...how long did your second take?

Everyone I know has taken much longer the second time and I'm wondering how much I should factor that into plans for #2 - obviously I'm aware it could happen and we'd be prepared for that, but want to manage expectations!

First was first time, second was 3 months. Early 30s, born two years apart. We were really relaxed trying for the first baby but I felt the pressure (all my own pressure) to conceive quickly the second time and I think that made it harder. Hoping to have a third pregnancy in the new year and hoping it'll be quick again.

Badatmostthings · 22/09/2025 21:27

First try all 3 times. Early 20s and mid to late 30s. And each time I was surprised 😮

2025mustbebetter · 22/09/2025 21:30

2 months

amispeakingintongues · 22/09/2025 21:33

First try both pregnancies. 29 and 32 yr old

Damsonjam1 · 22/09/2025 21:34

Straight away 1st age 30, after 3 months of trying 2nd age 32.

2chocolateoranges · 22/09/2025 21:35

First month both times.

Nineandahalf · 22/09/2025 21:35

First time both times. Very fortunate. I had also planned for the second time to take longer though !

Objectrelations · 22/09/2025 21:37

Same again. I thought it would take longer and it didn’t so I had a smaller gap than I was anticipating!

Outside9 · 22/09/2025 21:43

Conceived on 1st attempt for both first and second child at ages 28 and 30 respectively.

lightslittle · 22/09/2025 21:49

First try for both children which I’m very grateful for

crocodilesandwich · 22/09/2025 21:57

1st time all 3 kids- third was 10 years after the first so I was expecting longer but nope!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 22/09/2025 22:01

Yes. It was timed because of my work maternity pay and was "tonight's the night" and baby arrived on the exact date too.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/09/2025 22:20

First was unplanned - early 20’s
second first try - mid 20’s
third first try- mid 20’s

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2025 22:28

It took 11 months to conceive my first one, and first time of trying to conceive my second.

I was still breastfeeding when I conceived the second one. They've a 16 month gap, which was a bit of a shock at the time. We only started trying when we did because we thought it'd take ages, but no!

I think it took 4 months to conceive our third and final baby a couple of years later.

A quick edit to add I had them all in my late 20s/early 30s.

SummerBump23 · 23/09/2025 07:36

First one - first try (34). Fertility issues run in my family so I was surprised and anticipated a longer ttc journey for number two.
DTD once during the first month of ttc and I’ve just found out I’m pregnant with number 2 (I’m 37 now).
Totally shocked - I’d actually imagined I’d have around 6months of trying ahead of us.
I think social media definitely made me expect the worse as my feeds are inundated with ivf/infertility/secondary infertility stories.

Sa11yCinnamon · 23/09/2025 09:19

Thanks for all the replies, really interesting to read and I'm feeling a little more optimistic 😊

@SummerBump23 I think you're right about social media, it's definitely made me expect the worst!

actually second time we tried, and third time for dc2 (I was in my 40s so that was surprising)

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 23/09/2025 09:22

Most people I know are the opposite and the first was hard and second a surprise one hit wonder

Wombatboymom · 23/09/2025 19:49

First try for first and second. Two one hit wonders!

We are very careful with protection now we’re not trying 😂

padso · 23/09/2025 20:09

1st time for both dc.

Pineapplewaves · 23/09/2025 20:12

Six months, miscarried at 12 weeks, then another 4 months to conceive DC2. So a year total (had to wait for my periods to return after the mc before trying again).

user2848502016 · 23/09/2025 20:15

The same, all 3 (possibly 4th chemical) pregnancies got pregnant 1st or 2nd cycle

Dreamymama · 23/09/2025 21:31

Echobelly · 23/09/2025 21:38
