Apart from having lots of sex I mean

We have been trying for 10 months and nothing has happened yet, what else can I do?

We have 2 children already so we know it "can" happen, it just isn't for us this time

Any tips would be very welcomed

Get rid of all your maternity clothes and baby stuff. Worked for a friend of mine - twice!

Tutter · 06/04/2008 13:36

after a year it is wise to see your gp

get all the basic tests done

McDreamy · 06/04/2008 13:36

Have sex on or near an Aga. v powerful fetility effect. Drinking a lot of wine pre Aga sex also ups the anti.

McDreamy · 06/04/2008 13:37

Now that's one I haven't heard before!!

Oh it's well known in these here parts

NatalieJane · 06/04/2008 13:49

McDreamy, although a lot of GP's/MW's still go by the 14 day 'rule', it is a load of bollox to be frank. Most women don't OV 14 days before their period, so you may well just be hitting the wrong days.

You can get a fairly good idea (though not failsafe) by monitoring your cervical mucus (CM), just before you OV, your CM will take on an egg white appearance (EWCM) it will be thinner than usual, stretchy, either clear or slightly cloudy in colour, most women seem to get this for 1 or 2 days, though it can be longer.

As soon as you spot any change in your CM just have sex, sex and more sex, See there advantages in it taking a little time to concieve, loads of sex

Good luck

Men have higher sperm count in the morning so do it then. And doggy-style gives better delivery.

LOL at Aga-sex... What if you don't have an Aga? And can't get to the showroom... My pregnant mind is boggling- though strangley interested...

3andnomore · 06/04/2008 13:54

lol at AGA sex...hm....never heard that one before, I must say

a friend was adviced to have sex every other day all through the cycle, and that will give the men plenty of time to get lots of wrigglers ready and there is a high chance that you will have sex at the right time of the month!

Well, when we tried however, we just had sex whenever possible (like 2 - 3 times a day sometimes) and I would also tend to stay laying down after the "deed" for a while or even raise my pelvis, in order to help those swimmers to get to their rightful destination....did work for us, generally quite well.
However, after first ds. we tried straightaway again and nothing happened for 2 years...however, that pg ended up as m/c, and it was a blessing in disguise at the time....I do think I was just far to stressed out to conceive....

Mcdreamy, buy a really unsuitable car for 3 children.
A really expensive clingy dress.
I have 2 DCs, took 7 months the first time, the second , no time at all and now I would love to be in your place trying but DH not keen on a 3rd
I'm sure it will happen soon.
Lots of luck

Ouch at the Aga suggestion, wouldn't fancy going anywhere near ours with bare buttocks

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/04/2008 14:19

Am in agreement with NJ. Even though your periods are regular, you may ov on day 6, 14 or 20. So, I would start off with trying to pinpoint when in your cycle you ov.

I can recommend a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It is a must read for every woman (imo!) but it explains in detail what happens to our bodies during our cycle, and most importantly why. It gives great instructions and tips how to chart your cycle and thus recognise when you ov.

Good luck xx

McDreamy · 06/04/2008 14:58

Thank you for your advice, I will see if I can get a copy of that book, looks good

Go on holiday, drinks loads of wine, forget about TTC, bonk like bunnies.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/04/2008 15:03

You're stuffed if you don't ov during your holiday, but bonking like bunnies is always a good start!

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 15:09

I really believe that relaxing can help with some people, too, especially those who are totally caught up with temping and obssessing about cervical mucus etc. hence the holiday suggestion.

McDreamy · 06/04/2008 15:10

It certainly worked first time around on our honeymoon!!! I think I'm too old now (37)

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/04/2008 15:14

Am not poo pooing your suggestions MrsM, I believe relaxing really helps to conceive too, but you need to book the holiday for when you're ov.

So, work out when you ov, then book a holiday

You're not too old.

McDreamy · 06/04/2008 15:18

Actually having started this thread I have been surfing the web looking for tips for conception and I think I may have found a little problem.

I have assumed I have been ovulating around day 14 -15 and have been waiting until then to have sex whereas the advice is to have more sex in the week leading up to ovulation - so maybe I have been missing it every month. D'oh!!

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/04/2008 15:22

You're right, you do have to have sex before and during ov. But don't assume you ov on day 14.

But you've defo got somewhere to start!
