Tips on how to not test before missed period

I tested early on my two pregnancies before and had two successful pregnancies then I had an early miscarriage and a chemical miscarriage last year and I was trying my hardest not to test early because of the heartbreak I experienced from the last two times. I’ve been trying this month and hoping I get a positive next month but I don’t know how I am going to stop myself from testing early, I worry so much after having the miscarriages anyone else finding it hard not to test so early x

Yes, to be honest I'd be scared that any earlier ones may just provide false reassurance. So I'd rather wait it out, tortuous as it may seem.

LaTable · 08/03/2025 19:06

Hahaha this thing went through my head too. But I also know I'd rather see any sch's early if its going to happen again.... its a tricky one!
But I also have to see the doctor before 10 weeks to get the paperwork in for the french system 😑
And if he did what he did last time he does the forst scan to make sure it's in the right place
So even if I wanted yo wait till 12 weeks I probably couldn't.
You've got more will power than I do!

Hope you're all feeling good today!

LucyLou0527 · 10/03/2025 08:36

I was 13dpo yesterday and wiped pink once, no AF yet, so annoying! I just want to move on now x

Laria19 · 10/03/2025 10:07

im feeling good so far how about you 😊 @LaTable Hmmm did you try test today ? 🫤 @LucyLou0527 could be implantation bleeding ?

OP posts:
curliegirlie · 10/03/2025 10:26

Well, I started bleeding yesterday, so currently sat in the GP waiting room, hoping they can refer me onto EPU. I'm really not feeling optimistic about things. Life is fucking cruel sometimes.

Laria19 · 10/03/2025 11:02

Oh no sorry to hear that @curliegirlie how far along are you ? Was the bleed light or heavy ?where are you based, I know in Ireland you can just go straight into the maternity hospital to get checked

LaTable · 10/03/2025 12:30

I think in England it depends on the area, but most of them you can call and self refer, particularly if you've had previous mc's. It's maybe worth a try if the doctor wasn't much help @curliegirlie?
I'm so sorry you're going through this, it's such a horrible stressful thing especially not knowing what exactly is happening.

@LucyLou0527 I mean you're getting closer but there is still a small chance of a bfp? But I get what you mean with having it over and being able to just start fresh next month. Every bfn is such a kicker when ttc. It never gets easier

LaTable · 10/03/2025 18:19

Thinking of you, how did it go today @curliegirlie?

Laria19 · 10/03/2025 20:16

Same thinking of you @curliegirlie

Thanks ladies. Annoyingly, in my healthcare trust, you can't just contact or rock up at EPU to get an appointment - the initial call needs to be made by a GP. So I had to make an emergency dr's appt this morning, so they could call EPU, so they could call me to arrange an appointment! Absolute madness! And then the only time EPU could give me for tomorrow was 8.30am (right in the middle of the school run!) so I now have to wait until Wednesday morning 😕. I'm really not confident about a positive outcome as I think my tests should be darker than they are. I wouldn't be surprised if it stopped developing at around the time I had the short bleed the previous weekend. Everything looked on track before then...

Laria19 · 10/03/2025 21:50

That’s crazy, usually maternity hospitals won’t see you in Ireland untill you are 6 weeks but I had enough of waiting around the stress want not good for me and the bleeding was also stressing me out so I went illness just over 5 weeks pregnant and made sure I got checked .The wait is horrible but I hope you can get a clear answer soon so sorry that you are going through this I’ve been there I completely understand x

What a faff! Also bloody typical it's during school run.
Glad you at least didn't have to wait weeks even though two days can feel like it.
How heavy is your bleeding?
I'm still hopeful for you! X

LaTable · 11/03/2025 19:21

Good luck tomorrow @curliegirlie, got all my fingers crossed for you it's good news!

curliegirlie · 11/03/2025 20:08

I’m not feeling hopeful tbh. The bleeding was too heavy, has been going on for 2.5 days now and I think my tests are beginning to lighten (and were never really dark enough in the past week). I’m prepared for the worst but looking forward to closure.

Laria19 · 11/03/2025 20:50

So sorry that your going through this, we are always here to chat 💜

LaTable · 11/03/2025 21:17

Oh, the tests lightening must be so heartbreaking too.
After such a long time ttc it's just cruel. Like @Laria19 said, we are absolutely here for you regardless of the result x

LaTable · 12/03/2025 10:06

Af arrived for you @LucyLou0527 ?

EMC2022 · 12/03/2025 15:18

Hi Ladies.

I have switched out the uncontrollable pregnancy testing for uncontrollable ovulation testing.

I had a chemical pregnancy last month. I am currently on CD23 and no LH surge yet! Not sure if I am going to have a super long cycle or just skip ovulation altogether!

LaTable · 12/03/2025 15:56

Hahaha I think we all have problems with peeing on things 😅
How long are your normal cycles @EMC2022 ?

Laria19 · 12/03/2025 16:19

@EMC2022 I had a chemical miscarriage before and found that my periods came back pretty normal so I assumed that my ovulation would be back to normal as well. I’ve used the clear blue advanced digital tests and got pregnant this cycle l. I have learned that my LH surge dosent last long like it comes abs goes pretty quick, I used tests after my surge and tests were coming back with faint or no lines so I think the clearblue worked really well for me, also testing with a regular ovulation stick in the morning around 10 and then did the clearblue around 2 helped me catch my peak x

Af arrived for you @LucyLou0527 ?

CD3 for me! Also got a referral to the fertility clinic today so that is exciting x

LaTable · 12/03/2025 18:57

That is exciting! Do you know when your forat appointment with them might be?

EMC2022 · 12/03/2025 21:15

@Laria19 believe it or not, just tested positive on for ovulation this evening.

Queue the obsessive symptom spotting and trying to quell the irresistible urge to take early pregnancy tests in around 10 days. 🥳

The wait time is 6-8 weeks but I’m starting some B12 injections next week so could even end up being pregnant by then! Things are looking up xx
