Hi Squibbly,
I'm so sorry to hear your journey so far has been so difficult and you had a miscarriage. <3 I miscarried not too long ago and, for me, it was hypothyrodism. I'd really recommend popping to the doctors and getting bloods done. Until then, I'd pause supplements as sometimes they can cause more issues than not. Often, the things that can help us conceive can also prevent conception too depending on levels. For me, it wasn't at all clear what was wrong, even after I'd miscarried, so bloods were crucial to knowing. I thought my cycles were normal, but looking back they weren't as regular as normal and were heavier. Really hope you're able to conceive soon.
Hello everyone 😊Jumping on the thread late, lovely to meet you all!
We're about to start ttc child no.3, but we've had a bit of a mad journey getting here, so apologies for this intro being so long! 😵We have an 11yo and a 4yo who are both AuDHD PDA (as are me and DH). Our 11yo had serious health issues as a baby, hence the huge age gap! We originally started TTC when 4yo was 2yo and just found not a lot was happening. I was keen for a smaller age gap, but then my SIL found out she had a genetic condition. In the usual mad NHS GP fashion, they couldn't just give us an appointment to check bloods etc. for the condition as it wasn't an acute issue, so we had to wait 8 months.
When we were finally seen and had bloods, we had genetic counselling and found it was low risk and we could move forward. We restarted TTC, but it was during a really stressful time. Our childcare was really inconsistent, which wasn't working for us with our AuDHD'ers. At the time, we were trying to do two mornings a week at these silly parenting courses they send you on to put your child on the ADHD waiting list and it meant we were really overworked and exhausted. I eventually fell pregnant, but felt from the start something wasn't right. I miscarried relatively early and hospital did check me (my 3rd, but not close together), but said it just happens sometimes. While that's true, I can't help but feel some routine bloods would be useful at this point for women.
So, then childcare continued to be inconsistent and then stopped altogether, so we had had to find someone else. At the time, DH and I were running a business This big change alongside having always found school tough resulted in burnout in my 11yo, who was then 9yo. We totally gave up on the idea of a 3rd child and made really big changes to support then 9yo, including stepping back from work and moving them both to home education over a few months. Over this time, my husband (who's had several strokes) was trying out an intensive physio and staying for the week several hours away. I weirdly developed an abscess on my face (as gruesome as it sounds) and had it for months. The second childcare fell through. We were having horrible work issues from an employee who left and it was just a rubbish time. Somewhere around here, I finally found out I'd had hypothyroidism for ages (most likely since 4yo was born) and it had been missed as I didn't gain weight, but had other symptoms like fatigue, hair loss etc. Once we knew, that got sorted out over a number a months and is now fine.
Anyway, fast forward on from that, it turns out home education is the best thing we could have done. Both children are the happiest they've ever been, the whole lifestyle suits us all so much more and both are asking for a sibling. DH and I can't think of anything we'd like to do more than parent another child and another child would fit well into our current life, so - in an exciting twist that we didn't expect - we're back to TTC.
And to anyone who read all of that, well done, you definitely deserve a cuppa and a biscuit!
