Is it possible to ovulate really early in your cycle ?? TMI ALERT !!

I hve been ttc for the past 3 months now and have recently started to get into checking my CM etc..

This month and last month I noticed that a few days after my period ended which would be around CD 5/6 ( as I have short bleeds ) my CM was EWCM and I was feeling frisky etc..

Now on CD14 when I technically should be ovulating my CM has gone thick, white and sticky. This is normal for me at this time in my cycle and not an infection. BUT...I know this isn't good for BD'ing !!

I have googled it but all sites more or less say it wouldn't be possible to ovulate this early or if so it would be incredibly rare ? ?

Any ideas ???

Yes. I am convinced I got pregnant with my first child on CD 7 and with my second child on CD10.

lol cherrychapstick. Will have to do it solid for 3 weeks at this rate to mke sure I catch my fertile phase.

MrsMattie..that's great to hear. Looking at the sites I was presuming I must be mistaken but now you've given me hope !!

between 26 /27 days and am always regular. This would mean I'd have a really long LP though doesn't it ??

Mysticsurprise- you say you have EWCM from around CD5/6. Do you have it for a few days? If so, then you might be ovulating aroung CD10/11. My EWCM always seems less/gone on the day when I ovulate (masses of it in the few days before). CD10/11 wouldn't be terribly strange for someone with a 26 day cycle. A 16 day luteal phase is within average range.

(In fact, with a 26 day cycle assuming an average length luteal phase I would have expected you to ovulate on cd12, not CD14.)

Also watch out for further patches of fertile-quality mucus. I seem to get it a few times throughout my cycle.

hi mrshappy, yes I do have it for a few days.
Now I'm confused as I thought you only had that EWCM when you were ovulating and not before. If I haven't got any when I am actually ovulating would it still be possible to conceive without it ?

EWCM appears in the run up to ovulation and usually dries up quite suddenly after ovulation. The reason it appears before is to help sperm survive until the egg arrives.

To conceive the best times to have sex are the two days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself, therefore EWCM is a sign to get to it.

Are you sure that you are ovulating at a time when you don't have EWCM?

As the other ladies have said, it's definitely possible to ov early. Ovulation day can change from cycle to cycle as well. I generally ov on day 11 and have a 12 day luteal phase giving me an average cycle length of 23 days. But since I've been charting my temp I've ovulated as early as day 9 and as late as day 13.

My EWCM tends to start around day 5/6 and I have plenty leading up to ov day. But I'd agree with MrsHappy (hello mrs!) that my EWCM tends to dry up on ov day itself. I think it's to do with the different hormones - estrogen causes the EWCM, which helps keep the little swimmers alive until the egg arrives and then the estrogen drops off once the LH kicks in.

I'd really recommend taking your basal body temp as a good way of pinpointing when you actually ovulate. It's very easy to do and a great website is www.fertilityfriend.com

Oh forgot to add that I also get lots of the white, creamy CM after I ov - pretty much all the way up to my period arriving. That ovulating on CD 14 is definitely a myth for many women

thanks ladies for all your advice. I think it's definately time for me to invest in a thermometer to monitor my temps and maybe even some OV sticks as they may help me discover when I'm actually ovulating within my cycle.
Never expected things to be this complicated. Already have a DD of 5 but she was a suprise so never knew anything about all this charting, EWCM etc..until looking on mumsnet.

Well, look, you could always try just having sex every 2-3 days and then a bit more when you see EWCM. It's much more fun than temping!

i have had 2 children and both times i got pregnant the first day after my period!! so i would say yes

I thought that thick sticky CM meant that you were ovulating? Maybe this is where I am going wrong.

Im not sure, my periods are the same as yours, i have been pregnant 3 time all within the first 4 days, i would just give it a go this month and see what happens good luck x

I am convinced I ovaluate just a couple of days after my af finishes, as all the signs there. Also I have been pregnant 5 times and with 4 of them, my scans have revealed that I was a week more pregnant than what my dates would put me at, so must of ovaluated early

I would try ovulation predictor tests. Then you will have a much clearer idea what is going on.

I conceived 1st child on day 8. Tried for 2nd at the typical 11-14 window for 2 months nothing doing so I got the sticks. I panicked as there was no sign of ovulation when expected so I used the sticks and i was ovulating around day 8-9. So there give it a go

Being new to this all (TTC no 1) I must disclaimer any advice... BUT I used OPKs and on day CD8 there were 2 lines (albeit the test one slightly lighter than the control line), CD9 I picked up the surge (test definitely darker than control) and today, CD10, I did one again just to see what's going on, and only got the control line... So, I guess that means that I ovulated on CD9. Or CD10 if you actually ovulate the day after the surge, there seems to be conflicting information out there...

Not sure if this helps, but thought I can at least confirm that OV could be a lot earlier than you'd think!

All you early ovulators (myself included!) are absolutely right - in fact it's even possible to ovulate when you are still bleeding!

Forever optimistic - the sticky creamy CM usually comes before the stretchy egg white stuff but sometimes comes afterwards. Some women get lots of it all the way thorugh pregnancy. All women are different. However if you are ovulating you should see at least a day or two (hopefully more) of the egg white stuff in the run up to ovulation and this is the time to get bonking. If you are keen to read more on this the ultimate bible IMO is Toni Weschler's Taking Control of Your Fertility. It tells you everything you need to know about cervical fluid and has photos and everything!
