Trying specifically for a boy or girl - gender selection kits

I apologize if there's a thread on this already, but I have a lovely DD and want to start trying soon for a boy. I have seen on-line various "gender selection kits" which seem to essentially involve ovulation predictor kits. I have also spoken with a friend who said to just make sure that you have sex on the day of ovulation, if you know what day it is from basal temperature, etc. Has anyone used the kits or specifically tried to have a boy/girl with success? Please let me know if this thread already exists. Thanks!

I haven't seen these gender selection kits. Where do you buy them? How do they work?

tinyfeet, I used www.planbaby.com with success, wanted and got a girl, it just seemed to involve a calendar and eating certain foods

Paula1 - I'm going to check that out. My friend who is a doctor swears that these kits work - she had 2 girls and was determined to have a boy, which she just did.

I've just tried the planbaby site and it couldn't give me a result because of my biorhythyms or something....hope you have better luck.

We've got a book by Hazel Chesterman-Phillips called Choose the sex of your baby the natural way (from WHSmiths, it think the NCT sell it as well). Basically same thing as has been said have sex at ovulation for a boy. We followed it and got a boy and are now using it to try for a girl. I could never follow the temp thing, so concentrated on looking for the pain/mucus that comes at ovulation instead.

I've never seen these kits but sound interesting. They should work as I conceived my little boy on the day of ovulation. Second time round I wanted a girl so worked out my dates and I now have an 11 month old girl. I am lucky as I have cramps mid month to tell me I'm ovulating.If not I think I may well have tried one of these kits.

Paula - pleased to hear it worked for you but can?t help feeling that it was a big emotional risk. I am not saying it is wrong to want a specific sex (we were desperate to have a girl and were lucky) but I wonder how I would feel if I spent all that money on gender prediction and it all went wrong - how would it effect the mother/baby bonding? Is it potentially false hopes? Or maybe you wouldn?t feel any different than if you had just crossed your fingers and let nature dictate. I don?t have any answers, just commenting on how complex the emotions of gener prediction (regardless of success rate) can evoke. Not sure I could handle it all. I was so worried about getting pregnant at all that I didn?t ever contemplate this side of things before getting pregnant! Now everyone is asking us whether or not we want another girl or a boy to "complete the unit" (I hate that one...) and I was rather relieved that this time I realised that I genuinely don?t mind. Phew - not sure I could spend all that time with my finger?s crossed again.

The way I look at it - £250 is not a huge amount to us (yes, we're lucky) so if it didn't work out so be it. (They do say you get your money back if it goes wrong) They report something like 87% success rate, so of course you do have to be prepared for it not to work out.

I have 1 girl and 3 boys - I'd like to give my girl a sister as well as get out the pink clothes again - it's not that big a deal but I'd willing pay £250 if I was sure it wasn't a hoax!

I didn't actually pay £250 for the right baby one, just £6 for the planbaby one, and actually didn't mind that much either way so long as healthy etc... just kind of wanted a girl

please has anybody any advice on conceiving a baby girl i have 3 boys and am desperate for a girl. i have been off the pill for 4 months now with no luck of concieving, if you have any advice it would be most helpful thank you.

Jude - I tried the rightbaby method four years ago when going for my third baby - trying for a girl as I had two boys. It didn't work for me and when I asked for an explanation, the rep said 'Oh, it's nature taking over' - not particularly scientifically valid, I would say! I've heard of other people on the American boards who haven't had the desired outcome, so now I think it's a total scam. They're more or less guaranteed to keep 50% of the money they take.

My third son has been the cutest and most adorable baby and toddler you could imagine, so there's no disappointment there at all. Were I to try for a fourth, I might be tempted by the more hi-tech methods such as Microsort sperm spinning, which is the only method (apart from IVF with PGD) that seems to have a proven track record.

i used the natural method of for a boy have sex on ovulation and for a girl have sex 3 days prior to ovulation as apparently the male sex sperm die off by then only leaving the girl ones and if it s anything to go by i have one of each sex and planned it that way .but who knows whether it was fluke or not ,however i am very aware of when i`m ovulating,natural body rhythms etc so maybe it worked for me

by the way i used persona for both so i knew when i was ovulating so first time time it was o.k i`m ovulating go for it and heh ho its a boy then second time round it was 3 days exactly before ovulation and hey prseto.. a girl

I have 3 DD's and DH says will would only consider 4th if we coud guarantee it was a boy. I don't think I would mind another girl but understand his desire not to be totally outnumbered! Have been reading above threads with interest and have looked into various methods of gender selection especially PGD but just dont feel comfortable with the sums of money involved. So I too thinking about ovulation dates etc and am hoping to persuade DH to give it a go though wondering about the ovulation test you can get (think is by clearblue) which costs about £99. tried ovulation sticks before but often seemed I wasnt ovulating at all! Has anyone tried this product and if so, did it work and how? ANy advice much appreciated

I don't think any of these 'tricks' are real.

You can pay for gender selection in Eastern Europe I believe.
