First Cycle TTC after MMC

rosecbrm · 14/06/2024 13:33

Hello ladies, I've just started my first cycle since having a MMC with surgical management in May. That was my second pregnancy and second miscarriage, first being in September 2023.

Going to start TTC again but with a much more relaxed approach (try to anyway!). Looking for anyone to share the journey with?

Hi - would like to join! I also had a MMC in May (MVA on 20th May). My tests are just about negative now so will be trying again once my period comes back (which will
hopefully be soon)! Just hoping it hasn’t messed with my cycle too much as was so regular before. Fingers crossed for us both! Xx

Steffi12 · 14/06/2024 16:28

Hi ladies, I hope you don’t mind me joining your thread. Firstly I’m so sorry you’ve both been through losses and sending love💐

I too have had 2 miscarriages, both MMCs. First was April 2023 and second February 2024. I had surgery the second time and my period arrived exactly 4 weeks to the day of surgery so didn’t seem to alter my cycle too much so hope it doesn’t for you either @Herewegoagain0 We started trying again after that period so I’m now in the middle of my fourth cycle, estimated 5dpo

I am also trying not to track but I’ll be honest that isn’t going exactly to plan 🙈 after using OPKs for 6months last year it made DTD very regimented and unenjoyable for both of us in the end. The month I ditched the strips and just went with the flow we conceived again

I’ve just been trying to pay attention to my CM and cervix position and just doing it as and when. We actually seem to DTD more which has only got to be a good thing!
This month I have started tracking my BBT. I was only planning on paying attention to if my temp drops before my period is due instead of taking loads of tests and convincing myself there is a line when there isn’t. But have fallen a little down a bit of a rabbit hole estimating when my ovulation was due after noting a significant drop in temperature around about when I thought ovulation was going to happen

I hope you don’t mind me joining in the journey as I’m a little further along in my cycles. I’ve just found the whole process of TTC and MMCs really quite lonely at times

Sending lots of baby dust✨

moosey89 · 14/06/2024 21:07

@Herewegoagain0 we're basically on the same timeline! Got a practically negative test today 3 weeks post surgical management of my third MMC which is the same as MMCs 1 and 2.

We have dtd this month, zero expectations as I didn't even ovulate until my period came back last time (July last year) but we thought why not! Ready to start properly again next cycle once, dreading going back to living life in 2 weeks blocks but there's no other way to have a baby except to keep on trying!

Nic2908 · 14/06/2024 22:44

Can I join to please?

so sorry for everyone’s losses. My

lost out daughter at 16 weeks 2nd March 23 then on the 25th March 24 had surgical management at 12 weeks. Found out at our scan baby had stopped growing around 8+4 weeks.

im just waiting for my period to start and have decided to go against waiting for the miscarriage clinic. I’ve had my initial tests with them, but to wait another four months for consultant appointment and check bloods seems really counterintuitive. I’m 38 and talking all sorts to my eggs younger.

Herewegoagain0 · 15/06/2024 09:21

@moosey89 We also have dtd this month whilst waiting for my period although I’ve been away the last few days and pretty sure I ovulated yesterday (based on cervical position) and the last time we dtd was Monday so not holding out much hope for this month.

I’ve also had 2 chemicals this year so probably need to give my body a break but it’s so hard when all you want is to be pregnant and have a baby. I’m 36 and have 2 sons already 4 and 2 but am hoping for a third to complete our family. Fingers crossed for everyone this month! X

Nic2908 · 16/06/2024 18:00

Have any of you taken coq10? I’ve been taken it but it will only be 9 weeks since I started it instead of the reccomended 12 weeks. I just can’t wait any longer to start trying.

Figtree11 · 16/06/2024 18:59

Hi all,
In a similar boat to some of you.
MC 1 was in November. Period retuned 8 weeks later.
MC 2 was beginning of May and had a d&c, turns out it was a partial molar pregnancy.

Im 6 weeks post surgery, and only showing as faintly positive on pregnancy tests. I’m unable to TTC until a specialist molar clinic signs me off & gives me the go ahead. Hoping will be early/ mid July.

My body seems to like taking a while for HCG to leave my system. I had a long cycle after my last MC and concerned that will happen again. Really hope my period returns soon to get back to a beginning base again

Jingleq · 17/06/2024 06:13

Morning ladies I think I’ve found my thread if you’ll have me! Similar timelines as others got my negative last week 3 weeks post d&c. 2nd mmc following my ds conceived with ivf. Seem to be really up and down but jumping straight into ttc as being pregnant again is about the only thing keeping me sane. Hope you’re all well this morning and baby dust to you all

rosecbrm · 19/06/2024 22:57

Hi ladies! Thanks for joining the thread, it's a horrible situation to be in but at least we know we're note alone. So sorry you've all been through losses recently too, hopefully we all have some good news soon 🙏🫶🏼

I'm currently on CD6, first period since my surgical management last month and I think today is the last day of my period. X

In a similar situation with 2 pregnancies and 2 MMCs (one in September 2024 at 6 weeks and the most recent last week at 8 weeks). Feeling pretty broken still and wondering how long it will take for my cycle to return. I had an MVA last week and decided to try as again straight away. Also can't believe I'm back to TTC - I have long and irregular cycles as well just to add to the stress!

