TTC / Conceiving after a chemical

GreenPickle · 08/05/2024 16:19

Hello girls!

I have just suffered a chemical (affected me a lot more than I thought it would) and thought I'd do a poll for those who conceived after a chemical. Out of interest more than anything!

I've seen lots of different answers as to when people manage to conceive after a chemical so thought I would do a poll!

It's good to hear experiences too - the good, the bad, and the ugly - so please comment yours ❤️

My experience: First month of TTC for baby number 1! I had a week of positives, with a vvvvfl on about 10dpo and then took an ultra early CB digital on 12dpo and was doing cheap ones throughout the week which still had lines, but nowhere near as dark as they should have been so i knew something was wrong.

Started bleeding at 5 weeks and now I am on CD9, new cycle! I won't make the mistake of testing early but will just wait (famous last words! however, i have zero pregnancy tests so no temptation!)

I got pregnant on the second cycle after my chemical 😀

gardenlady1 · 08/05/2024 17:02

Hello! I had a CP at 4+6 last month, tracked cycle from day of heavy bleed and only had 'high' whole cycle rather than any 'peaks'. We carried on DTD but I didn't expect anything, was just looking forward to getting a normal cycle again.

But I tested this Monday day 30 of cycle and my Clearblue monitor said pregnant (it never said this last time). Day three of positive tests so holding on but tbh quite hard to get excited. I'll keep this updated if you'd like.

Congratulations 💕 completely understand it's hard to get excited and you're cautiously hopeful but yes please keep us updated!

Did you use any particular OPKs? I am finding my OPKs higher than usual too (I use FMU even though it's advised against with the cheap ones but it worked for me last cycle!)

Did anything differently this cycle?

Sorry you are in this boat. It's shit. Mines not particularly positive unfortunately. Fell pregnant Dec2022. Miscarried at just over 5 weeks
April 2023, had a couple of days of faint lines then two days of spotting (which I never get) before AF showed up In full force.
Nothing since then. Both had fertility tests and nothing obvious so we are giving it till September this year and then deciding whether we go down the IVF route or just give it up and go child free as frankly the mental toll of TTC is dragging us both down.

I’m sorry ❤️ it’s not a good club to be in. I think the only positive is that I can get pregnant (for some reason, I thought I was infertile with absolute no rational behind it).

I really hope something works out for you. The toll is definitely something I did not foresee (but I can’t really speak as this is only my second cycle).

Do you use OPKs at all?

OP posts:
Smophette · 08/05/2024 18:42

@GreenPickle We did use OPKs both Premom and Clear blue but found LH testing was just stressing me out more. Lol. I have a really quick peak - like from slight rise to go go go in less than 12 hours. I just go by rough calendar dates and EYCM as that's pretty accurate. Are you doing OPKs? I'll keep everything crossed for that it happens super quickly for you. The Worst Girl Gang in the world is a pretty good resource/safe community for pregnancy loss, however many weeks you were. They are on Inst and Facebook and they have a book out as well.

Yeah I use them, I feel like it’s the only thing I control (but I’m only second cycle so anything could change!) I like the CB one but it’s SO expensive. It had my peak 3 days before the easy@home ones did so I wondered if that helped with my timing last month. We are also doing the SMEP method!

thank you! I will deffo look at that. I am also steering clear of any early tests / cheap tests! I would rather have not known I was pregnant and have thought my period came a week late 🙈

well both get there! Just the waiting game is killer!

I got pregnant on the second cycle after my chemical 😀

Me too. Only at 15 dpo and terrified!

gardenlady1 · 09/05/2024 05:46

@GreenPickle thanks love and keeping everything crossed for you too!

So I don't use the little OPKs, only the CB advanced monitor and those tests. I got it off eBay and tbf it's been very good. But with only 'highs' this month really wasn't expecting anything, so no idea when I actually ovulated.

The only thing different is I had been taking CoQ10 200mg on top of vit d c and folic for last three months but when I only had 'high' this month I freaked out and stopped taking it as know it can delay ovulation slightly. Maybe it has helped, no idea! My partner has also been taking Proxeed for sperm motility.

I spoke to our fertility nurse last week and she said it's very normal for the cycle after CP to be longer.

Will let you know how it goes xx

ah yes, I’ve heard of CoQ10! So hard to know what works for your body too! I was drinking Maca powder last month but not going to this month because I heard it can mess up your cycles but my partner is still taking it as it’s good for sperm count!

my cycle this month seems to be higher LH earlier (albeit, I only used easy@home halfway through last month because I had some really really bad cheap opks 😂) so I’m hoping I ovulate earlier!

I’ve also heard temping is very good but don’t think I want to get sucked into another way of tracking because I will obsess over that too! 😩

@GreenPickle oh interesting I hadn't heard of Maca before, hope it works for him!

