Oooh, x-posted with lottie and now I feel even worse about that jacket potato

Think I need to lower my carbs, eat too much bread. Don't really eat white bread at all though. Don't (usually) eat potatoes so just need to ditch the bread.

I LOVE yogi teas too. Couldn't drink herbal/fruit teas for a year after having DD though, used to drink loads to combat the morning sickness and even a whiff of them after would make me nauseous! Fortunately my memory has been so destroyed by sleepless nights I no longer remember pregnancy.

Now I x-posted with Wheelybug !! Oohs all round!

Hiya everyone waves may I join you please?

Gina80: 12st 0, 10st 8, 9st 7.

Have had a sickness bug which helped me shift from the 11st I got stuck at for a while! I'm sure it'll go back on though as soon as I eat again!

Was ttc for 2 years for DS who's 1 on Sunday, with cycles of 21 days. Currently TTC#2, been off the minipill since end of Jan, not sure how cycles will settle as i'm still breastfeeding and am on CD26. Severe lack of OV and BD this month means pretty certain no bfp.

Ready - I have the same issue with boxercise. I do aerobics, abs work too and even though I know it's fine to do the same amount of exercise you're used to, I find myself trying not to 'bounce' too much on the 2ww

Ready · 07/04/2008 19:43

It is funny, I don't think we are too far from the same opinion really Lottie, as ever I agree with what you say. And was but not surprised about the lobby to keep the pyramid the same.
I too think that carbs are more dangerous than fat - but - that is because I don't think the western world is active enough to cope with the amounts of carbohydrates it eats.
BUT I think we should say processed carbs. Because I think that is the problem, processed carbs, as you say, principly sugar! Which if not used up turns to fat in our bodies. Fast food, processed junk food and not enough exercise is what makes people fat.

You mentioned carrots in your list on the other thread? That confused me Are they considered carbs? Because we snack on carrots/tomatoes/peppers and I assumed that we were being virtuous.

I don't believe in low-fat either, as it goes. I drink skimmed milk, but that's because anything else is too thick for me, tastewise.

Carb wars

Welcome to the thread Gina, pmsl at "bouncing less in the 2ww"

ShayeraHol · 07/04/2008 20:40

Evening diet buddies :D

Back at work today, and was VERY good - nobly resisted the chocolate my team kept trying to force down me!

Breakfast: muesli
Morning snack: apple
Lunch: Beef & salad sandwich
Afternoon snack: special k mini bite things
Evening snack: slice of beef & slice of cheese
Dinner (in about 5 mins!): lamb casserole & rice

And NO WINE. I'm trying to stay off booze during the month, partly to avoid pickling any potential baby and partly because I drink far too much during the week and it's good discipling!

As you can tell I'm a carb fan - low carb has never worked for me. I lost over a stone with Slimming World last year, but my group leader changed and the new one was incredibly irritating so I quit. Would have been easier if she hadn't been the largest person in the group by a mile - I found it hard to take someone seriously as a diet coach when they're morbidly obese themselves. So now I'm going it alone, trying to take the bits that worked for me and ditch the unhealthy stuff. Also tryingto exercise more when I can fit it in with work - aiming for 2x lunchtime swims and 3x evening exercise videos! Today is a lazy day though...

sarah76 · 07/04/2008 22:27

Today---

Breakfast: two slices toast with peanut butter, coke zero

on way to work: skinny latte

lunch: M&S superfoods couscous salad, fruit salad, nuts, diet soda

afternoon: skinny latte and one biscuit

evening: domino's pizza (a lot), coke zero

Oh we are so screwed until the move! Packing or seeing friends/family every night. By this time next week I hope to be cooking my first meal in the new flat. Having tesco delivery the day before so will have no excuse!

Hello, can I join you please? I have a lot to lose but I really need to as I know being overweight (and in my case my BMI tips me into obese at just over 30) makes it so much harder to conceive.

So, I start today knowing that the coming weekend will be a blip as we're away. Not sure whether or not to rejoin weight watchers or try to go it alone.

Also any tips for a way of easing yourself into an exercise regime? I don't like gyms and hate running. So will start off with brisk walks but that doesn't sound a great deal to do really.

