Thought it was time for a new thread - we're almost out of room on the original one

Thanks Ready. I guess a year isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, but it probably feels like ages. Can you get any other treatments before then or is it just IVF that's offered?

It's funny how we're all nearly in sync this month. Maybe we'll all get our BFPs at the same time! [insanely optimistic emoticon]

I think I will book an appointment for August, after my holiday and probably go on my own as I think that might make things a little easier. Might request a female doctor as well in case they want to do anything internal!

nomoremagnolia · 17/07/2008 11:40

Hi girls
I'm feeling really fed up at the moment about ftc - I really can't see us ever getting pg or having a child We're trying to save the money for another go at ivf but the money just isn't there to save. I can't help thinking that it's a huge amount of money to throw away on a chance of pg anyway

OP posts:
EachPeachPearPlum · 17/07/2008 13:51

So sorry nomore . It's really rubbish when you can't do anything about it. I feel really sorry that your PCT only gave you one chance at IVF.

I know it doesn't feel like it, but lots of couples do conceive naturally after failed IVF, so there's still a chance for you. I'm afraid I don't really know your age or diagnosis, but would any of the cheaper types be an option (e.g. mild IVF or natural cycle IVF)? I know it's still a lot of money . Feel free to rant on here as much as you want. (((hugs)))

RahRah1 · 21/07/2008 16:32

HI all... where are you all????

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

nomoremagnolia - We are having our one and only NHS go in Sept, as they decided because of our history that Blastocyst transfer is the way to go, it is unlikely that we will have a shot at frozen and would have to go with another fresh cycle if it fails which the NHS will not fund. I'm so worried about it failing and the stress of having to fund it, but at the moment I'm just trying to remain positive about our first cycle. But I do worry about our situation if it does not take, as its just more stress. The whole thing is so difficult and then to have the NHS support removed, it all seems so unfair! We have been trying 4yrs now and obviously had Bertie, so I know how hard it is and frustrating. That it feels like you will never have a child and the odds are against you. ((HUGS)) I still believe in my heart of hearts that we will have another baby (which we can keep this time)... but there is always that niggling doubt that you can't get out of your head... Its not fair and it shouldn't be like this!
I know little helps, but in some small way knowing other people that the same is happening too, makes you feel a little better and less isolated, as you have people to talk too. I'm just glad we have found a thread where all of us are going through this difficult journey (wish none of us were). Sending lots of love and wish I could give you a big hug.

Wishing everyone much love X RAH

nomoremagnolia · 21/07/2008 16:57

Thanks for your kind words Rah - I'm sure our babies are out there waiting for us somewhere... Don't get too upset if you don't get any spare embies to freeze as we got 10 eggs to fertilize but only two made it to day 2. This is totally normal according to our clinic and getting spare embies is the exception, not the norm.
Unfortunately our garden fence blew down at the w/e so what should have been this month's IVF savings is going on repairing the fence. There's always something, isn't there??

Actually we're thinking of doing IUI instead of IVF next time. I'm going to ring the clinic tomorrow and ask lots of questions

OP posts:

Quick wave to nomore

RahRah1 · 22/07/2008 10:35

Well my clinic said that if when I do my IVF and my eggs are of good quality I could do IUI again. They just want to make sure before hand that my eggs are ok and not the problem.

Your right though there is always something... its been a hundred and one things lately for us too!

RahRah1 · 22/07/2008 11:06

OK after my last email Nomore I thought I would list some of our latest money sucking issues

  • Cat got rushed in to vets and stayed in for 5 days and had an op. = £350

  • Our sky dish stopped working = £75
(We life on a new housing estate and the builders built a house next to ours so close that it blocked out the sky!!WTF!!)

  • Our window screen on my husbands car cracked = £50

  • My car failed its MOT = £100

  • We had two weddings to go to where we had to stay in hotels = £400 approx for hotel bills, travel and drink at weddings - we spent a fortune! One nights stay at one place was £120

  • TC our cat now has to have a special diet = £58 per month

  • Our freezer defrosted when I was away as my dad went to feed the cats and left the freezer door open.. god knows how... but he managed it! = All our food... .. Lesson learnt... don't buy as much food and then chuck in the freezer!

  • 1 hour solicitors meeting = £148 - my husband driving issues! In court with a driving offense soon! IDIOT!

Then to top it all off my husband was put on risk of redundancy last week. Plus I'm sure there was a load of other stuff that has happened too... that has cost us money.

I swear we have no luck at all!!!!

IUI might be a good move as less invasive, cheaper and less drugs. Fingers crossed for you XX

Gilly good luck - fingers are crossed for you
yorky thanks
Rah Your luck sounds as good as mine - I also had to replace my windscreen after a stone chip too big to fill, we've been to a rather ££ wedding in London and our cats have just had a hefty bill for their vaccinations/flea/worm treatments. Fortunately no driving offences here though!
Hope your cat is better now Ours are on a special diet too - it's crazy money for cat food!

Big Hugs Gilly.... Talk to your clinic and ask them to dis include this cycle in your quoter. They did this for me when I had a problem one month and my eggs had the opposite problem and would not grow.

