enough for him. In fact you shouldn't even have to ask IMO. Get Mollie to sort him out!
Go for the hb - as you say, you can always change your mind anyway!
Birthing videos I had absolutely no desire to watch any - giving birth myself was enough for me!

FruitynNutty · 24/02/2009 17:08

Ok this is for Bella I was going to FB it but thought some of you might get some ideas from it: (This was done with the help of my Doula btw - I wouldn't have had a clue!)

BirthPlan

I am keeping an open mind about my labour and birth and may change my mind. However, I would prefer it if:

Birth companions: DP and Doula. Also I?d like my Mum to be allowed in.
Induction: I do not want to be induced unless absolutely necessary. I want to be informed as to any steps taken to induce or augment labour. This includes artificially rupturing the membranes or sweeps.
Pain relief: I am incredibly keen to be in water for as long as possible so I will stay at home for as long as I can. I?m very happy to have gas and air. No epidural. I might bring a tens machine with me. I am hoping to be able to get through labour/birth with breathing techniques. However, I?m not ruling out Pethidine but would rather not have it. I would much rather have Meptid if anything.
Monitoring: As little as possible as I will be moving around a lot
I?d prefer not to have continuous monitoring unless medically necessary. I will happily be checked with a sonicaid at regular intervals. If continuous monitoring is necessary I would like the option of telemetry monitoring if possible
Interventions: As little as possible.
C-section: To be avoided. However, if I really need a c-section, and it?s not a dire emergency then I would like a ?natural? c-section:
Lower the screen/sheet between me and my tummy so I can see baby?s head coming out, then leave the body in for longer than normal so that chest gets squeezed (like in a vaginal birth) to expel fluid from the lungs. Then I?d like the baby to be put on my chest. Also please leave the umbilical cord attached for several minutes.
Delivery positions: Any way but on my back. I want to be free to move around as much as possible.
Touching baby: I?d like to be able to feel my baby?s head as he crowns and would like him to be placed straight onto my chest.
I?d prefer all exams and Apgar scoring to be done whilst baby is on my chest. I?d like skin-to-skin at all times unless medically necessary
If baby needs to be taken away then I would like DP to stay with him and maintain skin-to-skin contact with him as much as possible.
Cutting the cord: Please allow the cord to stop pulsating before cutting and allow DP to cut the cord
Third stage: I?m quite happy to have the injection to expel the placenta and happy for the vitamin K injection to be administered.
Feeding: I will be breast-feeding exclusively. Please could you check the baby for tongue-tie? I would not want baby to be given a dummy or bottle without my permission.

BellaHarry · 24/02/2009 17:21

Fruity yes I did get text, thanks. I'm still looking for hypnobirthing courses uder £200. Thanks so much for this birth plan it's fab! would never have thought of all of that! can you just clarify the following:

sonicaid
telemetry monitoring
Apgar scoring
tongue-tie

FruitynNutty · 24/02/2009 17:32

Sonicaid - I think it's a portable monitor, I've got a feeling they can use it under water but not entirely sure - that was a Doula entry! haha.
Telemetry monitoring - wireless monitoring
Apgar scoring - "The APGAR test is routinely used one minute and five minutes (and sometimes ten minutes) after birth to assess a newborn baby's health. It assesses five basic indicators of health: activity level, pulse, grimace (response to stimulation), appearance and respiration. The baby is given a score of 0,1 or 2 on each indicator and the scores are added up to give an overall "Apgar score" out of a possible ten"
Tongue tie - is when the bit of skin under your tongue is too tight. It can seriously effect breast feeding and they don't routinely look for it. Takes them about 2 seconds to check.

teeheelaydee · 24/02/2009 21:18

Thanks for the birth plan Fruity, couple of good ideas in there. (Oh bugger just got something stuck under my O key, so took it off and now can't get back oooooooooooooooll0oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - see just tried to fix it!)

I'm back - DP fixed it much to his disgust as it took ages and he's trying to watch footy - ooh I'm in trouble!