Herewegoagain0 · 20/06/2024 19:15

That’s great @rosecbrm im still waiting for my period 4.5 weeks after my MVA and feel like it’s never going to come. Pregnancy tests were finally negative early last week so not sure how long I’ll have to wait. If you don’t mind me asking how long after did it take your period to return? No idea what to expect! X

rosecbrm · 20/06/2024 19:44

@Herewegoagain0 hey! I felt exactly like that! My period came exactly 5 weeks after my ERPC.
My friend unfortunately went through the same thing as us a few weeks prior and hers took 7 weeks to come back, I think it's anywhere between 4-8 weeks!

I have found this period to be much heavier and longer than my normal pre-MC period, but I guess that's to be expected! It did end yesterday though. I'm intrigued to see what this cycle will be like. We're going to get straight back into TTC.

Hopefully it won't be long for you 🩷

@13lucy sorry to hear this, sounds very similar to me. I had my first loss in September at 6 weeks, natural MC, and then most recently in May at 10 weeks with surgical management.
The most recent was quite traumatic, we went for a private scan at 7 weeks where we were told they could only see a yolk sac, referred to EPU who scanned a week or so later (should've been 8.5 weeks) and fetal pole only measure 6.2 weeks, so 2 weeks behind and looked like it was likely twins and we lost one. Told to return 10 days later to see if baby had caught up but unfortunately there had only been minimal growth and no heartbeat, had surgery the next day.

I hope your cycle returns soon and we get some good news this year. Baby dust to you xx

Lovedatforme · 20/06/2024 21:40

I'm also in a similar situation, had our first baby start of Oct 2023. Had an MMC last month and had medical management.

This is our first cycle trying again so fingers crossed for us all!

Sorry to hear about everyone's losses, it is truly a horrible experience. Love to you all xx

Nic2908 · 23/06/2024 17:46

How is everyone getting on? I am CD 6 today. Finished my period yesterday. Going to start tracking ovulation from tomorrow.

moosey89 · 23/06/2024 18:31

I'm somewhere in between ovulation and period...no idea where because timing varies until my period comes back post surgical management! It's quite weirdly nice not being able to count down the days of the tww, but at the same time I want af to just be here now so I can start moving on. The waiting around is a killer.

LCJar · 23/06/2024 18:40

Hoping I can jump on here too! Thank you everyone for sharing.

Long story short: BFP Feb 14th, first pregnancy. MMC - started bleeding Easter Sunday (31/3) at 10.5 weeks and went to the EPU on 01/04 where there was a sac but no heartbeat/discernible foetus. Went for medical management, surprise surprise didn’t work, so had an MVA on 2nd May. Up until the scan I felt very very pregnant - MMCs are so cruel aren’t they! Since then I’ve found out two close friends are pregnant, one due two weeks after I would have been and one a month later with twins.
My period came back 4 weeks 6 days post MVA and I am now 4 DPO and crossing my fingers so hard. However that innocence of early pregnancy excitement has been taken away forever!

Good luck to all of us xx

13lucy · 23/06/2024 19:58

I'm CD11 after MVA at CD1. Does anyone know when you can have sex again after surgery? I stopped bleeding a couple of days ago, no CM but have had some pains that may or may not be related to ovulation?! Don't want to miss a chance but also don't want to get an infection.

@LCJar MMC are really cruel. I still have no idea how I've managed to get through two, especially where you are still pregnant but it's not got a heartbeat. It's so traumatic on many levels. I'm also struggling with other people's situations - manage someone at work who's off on mat leave soon and a cousin has announced pregnancy with twins which are due a couple of months before we were. Had our pregnancies worked out we would have already had a baby a few months ago, but instead 2 MMCs with nothing to show for it. Hard not to be jealous of others but unfortunately we have a harder path to follow.

Steffi12 · 23/06/2024 21:11

Hi ladies,

Sorry I’d fallen off the radar a bit as if I’m honest have been struggling with it all the past week with it all. I’m so sorry to hear everyone’s stories and I literally could have written a few myself.

@13lucy Im sadly also in your boat with 2 MMCs and also feel the pain and trauma of still walking around carrying pregnancies that aren’t viable but still having all the symptoms.
I also have a lot of people around me currently who are pregnant, have had babies near my first due date or are due around my second due date. It’s exhausting watching other people live out our dreams and can totally relate. In regards to sex after MVA I was told to wait for a period and then try again. We did have sex before but did use contraception as I did want to wait for my first period but I was lucky in the fact it came 4 weeks to the day of my surgery

I’m currently approx 13dpo, took a FRER on 12dpo and BFN so just waiting for AF to arrive. As always I really convinced myself again I was pregnant it’s so hard not to with all the symptoms, so have been feeling quite deflated this weekend

Sending love to everyone on this thread and I hate we’re all in this awful club
Baby dust to all✨

13lucy · 24/06/2024 09:31

@Steffi12 sorry to hear that you've been struggling and AF is due, it's such a grind isn't it! I found that part of my cycle very triggering after my last loss and it took a toll on my mental health as it reminded me of pregnancy and miscarriage. Look after yourself as much as you can. Did it take you long to conceive last time?

