No worries @CLibs it is confusing. Basically the way I understand it (my sister is an OBGYN so do have some knowledge!!) the bigger the follicles get the more oestrogen they produce. Eventually theres so much oestrogen this the surge of LH from your brain, causing the dominant follicle to rupture and release the mature egg (ovulation). So you don't usually see a steady rise in LH - it's either baseline, or it's surging (except sometimes your body will surge but it won't surge enough to rupture the follicle, so then it tries again - or if you have unusual cycles e.g women with PCOS).
Are you monitoring any other ovulation signs? Some women find it less stressful to track EWCM. There's also some more expensive ovulation kits that will measure the increase in oestrogen and then the surge, so you get a clearer picture.
Final bit of advice is your luteal phase will always be consistent, so after a few months of tracking when your surge is you'll have a much clearer picture of where you're at based on dates!
My sister always says if you're having a regular period you're ovulating, so don't stress too much🙂