Right where was I - Fruity What does your doula think of a hb? Perhaps you should ask your DP if he'd like to stay away when baby is born as technically you don't need him there! Definitely he needs a slap. Don't worry I won't be in labour before you, this baby is arriving on 11th April - it's due date - I've told it that is what is happening so it better comply

Mibbes Got the CD - thank you sooo much. Haven't had a chance to listen today as day went a bit haywire but should have time tomorrow. I must say both you and Cricri sound like you are having a lovely time and your posts made me quite excited.

So glad that Elise seems to be doing OK, I was getting a bit concerned with your lack of posts and turns out you are just out galavanting!

Sparkly If you must torture yourself with birthing videos at least you are not testing or temping. Did DD behave or get expelled on her first day.

Mollie Hope Mollie is OK - horrible when they are sick, like Cricri I always assume worse but it usually turns out to be nothing. I am really far too attached to my cats so don't think "it's only a cat" Sparkly Perhaps we could do a cat exchange programme as am sure Millie cannot be naughtier than George

Swimming/Changing were fine, they were angels. Noisy, jabbering angels but angels none the less. Katie was telling me she had learnt about solids, gases and liquids and some things can be more than one. A lady on the way out asked who the clever girl was and Katie proceeded to repeat the story, pointing out to the nice lady that snot can be both a solid and a liquid I was very !

Sounds like another busy morning for you Scully Bet you were gutted about the cruise and QL - my Mum went to Cairns and said it is so lovely - I am sure you'll find somewhere good for your hols though. Hope appt went well.

Had some nice news today - friend who had DS2 in December has asked me to be Godmother I was really chuffed to be asked - felt like quite an honour.

Must go supposed to be cleaning the kitchen so don't have to do tomorrow. Ooh the internet is a dangerous thing

FruitynNutty · 25/02/2009 09:35

Morning

Gotta take DS to get his pre-school booster this morning I've just told him we're going to see the doctor so he can put some medicine in his arm - not sure he understands though, just wait until that big needle come out
It was much easier when he was little as he didn't understand but he will now.

teehee my doula would love me to have a HB. She's got a pool I can borrow but DP doesn't want the pool up in the flat - he reckons it's a bit "new age" You'd think he was an old man! he's only bloody 27yrs old
Even though I'm the one giving birth, it's his flat too. I might try and convince him but I'm so fed up with arguments now, I'm really tired of it all. I'd rather just keep the peace now or it'll drive me insane.
He doesn't have to be there at the birth but tbh I'd feel really sad if he wasn't there to see his baby being born.

How lovely to be asked to be Godmother! I bet you're thrilled!

FruitynNutty · 25/02/2009 13:59

Well the booster didn't go too badly. He was messing around and showing off in front of his friend (who I was looking after this morning). That is until the needle came out.
Poor boy cried when he saw it but he was fine as soon as it was done and he got a sticker too

Baby mindee has a lovely shiner on his head and I have no idea how he did it . It happened in DS's bedroom, I think he was supporting himself (to stand) on one of DS's big toys and he must have fallen. I know his mum won't bat an eyelid as she's very relaxed about that sort of thing but I feel awful that I didn't see it happen and it's a huge bruise with three tiny grazes on it - he's a baldy baby so looks worse .

Mollie how's Mollie doing now?
Sparkly how are you doing?

Molliemooma · 25/02/2009 15:04

Fruity Sounds like your DS was very brave today, typical bloke showing off to his friends Did you get DP sorted yesterday after? Mollie is a little better today, just off to take her for her third visit to the vets (gonna cost me a fortune!)

Had a really lazy day today, dreading Friday, not sure if I told you guys before but I have a foot phobia and I've got have my big toe nail off Friday morning, I feel physically sick at the idea of someone touching my feet! I wear socks all year round, the only time they come off is in the bath/shower (even wore them on my wedding night )
Do you think the doctor would notice if I turned up pissed??

teeheelaydee · 25/02/2009 18:13

lol at wedding night thing Mollie - no reflexology for you then. Have to say anything to do with nails falling/being taken off/going black makes me all squeamish.