Thanks Lottie, I'll weigh myself in the morning and add my stats then. I will start with a nice brisk walk at lunchtime, and jst getting over a bad back so maybe on reflection a few weeks of walking moving up to going swimming etc is the best way forward for me.

Out of interest how are people deciding their goal weight? Are they going for a BMI of 25? That is the top end of healthy weight range isn't it? It just seems like a lot to lose for me.

I'm not going for BMI 25 - not straight away anyhow. First I want to fit into my pre-pg clothes properly - not all that far off that, maybe about 1/2 stone away. Am a large size 16 now, was size 14/16 when I got pg and 12/14 when I got married. Would love to be 12/14 again (and would be at 11 1/2 st) but would be happy with getting back in my pre-pg clothes before we have no. 2. Once we've had another baby I want to lose ALL the weight, but you've got to have little goals along the way to keep you going.

ClairePO · 08/04/2008 11:49

ShayeraHol · 08/04/2008 19:41

lottie - a very good likeness! Although she was actually larger than that believe it or not...

Today's been a bad day - stressful, busy, and with cakes in the office Only had 3 little ones, but then also had a handful of cereal thingys at home and think I'll be breaking my wine embargo tonight (really was THAT bad a day!) Plus hayfever just started, have mega cough and am using it as an excuse not to exercise. BAH!

LenniEd · 08/04/2008 20:33

Food today:

Breakfast: 1 egg (scrambled - DDs favourite), 1 slice wholegrain granary toast

Lunch: Tomato and veg soup, 1 slice bread with butter (oops on the butter)

Tea: Quorn chicken portion (couldn't be bothered to cook with carrots and cabbage

Slice of birthday cake and a malibu and coke ... well it is my birthday tomorrow

Wheelybug · 08/04/2008 22:17

Food report -

Breakfast - porridge with dried apricots
Lunch - pitta bread with homous cucumber and pepper
snack a chunck of easter egg
Dinner - sweet potato with tuna mayo, avocado and tomatoes.

Not bad if it hadn't been for that pesky easter egg.

I have easter egg left too, am having a little a day. But I have cut out on all other fattening things including wine which was my downfall. Have joined the giving up on wine thread in the big slim section.

Having a banana for breakfast instead of a granola bar, did a 25 minute very brisk walk yesterday. I would prefer to make small changes that I will find it easier to keep up with though.

sarah76 · 09/04/2008 15:12

Thank you Claire and Lottie for joining, I was really starting to feel like I was the only one who had quit a bit to lose! I think I'm still top of the BMI charts at a whopping 42 , but noone ever guesses I weigh as much as I do (there is muscle packed in somewhere under the flab apparently). My problem is that I'm only 5'3 and of short squatty stock (look just like my dad's mum and his sisters). The stupid PCOS doesn't help.

I did WW back in the U.S. and lost about 2 stone, but it took ages and I've gained it back and then some. That was about 7 years ago. Now I'm older and even more out of shape.

This ridiculously skinny doctor told me today 'you just have to eat less and do more exercise'. I think I might have smirked because doesn't she think I would have done that if it were that easy? Then she said 'oh you think it will be a problem, you like your food eh?' I said 'actually, I've got PCOS and it makes it quite difficult to lose weight' and she admitted that it does make it much harder, but then said something like 'don't use it as an excuse' and told me I should only have 1500 calories a day. I'm tempted to have them in gin and tonic. Arggghhhhh.

By my own admission I haven't been great lately, but it really annoys me when skinny people who've clearly never had trouble with weight in their life act like it's just soooooo easy. My entire life, even when I was young and exercising loads, I've never been skinny or even slim. I can remember as a very young girl being thrilled with the gymnast Mary Lou Retton, because she broke the mold of gymnasts having to be tall and willowy. MLR was very short and had very chunky muscley thighs, and she totally kicked the arse of all those scrawny girls!

Rant over now....breathing....reaching for diet soda (which I should also be giving up....sigh).

Have to admit that the "eat less, move more" technique works perfectly on me - I just have NO willpower . Even worse, if I pull myself together and shop I would be happiest living off fruit and salad - but I run out of time and live off stuff picked up in the canteen or corner shops. Am starting yoga tonight - not much exercise, but it will trap me in a room with no food for 90min .
