Hi everyone, Hi Loubers belated happy birthday! It's busy here isn't it!
I am with you Fruit, I hardly drink due to having no life, but I do eat far too much cake and chocolate and currently take no exercise.
Feeling better today and had all the appointments yesterday - the second opinion about the HSG was luke warm and the consult will contact me after looking at my records from my abdominal surgery in 2005. She said she thought IVF was a far better option.
The IVF bloke clearly works for the NHS and isn't really used to paying customers who have a budget or questions. We do want to transfer three embryos (if we get that many) but he was very 'ooo no!' and I had to really push to get him to agree to tabling a meeting to discuss the possibility of considering the option - and then it's his boss's decision anyway. [rolls eyes emoticon]
He gave us a date in July, but said we would be contacted about cancellations so it could be a lot quicker.
Wah - I don't want to go to Hungary, it's too much hassle, sobs!
Poo!
Day 8 for us and I took wild yam for the past two days and now have horrible ovarian pain, like constant ache. What's that about?
Only took 405 mg (1 capsule) for two days. Found them in my cupboard, silly me, even worse ordered more from Holland and Barrett the night before last - what am I going to do with them?
Rhet, can you remember if MG said anything about wheat grass or spirulina or alfalfa - I keep reading about it on IVF forums?

rhetorician · 06/01/2009 12:20

rowing - it's really annoying that the whole process is a constant negotiation/transaction, isn't it? With budgets and timelines - it's like work, but worse because of the emotional investment.

can't recall but will consult the handbook of dietary misery for guidance - will let you know

not sure about this yam business I am exceedingly grumpy, not so much to do with alcohol deprivation, but lack of caffeine/cake/choc/biccies. Oh well, back to the olde bookes to see if that helps me think about something else...

grownupbabes · 06/01/2009 15:44

Just jumping back in to say hi... no news yet (ie not of the type we are hoping for) but for general interest I am trying something new:
Natural progesterone cream (Serenity - bio identical progesterone, you get it from Guernsey £17.99). You use it twice a day from day after ovulation to start of your next cycle and it is meant to suppress oestrogen dominance and lengthen your luteal phase. Will keep you updated on wheter it works: currently LP is always 10 days, which is not a disaster, but not ideal either.

Ilovechristmas · 06/01/2009 20:40

Im sorry if I have offended anyone by abbreviating where perhaps I shouldnt. I certainly dont want to offend fertilityfriend as she has been very kind in responding to me. The nausea is not so bad today just feeling extremely anxious about tomorrow xx

Juicylucytoo · 06/01/2009 21:01

Ilc - we're not that easy to offend. Don't worry about us. Good luck for tomorrow.

Rowing - it's because I have no life that I drink!! Looks like my obsession with alc is out

Actually it's getting easier. Have broken the habit aspect - for now!

I do love it when this thread is busy. Keep us updated on the Nat prog cream grownup.

Ilovechristmas · 06/01/2009 21:14

thanks Juicylucytoo I want it sorted out but am very anxious as to what can be the cause xx

rhetorician · 06/01/2009 21:23

Ilc we'd all be lost without abbreviations! Even more vital than alcohol. I've heard that the progest cream is good - certainly doesn't do any harm. For some reason you have to apply it to different bits of your bum each day - also hope you get to the bottom of what's going on; not knowing must be agonising.

juicy - tee hee, I drink for both reasons!! But off the sauce since New Year's Day and it's fine so far - not that temptation has exactly been in my way.

FertilityFiend · 06/01/2009 21:38

Ilovechristmas - of course you haven't offended anyone! Abbreviations are the stuff of Mumsnet, the site would contain twice as much text and would probably explode if they weren't there Glad you're feeling less sick today, also good that there's no pain. Were you well enough to go to work today? Good luck for tomorrow, let us know how you get on

Hi Grownupbabes - that's interesting about the progesterone cream, I thought you could only get it on prescription. My luteal phase is averaging 10 days too. Might have to have a think about that...

Rowing - your appt sounds promising, you're getting the ball rolling and hopefully a date will come up sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed for you. Oh btw I second the opinion that you don't need to have a life to drink

Rhet - lol at the handbook of dietary misery, what is that then?