Glad to hear that Mollie is a bit better, that is the problem with cats - they worry you sick, then curl up on the sofa looking like butter wouldn't melt when you find out there's nothing wrong and you are left with a huge bill and you want to wring their blardy necks!

Last ante-natal yoga tonight I've really enjoyed it and think I will miss it but then NCT classes start next week and 2 of the ladies in my yoga group are in that too.

Evening all.

Just got back from Fetal Med Centre. Had 20 week scan and detailed echo cardiogram......Tedwood is fine . Nothing what so ever wrong. Phew. Very happy, very relieved and very in awe of Prof Nicholides .

And, Tedwood is 100% a......... GIRL. . Really excited now that I know all is OK. Been pretty anxious for the last couple of days.

And poor bub has now been christened 'Tedwood' so she'll be stuck with that name until we persuade DD2 that she really should be called something else.

Georgie I bet you are so relieved, so very pleased for you, loving the name Tedwood
TeeHee Glad I'm not alone with the squeamish thing, reflexology is a definate no no yuck

I'm just wondering why this never happens to me, I would report it to the police honest

BellaHarry · 25/02/2009 20:03

georgie great news! xx

BellaHarry · 25/02/2009 20:07

aaaah Mollie that's such a sad story. I used to daydream about finding a baby when I was a young girl! Not sure I would have handed her in though

FruitynNutty · 26/02/2009 09:16

Morning, just a quickie as I'm off to playgroup in a sec.
Just wanted to say: Hooray for your little girl Georgie!

And Mollie you need to hang around shop doorways more often

Got a few niggles last night while watching Desperate Housewives, they were sooooo mild though so I think I may have imagined it It felt like when AF is due. Just ever so mild dull ache low down on left hand side.
Maybe Baby getting settled in new position...... hopefully head down!!!!!

Molliemooma · 26/02/2009 10:36

Fruity How exciting, bring on the twinges and niggles!

I know I've complained on here before about DH's libido being so bloody high, but I've actually managed to exhaust him over the last few days, bless he's even started asking when we can stop! Hurray now he knows how I feel most of the time!!!
Had faint +ve OPK yesterday so he's not off the hook yet!

scully · 26/02/2009 11:08

Well done Mollie, it's good to give them a taste of their own medicine, although I'm sure he's not really complaining Don't think I'd like my toe nail taken off but I love pretty much anything else to do with feet. I'm even training dd1 to give me foot rubs, she's getting quite good
Wow Fruity, sounds like bubs is getting ready, doesn't mean anything will happen in a hurry, but exciting still Why don't you just stay home long enough that you don't have enough time to get to the hospital? Happened to a friend in Auckland last year, m/w was lucky to have made the birth.
Could have throttled my dd's today at the shops. dh is looking at new glasses so we all went, bloody children are fine on their own, but put them together and they cannot sit still or quietly for 5 seconds. Seems to have gotten worse in the last 2wks, really really winds me up, badly behaved children in shops
Well done on the scan Georgie, reassuring isn't it
Just had some delicious creme brulee ice cream, yummy

BellaHarry · 26/02/2009 12:03

Hi guys, sorry to be a whinge but I've just been informed that I have been teaching a boy with 'slap cheek' whick if caught by a pregnant woman can cause miscarriage or at best damage to the unborn baby!!! Done my research andapparanly 60% of adults are immune, but shit, what if I'm not!? Waiting to hear from doctor now but just want to cry! Instead I have a y11 drama cover! I hate my job today! Stupid sickly boy, and to think he probably would have been at home if we weren't so anal about forcing them to come in! Apparantly symptoms in adults are headaches, sore throat etc, which I've had!!! What am I meant to do now, sit and wait, pretend I'm ok! When inside I'm a mess! Sorry guys, I just needed to vent and DH is teaching so can't get hold of him! [Sad]
