Am new and have no idea where to start!

Hi all.. I am new to this site and am feeling a bit lost! Is there anyone that could take me under their wing and show me the ropes so to speak?
I am getting married in December and am hoping to get pregnant pretty much straight away! This is coming from a 31 year old who still doesn't know when her period is due each month and is embarrassed to admit that she only knows in relation to her best friend!

Can anyone offer me any advice on what I can do between now and Jan to get my head round it all and be in the best possible position excuse the pun for conception...?

Why don't you know when your period is due? Are you irregular all the time?

no am fairly regular... just never really tracked it.. i have a rough idea.. but never very accurate...

If you periods are regular, the first thing to do is get your diary out and start noting when they start each month so that you know how long your cycle is.

are there any vits and supplements that i should take?
I have heard of folic acid.. but know nothing about why or when or how much...

Otherwise, how will you know that you period is late/you are pregnant. Not everyone gets early symptoms.

As newlyweds, step 2 should come naturally

Oh yes.. take folic acid supplements (one a day tabs are easiest) starting now.. or pregnacare.. it has everything you need.

On a very basic level, do what ajm200 suggests and find out how long your cycle is. Roughly speaking, you will probably ovulate between days 13 and 18 of your cycle (with day 1 being the first day of bright red blood) and that is the optimum time to have sex.

But also, if you;re having regular sex 2 -3 times a week, there will be plenty of healthy sperm hanging about at most times ready to leap on your egg!

As an extra marker, you could keep an eye on when your discharge changes. At your most fertile time it goes clear and very much like egg white in texture. When you notice that, it's a good time to have sex as well.

That will do for now - any extra monitoring is unnecessary, imo, until you've been trying for more than 6-9 months.

oh, also, are you going on honeymoon anywhere exotic? If you need to malaria meds, you might have to stay off trying for a months or so after your honeymoon.

Definitely - but generally just enjoy the freedom of sex without contraception for a good while - please don't get hung up on ttc at a time when things should be at their most relaxed! any extra stress definitely hinders progress.

ooo well in that case, keep a note of every town you have sex and then you can call your baby after it

Check you're still immune to rubella- that's the only thing a nurse advised me when I said I was planning TTC

BTW.. congratulations on the wedding and best of luck for your big day.

As moomin days, Don't get too hung up on your fertile dates during the first few months, it's makes the whole process stressful and can turn sex into a bit of chore..

(Sorry about the double/dis-jointed postings, my typing assistant is under 2 and banging the keyboard enthusiastically.)

If you are in the UK, the midwife will ask some questions to check that you are immune to rubella at your booking appt and may offer a blood test to confirm.

can I just nip in and suggest that if you are on the pill come off it asap and start using condoms?? This will give your body time to get rid of the chemicals.

ajm200 it's too late once you're pregnant to see if you're immune, if you have a few months before ttc you should see a doctor and have a blood test for it - if you're not immune you need to have a booster which you can't have if you're pregnant. It's not a huge deal but you might as well check if you're planning ttc.

Also agree with coming off the pill sooner than later, so your body is working naturally by the time you want to conceive.
