How often to have sex?

My DH and I are ttc first time and it’s coming up to my fertile window. How often should we be having sex? He’s under the impression that we should every other day or every 2 days as apparently it takes this long to “replenish” his bank so to speak, but I’ve never heard this before.

I thought every day increases the chances. What’s everyone else’s advice? Thank you x

hi! I was told by the GP that every other day is better if your partner is a bit older, as older men take a bit longer to “replenish”, and that certainly was the case for my husband (he’s 43). It worked for us anyway, I’m currently 13w with baby number 1! Good luck 😊

Rowen32 · 29/06/2025 19:54

Every other day which is every two days isn't it 🤔

BrentfordForever · 29/06/2025 19:56

The trick is not how often but the timing in the day

always in the morning as testosterone is higher (told by IVF clinic and fertility nutritionist )

BrentfordForever · 29/06/2025 19:58

And when I say morning I mean 5-6 am 😐

butterdish93 · 29/06/2025 20:09

Just have as much sex as possibly throughout the whole month.

I assume ”every two days” is have sex on one day then don’t for two days, then have sex again the fourth day

every other day is sex day one, no sex day 2, sex day 3

Yeah what I meant is e.g.
Monday - ttc
Tuesday - no sex
Wednesday - ttc

OR

Monday - ttc
Tuesday - no sex
Weds - no sex
Thursday - ttc

sorry if I didn’t word it the best!!
Thanks all.

It is fine to skip a day or two, but try to not underestimate the very beginning of the fertile window, better to DTD early than late in the window!

boysmuminherts · 29/06/2025 20:50

All throughout the month, rather than focusing only on the fertile window.

kikikaka · 29/06/2025 20:51

I did every day that was showing my fertile window, worked first time twice

That would be “every three days”….

Depends if you include the day you have sex as one of the 3 days

CC222 · 29/06/2025 21:44

It’s not just timing, it’s also what you do after. Naturally my instinct is to get up and go for a wee, but I’ve noticed my last couple of pregnancies happened when I’d fallen asleep after and didn’t stand up at all, which I never normally do. Sounds random, but I fell asleep both times on my front, which again I never normally do. Not sure if that had any impact at all or was just a coincidence, but I’d definitely recommend staying laid down for a long while after especially when you are in your fertile window. Good luck 🤞

I have heard this as well! I have also heard it’s good to lie on your back with your legs / bottom elevated slightly but find this a bit odd to do just after the deed 😅

Thank you though!

Wow! I think that is quite rare!

Every other day until you are very near to ovulation, then do it everyday for around 4 days (if you can be bothered😄). I have concieved 3 times (2 losses unfortunately) and each time we did it: 4 days in a row (resulted in my beautiful son!), then next was 3 days in a row, and the final one was 2 days in a row. It obviously only takes the one, but it's trying to time it right that is trickier!

This is exactly it! Timing!

thank you for sharing. Sorry for your losses x

I mean if you’re die hard trying then using ovulation tests to track your ovulation, then having sex from the week before predicted ovulation will work. But if you’re in it for the sun too then you very other day will work too.

DH and I had sex about every other day and for 3 consecutive days before predicted (then confirmed) ovulation. Took us 7 months, twice 🤣

No, that’s what “every three days” means, as opposed to “every two days”, which is the same as “every other day”. Let’s not turn this into another “this Saturday/next Saturday” fiasco. We need some consensus on describing days/dates in this country 😂😂😂😂