Steffi12 · 24/06/2024 13:47

@13lucy aww thank you so much! AF arrived this morning so onto the next cycle. It really is so exhausting! I was exactly the same after my first which I had medical management I found periods really tough for a long while. I’ve been better with the physical side of my periods this time after the surgical management, it’s just so gutting when it arrives isn’t it!
Please take care of yourself too 💐

So our first took 5months to conceive. The second we had 2 months of not trying as I was told to wait after the first miscarriage
(in hindsight I wish we hadn’t!) and then the second took 7months to conceive. Which I know are both in normal ranges but I literally stopped taking the pill nearly 2years ago now it’s crazy. Can’t help but feel like time is marching on! How about you?
Ive also got a GP appointment tomorrow to discuss things and hope they offer some help as I don’t feel like I can face another loss without trying anything x

13lucy · 25/06/2024 09:15

@Steffi12 you sound very similar to me! I've also been off the pill for about 18 months now. Crazy how time just disappears so quickly when you live your life wishing every two weeks away! Our first was a bit of a strange situation as we had a few months of not really trying (just being off the pill but not running it right) but then my periods stopped for three months. I reduced all stress and started tracking OPKs and then conceived on the next ovulation which ended in MMC. So technically took a while but was actually the first ovulation with proper tracking. The second time took 6 cycles. Like you said, definitely in normal range but feels like forever! Everyone tells me I've still got time and it'll happen but I don't feel that way!

Hope your GP is helpful. Mine is running blood tests again but that's all this time. I'm still wondering whether to go private for further testing just because I really don't want another miscarriage if it is avoidable.

Sorry AF has arrived, it's always a difficult time but good in the sense that it's the start of another cycle and another opportunity. I'm on CD13 after MVA and no idea when I'll ovulate (usually irregular which adds to the stress of TTC) but we DTD yesterday as want to try again straight away. Not sure whether we should or not but feel like we don't have anything to lose.

Steffi12 · 27/06/2024 21:25

@13lucy
Thats exactly it! Im so sorry it’s taken two long for too, I’m getting exhausted living in 2 weekly intervals, especially the TTW it’s awful! And hmm I’m sorry that happened how strange do you think it was the pill that altered your cycles?
My periods didn’t stop luckily but again we’re similar in the fact that I came off the pill and naively thought it would just happen. Then one month we used OPKs, not even properly as I wasn’t really sure what I was doing and it worked. The second time we tried again with the OPKs for months and nothing. Then ditched them as it was getting stressful and we conceived. So now I don’t know what to do for the best! I do try to tell myself there’s so much luck involved and even if you do everything the right time still only 20% of conceiving each month

And unfortunately my GP wasn’t helpful at all and I’ve been left feeling really frustrated and let down by the system. I managed to get them to send me for some bloods and a clotting profile which is something. But it occurred to me today I had bloods before my surgical management so I think my bloods have all been done and I presume normal, but I’ll still go to make sure.

Yes I always find the first few days of AF hard but agree onto the next cycle and hopefully will have more luck.
Thats must be so hard having irregular ovulation. I hope you have ovulated around the time of DTD🤞🏻 x

13lucy · 28/06/2024 14:39

@Steffi12 it's so long! I think you're right in that we just have to think we can't control it, even by doing everything right each month. If you're regular with your cycles then I guess you don't need to track if you prefer it that way.

I think my cycles stopped due to stress, as I was very active and had a lot of mental stress too. I stopped running for a month and then I ovulated and caught it on that go. It's a shame though as I love running but have been so nervous to do it since TTC/pregnancy/miscarriages. No idea why my cycle is so irregular still though and I don't have PCOS or anything.

I do OPKs and BBT just to make sure given that my cycles are irregular. I don't want to miss an opportunity! BBT is super intense and stressful though so I'm gutted to be doing it again!

That's good that are doing some tests but not good that they haven't been helpful. I've had a blood test to check full blood count and thyroid but they wouldn't do clotting (I didn't directly ask for it but should have). I actually booked an appointment for private consultation with a consultant for recurrent miscarriage. Not cheap but hoping I can get a plan for next time round and have a list of tests I can ask the GP for (and then pay for any others privately).

Did a HCG test yesterday and it's still slightly positive which really upset me. I assume I won't be ovulating until it's negative. Where are you in your cycle now?

rosecbrm · 28/06/2024 15:11

Hi ladies how is everyone?

I'm CD15 today and I think ovulation is going to be tomorrow, got EWCM and pre MMC, I usually ovulated around CD15/16. Feel super chilled compared to how I did when we're were TTC before the MMC which is nice, I thought I'd feel awful having to start the process over again.

We DTD on CD13 and will also tonight.

Hope everyone's ok, sending lots of baby dust xx