Juicy - yes I think I'll probably try a 'limited units' schedule once my abstinence is over (god we're like a bunch of nuns aren't we )

SP - yep, missing the drink Another alcohol free night (polishes halo)
AND, I had a Milk Thistle chaser with my water with a slice of lime with dinner.

I don't think I'll be holding out much longer though...

Ilovechristmas · 06/01/2009 22:47

thanks everyone, Im trying to relax and not to worry to much about it, funny you are all talking about alchol, I am just having a glass of wine to try and calm me down (grin). My partner is away tonight, so am going alone tomorrow, Im just nervous of the drs reaction, I just hope she takes me seriously. Interesting about the bum cream, I have learnt so much on here!! lol xx

FertilityFiend · 06/01/2009 23:03

Cheers ILC
Seriously though, I find it always helps with those sort of appointments to write things down for the doctor before I go in - eg a bullet point list of dates and symptoms. (But you may have already done that!) Good luck anyway

fruitbowl · 07/01/2009 00:00

FF You HAVE to change your name to CarryOnConceiving because then we could abbreviate it to COC which would cheer us all right up and it wouldn't be smutty as it's contextually appropriate to the thread!!!

Rowing Sorry the medics aren't behaving. Good luck with getting the response you want. Could you erm grow yams with the wild yam supplements (stupid icon)

waves to everyone else - yes it's nice when it;s busy but I'm worried about leaving people out so here's a yooo-hooo! to you all x

Juicylucytoo · 07/01/2009 11:14

Fruitbowl. You have a very smutty mind and I love it!

Ilovechristmas · 07/01/2009 11:57

just got back from doctors and she was certainly much nicer than the other one. She gave me an internal and felt nothing untoward such as cysts, but has booked me for a scan. She understood my symptoms and feels I may have had an early miscarriage so feels its the best way to check everything is normal. I will feel happier to! xx

rhetorician · 07/01/2009 14:27

ilc I'm glad you had a better time and hope that scan clears up all the mystery.

ff handbook of dietary misery - getting pregnant faster by Marilyn Glenville - no sugar, no drink, no caffeine etc etc -= you get the picture

just to cheer you all up - I was in the midwives' clinic this morning with a friend and I swear that all the women in the queue were around or over 40 - the one sitting next to me was born in 1963 (I know it was bad of me to look, but she looked well, older, and I need every shred and patch of hope). About 35 weeks along and looking very well. So there's hope for us all

peanuthead · 07/01/2009 17:02

can i join you - I haven't read most of the thread - but will no doubt catch up on who's wahat and where as I go along....

I'm 40, had dd at 39 + 1 week - conceived with iui, unexplained infertility.

been trying for no 2 for 8 months, 3 failed iui's so far - and i believed all those poeple who told me once I'd had one the others would come along really easily.... humph.

and now with the credit crunch funds are really tight for further treatment, but i suppose will have to go for ivf asap which i really don't want to do.

know loads about ttc too - unfortunately.

someone mentioned marilyn glenville - i went to a lecture by her and decided not to do the negative things (ie i lasted 1 day without caffeine....) but the positive, ie take all the supplements. she was very good, very postitve and v scientific - all evidence based, trialled etc

anyway will hop aboard and add my tuppence for what it's worth...

Tabitha8 · 07/01/2009 18:00

Welcome aboard Peanut. Rhet my midwife recently looked after a lady who had her first baby at 47. So, the lady born in 1963 is a bit of a junior. I keep saying there is hope for all of us providing we don't give up.

rhetorician · 07/01/2009 19:36

hello tab I hope all is well - I've been thinking of you from time and time and wondering how it's all going. 47! Fabulous. It does happen - so here's hoping, eh?

And welcome to peanut too - you're positively an infant yourself in these terms...

CarryOnConceiving · 07/01/2009 22:37

okaaaaaaay Fruitbowl, just for you...

ILC - great that the doc was supportive, and that you will get your scan . Great also that the internal didn't show up anything worrying. How are you feeling today?

Welcome Peanut

to Tab

Rhet - ah Marilyn, okay. I don't know much about her really, as I have so far been in denial sceptical about lifestyle changes having any significant impact on fertility - preferring to believe that these people make their money by playing on people's guilt about 'bad' habits being the reason for failing to conceive, then offering salvation by flogging their expensive tablets. I guess there's no harm in adopting healthy habits though , though there's always a balance to strike between being healthy and relaxing and having a life .