I know its a blow but its best to get it right, there is no point in putting you and any potential babies at risk. At my clinic they only allow 2 eggs! Mad how clinic differ!

This is the problem with IUI, its so hard to bloody get right to actually have a go. It took us over 5 months to do 3 cycles. Very frustrating!

Nomore - Its a nightmare isn't it... glad you don't have any driving offenses to contend with.. My DH is in court next week with his. Could be facing a heavy fine... so we will be holding our breaths.

nomoremagnolia · 23/07/2008 09:24

((((gilly)))) but do ask about a 'credit note' for another go like Rah says - you don't ask (nicely of course!), you don't get...
Rah I hope your DH has learnt his lesson and that the court will see this and not punish him too severely. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as you fear
I can't believe how the time has flown by - I have just seen that MrsMc is back ttc#2 (or at least thinking about it!) I remember so well her getting her BFP (both times )

OP posts:
EachPeachPearPlum · 23/07/2008 09:50

Gilly. Can you try normally and make use of the opportunity when you have so many eggs or is that a bad idea as well?

There are a lot of extra expenses at the moment aren't there! We've had two £400 MOTs recently and even after that I'm pretty sure one of the cars has an oil leak and the other one is making a really awful noise like the exhaust is about to fall off. We've also had various weddings and family events that have been quite expensive to get to or get presents for over the last few months. Fortunately no cats or driving offences though! I really hope your DH doesn't get made redundant Rah!

I'm going away this weekend for 2 weeks - quite excited! Then when we get back we're going to see the doctor, and strangely I'm quite excited about that too. DH has agreed and he wants to go together so I kind of feel like if there is a problem there's a chance of getting something done about it now.

Hi to everyone else!

It feels strange, doesn't it, taking charge of getting pregnant in such a scientific way. In leaving it up to fate, as I had been, at least I wasn't taking absolutely all the responsibility. Now I'm considering IVF, it feels odd to be so scientific. But I suppose whether it works or not is still in the lap of the gods.

I think the karmic wheel will turn for us. It already has for me on the career front. A few years ago I worked as a deputy on a magazine which I liked, but couldn't get on with the editor, my boss. I left at the end of my three-month probationary period, closely followed by most of the rest of the staff.

A few weeks ago I saw a copy of the mag in WHSmiths, and noticed the ed had changed, and was now an old friend of mine. I emailed her, and she said she was in fact a bit bored. Two weeks after that, I got a phonecall from a recruitment consultant asking if I'd like to apply for the job. I did, and I got it! I have therefore taken the job of hateful old boss, which I always knew I could do better than her anyway! Hoooray!

Stuff like that NEVER happens to me, so I'm hoping my luck is turning. It could hardly have got any worse...

thank you for your excitement! I start in the middle of next month! I've got to be all authoritative, and be boss-like with new team, and refrain from making rude jokes for, ooh, a week or so. I can feel a new wardrobe and haircut coming on...

Sorry to hear about your over-abundance of eggs. How extremely frustrating. I think you should just do it anyway, and let any that fertilise fight it out. That's my scientific viewpoint.

I've got a question. For about a year, since the last m/c, my periods have followed a pattern of two days bleeding quite heavily, then a day or so of nothing, then a couple of days of lighter bleeding, or sometimes nothing at all. Last night my acupuncturist said 'oh dear, that's not good', whereas google doesn't seem to have anything particularly doom-laden to say. Any thoughts?

RahRah1 · 24/07/2008 09:37

Hi all

Good news from the Rah household... DH has been offered a transfer to the new company and therefore will not be made redundant... PHEW! But unfortunately lots of people from his company were... so sad times at his work.. but good news for us, he just has to travel further! So went out last night for a meal to celebrate...

herbaceous - Fab news on your new job... whoooo hooo get you! High flying executive!

Gilly - because they will not actually be doing the IUI procedure this month, they should not count it as a cycle. But talk to them otherwise they will. Basically clomid only costs pence, its not an expensive drug, its the HCG injection and washing the sperm etc that costs the money, which you wont have this month, so don't let them count it in! Be very tough on this point! It could make all the difference to you.

EachPeachPearPlum - have a fab time away. Glad you have made a decision on your appointment.

Nomore - I hope my husband has learned his lesson too.. basically he was being a cocky git and was a complete idiot. Worst thing is he does not drive fast, drink and drive, race cars etc... but just decided to turn round because he was too impatient to wait in a traffic jam... the police did other people too... but they were just very excessive! And the road was closed... so what were people meant to do?? Maybe the police should of been managing the situation and re-directing the traffic rather than arresting people to get their numbers up! I understand he did wrong, but I also think the police could manage situations better instead of alienating people. Rant over!

Your right time does fly... (enough said!)

Love to everyone else... have a good day!

Sorry to hear that its canceled, but WOOOOHOOO that it does not count. Fab news. WOW what a lot of eggs you produced... They will have to be careful if you do IVF... you will be producing hundreds
Good news that your seeing the consultant in 2 weeks. That was something they did not do at my clinic, the whole 5 months not a sniff at a consultant... really bad!

I hope your right about the wheel turning....