Proxeed helped my partner hugely even just after 3 months. We are on our 5th cycle but we went private fertility after 3 as we wanted to know if any problems (about £500 for all tests which we didn't think too bad, was expecting more tbh).

On temping, my nurse warned against it as said it's a) not good for mental health to keep tracking and b) not always helpful as it mainly shows after you've ovulated and isn't always helpful.

She didn't even want me to use CB monitor and just DTD 2/3 days but I caved haha.

My tests are stronger today, v different to last month when by now they were v weak and I had cramping. Will see what next few weeks bring.

Good luck for you do let us know how you get on xxx

Oh that's fairly priced all things considered - I have heard that cycles are 3 months in terms of, you have to use something for 3 months before it kicks in. But at this point, i've heard so many things that I just take everything with a pinch of salt!

Ok good to know about the temping! I don't think it's my thing but yeah, I know it tells you exactly when you are ovulating which isn't helpful in terms of timing sex!

Is the fertility monitor a similar thing to the CB digital one? Tells you high and peak?

Yes, same here with my tests. I think I'll start taking them twice a day now that im on CD11 and they are getting darker.

When do you think you'll test? deffo learned my lesson with testing too early 😂

OP posts:
gardenlady1 · 10/05/2024 12:44

So my fertility nurse said the 3 month thing is real, defo for men anyway. He went back for a test last week and has improved loads (would be just under 3 months since we went).

Yeah the CB monitor if you Google - it's advanced monitor, little square thing you put the tests in that say high and peak.

I had no peak this month so on day 30 I randomly did a pregnancy test on the CB monitor (it does both) and was v shocked to see positive and lines been getting darker on Poundland preg tests. But I had vowed not to test unless after 28 days or other symptoms.

I used to test earlier and it drove me slowly mad!

Oh that’s amazing news! Have you tried a digital test? The boots tests are meant to be pretty good from what I’ve read as well!

What day are you on now?

Did the fertility say anything else if you don’t mind me asking? I know TTC is different for everyone but will take any advice I can get! I think the only good thing for me is that it’s possible to get pregnant (even if it didn’t stick). But I think if after a few more months nothing happens, I will see someone privately! We are only on month 2 so just praying 🤞

I’m rooting for you!

Thank you! So I used digital CB monitor and that came up with pregnant then I've just been using cheapo sticks which have got darker and then FRER which was very clear.

I may try CB digi stick actually as I have no idea how far along I am because had no 'peak' - but I'm on day 35 of 'cycle'.

Oh yes two months is really fine, nurse said 6 months is average. We are early 30s. I paid extra to have a HyCoSy done for tubes as I had sti when younger but everything was fine. She said that can actually sometimes help as it kind of 'flushes' the tubes out (although was v painful!).

Only advice for us was the Proxeed then healthy lifestyle and DTD every 2/3 days. Which tbf has worked!

Oh and also... to not stress haha easier said than done!!

Everything crossed for you. Xxxx

allgoodthings84 · 11/05/2024 22:04

I had a CP at 6 weeks on cycle 4 ttc baby #2 and then got pregnant again the next cycle which also unfortunately ended in another CP at 6 weeks (cue the worry that it wouldn’t happen) but I then conceived again the following cycle (cycle 6) which stuck and I now have my 8 month old asleep in her cot next to me

This sounds like good news but understand it will be hard to get excited until you hear an actual heartbeat down the line ❤️

yes! Deffo take a digital weeks test (but also, I have heard these are banned in America because they can be inaccurate!). Let me know how it goes! Super exciting!!

so much to think about! I walked into TTC so naive 😂 thinking I would just have sex once and be pregnant 😩 had no idea about chemicals or other types of miscarriages!

finally got my static smiley on my CB (no days of ‘highs’ though) so I’ll be kept busy for the next few days 😂

hope this baby sticks for you! Just in time for Valentine’s Day next year! Xx

Hope all is still going well for you! Have any symptoms kicked in yet? I know it’s hard to get excited until you get confirmation all is ok! ❤️

I promised myself im only testing on 1st June! But DTD everyday until Monday (had a break yesterday though 😰). Getting bored of testing on the LH strips as well lol!

@GreenPickle so sorry I've been on hols so just picking up now! As far as i know im still pregnant - boobs sore and had some nausea (but also UTI and antibiotics which made me nauseous). I have my first private scan on Tuesday which will be about 8 weeks. V on edge so we will see!

Fingers crossed for you do keep us updated if you feel comfortable xxx

GreenPickle · 02/06/2024 17:03

@gardenlady1 ahhh so happy for you! Must be a relief ❤️

no news from me! Think my cycle is messed up because of the CP so looks like I ovulated a couple days ago (although my LH strips were positives for about 3 days and are only just decreasing) xx