Encouraging news about the old birds at the clinic though, isn't it - hurrah!

Somewhat incredibly (for me) - another teetotal day has passed I'm going to try and make it to Saturday, then start the Moderation Programme. I do now have a hot chocolate habit however - but just the one, after dinner, which isn't too bad I suppose.

COC xx

fruitbowl · 07/01/2009 23:14

FF / COC - hahahahahahahahahaha! You have made my day!!!!

juicy - smutty? me? perhaps if i'd have been more so instead of falling asleep, we wouldn't be IN this mess!!

ILC so glad you got a nice doc who is listening to you. Good luck with scan, I understand how distressing all this confusion can be.

Hi Rhet - thanks for the news of the older mummy - yay! I swear when I was in the hozzy having DD, everyone looked grey and wrinkled but I figured out it was just the fluorescent lighting!

Welcome peanut - like the idea of just taking the do-able bits from Marilyn. I vouch for the not doing exercise, eating lots of choc and vitamins regime!

Hi Tab and everyone else.

I've now convinced myself I'm pg because my boobs have been sore for a few days (yawn, heard it all before aint we?). I'm sure when AF arrives next week, I'll realise I've been a daft desperado as usual, it's the frost that's nipped my nips!

Nite nite x

Ilovechristmas · 08/01/2009 00:04

does that mean we can abbreviate to COC now? Im giggling as I type!!! Thanks for your kind words, nausea still being a pain, I shall be as fat as a house if it doesnt stop soon as eating is the only thing that stops it!! spoonfulls of crunchy peanut butter - yum!! Bit achey down below from the prodding. I think thats wonderful that there were mums in the 40+ age group! Thanks for your support, its really lovely, nite nite allxxxx

peanuthead · 08/01/2009 09:46

lovely to be described as an infant!

and hooray for the 47 yr old - although if one more person mentions cherie blair to me I'll punch them....

completely agree coc about certain fertility experts who advise total denial and self punishment and thenyou might conceive as a reward for your good behaviour- but ms glenville was great - very mousey, sciencey and practical and everything she said was heavily referenced.

I can't stay under 5 units a week though(5!!)

vonsudenfed · 08/01/2009 10:05

Hello,

Just a quick visit (childcare has keeled over today, so I am not a happy vs this morning) even though I have lots to say/ask.

So very quickly - this abstinence thing, though. How does it work when so many people I know (both here and in RL) say, oh and we were trying for ages, and then I gave up and had a lost weekend of drunkeness and got pg?

And can you tell me what supplements you are all on? Esp 5mg B6 - I had this before but now the dr won't prescribe it. So do you buy it, and if so where from? I'm just taking vitamins and B-complex for the moment, but am always a sucker for more supplements....

Oh, and I'm coming to the end of the 2ww with little hope and some very grotty PMT, and so girding my loins (!) for the next round...

grownupbabes · 08/01/2009 15:00

Hi again.
About the natural progesterone cream... I think it is on prescription here, which is why you have to buy it offshore, ie Guernsey. As for rubbing it into different bits, as far as I understand, it is because the progesterone is stored in the fatty tissue and taken up by the body as needed. So you basically top up different bits of your fat deposits everyday (euwww).
We'll see how it goes, but I guess as I am now on day 11 of my normally 10-day LP, it has at least given me one extra day so far! And no sign of AF yet, so maybe it is working.

peanuthead · 08/01/2009 15:15

hi grownup - i tried it last time around but can't really remeber what happened! serenity indeed and was on prog pessaries in the end with all the other drugs. it did calm down my horrendous pms though so should try it again. so many things to remember to do though...

it's so annoying how gps etc won't take short lp seriously - am preparing for a battle of wills at the fertility clinic over mine again

my lp is normally about 10 days too- is that really too short do you think? was trying to forget that particular hurdle in the midst of worrying about my aging eggs...

grownupbabes · 08/01/2009 19:24

No actually everyone seems to think 10 day LP is borderline OK, but I can't think of anything else to do right now to get this egg out of the fridge and into the frying pan, so ...
Don't stress about it. I'll be the experimental guinea pig this month
