Random one ladies - when you use OPKs and you aren't close to ovulating, do you have a second line and if so how dark is it usually? Taken one this morning (CD5) because this is my first proper cycle so want to see exactly what's going on and there's a clear and decently pink second line - definitely not positive but I'm not having to squint to see it. I'm sure before my OPKs would be almost completely blank until CD10 or 11 so not sure if something has changed for me?

Which ones are you using?
Your body always has LH levels so the test should never be blank. There should always be two lines. When you're not close to ovulation the lines are light but not squinters. And obviously when you're about to ovulate the lines get darker and when it's as dark or darker than the control line it's go time!
I am just wondering if it's the tests you're using because it should always have a line.

@IBegYourBiggestPardon hope you feel better soon!

@RememberZen why on earth was your doctor talking to you about celebrities having babies later in life. It holds no relevance. I’d ask to see a different gp and really push for referral. Would you still be able to get nhs treatment if you went privately at the start? Might be worth looking into to get the ball rolling.

blackberryhill · 26/04/2024 22:11

@VixFromThe6ix I can't remember which ones I was using back when TTC #1 (this was 2020 so a while ago) - had a look back at some photos I had of my tests back then and whilst there were two lines, when I was a good while off ovulating the test line would be very, very faint, almost squinters, and then would darken closer to ovulation until they were positive. Maybe I'm using different ones or maybe they're just more sensitive now because the second lines I'm getting are much darker than they used to be!

blackberryhill · 26/04/2024 22:18

Example attached of what I'm referring to - first one is one of my 2020 tests vs the ones I've taken in the past few days. Possibly means nothing but just interesting that it's very different!

I will be looking forward to your update.
Not for nothing but I had 2 MCs (naturally conceived) when we started trying. If I didn't get some help I wouldn't have my son at 38yrs old. And I also wouldn't be pregnant with my second at 40yrs old now.
Sorry that made me angry for you. That's BS. We are fighting against time here. I would have zero patience hearing someone tell me at 39 that I've got time. Go get them girl

Thank you! Yes, I came out of the doctors feeling so unsatisfied and quite confused, I feel like they've wasted valuable time for me over this last year. After my miscarriage, I was told I was no longer eligible for help, I'd have to endure at least another two losses before they would refer me, this sickened me. I don't think my GP is giving me the correct information, I shall most certainly be going back to fight for this! I'm so sorry for your losses, I'm glad you have a little family now 🙏 do you mind if I ask, if there was any treatment you were in need of or given that helped the pregnancies come to full term? Thanks so much for your support!

I see what you mean on those pictures. Easy at home ones were what I used and they were always accurate. As well as their pregnancy tests. I caught pregnancies as early at 8dpo!! Having accurate information while TTCing is crucial. Best of luck to you!! baby dust

Your guess is as good as mine, I came out of that doctors appointment so bewildered and shut down. The second doctor kept telling me I had plenty of time (I was late 38 at the time) and not to worry and keep trying, it will happen for me he assures, I feel so stupid looking back now, I was and am entitled to help and they gave me neither. Sorry, do you mean start going through private fertility treatment, then asking the NHS to pay for it? Is that an option? My doctor hasn't told me anything to be honest, I've just tried to look into what help I should be entitled to best I can. It's been so frustrating. Thanks so much for your help! 🙏

Yes. After my 2 MCs, we decided to go for a fertility clinic consultation. After many many tests, I was given medicine to lower my prolactin and also strated inserting progesterone vaginally. I had low progesterone which resulted in a very short luteal phase. And that prevented my uterus walls from thickening enough to hold on to the embryo. I had spotting for about 2 weeks prior to my actual period and taking progesterone fixed that and next pregnancy we held on to our embryo and had a healthy baby. So considering it's the only thing we did differently, I'm attributing the success to taking progesterone.
For my second pregnancy we actually used IUI. This time my hubby had low motility and after trying for about 6mos we started IUI and second round worked for us and we got pregnant.
So like if we didn't ask for help we wouldn't have been where we are now. I'm forever grateful to mount Sinai and their help.

Thanks so much for sharing! I have read a lot about the progesterone suppositories really helping some women carry to full term, I wish I'd had more help and support from my GP when I did get pregnant, I can't help thinking if I'd had regular check ups, especially my progesterone levels, I'd be well on my way to meeting my little girl by now, it's heartbreaking. That's really good to hear🙏

I wouldn't feel the pressure as much if I wasn't as old as I am. And I bet you're feeling similarly. Like every cycle feels like a waste if nothing happens. I hope all the best for you. I hope you get to meet the right doctor who will help you become a mama. The good news is that so many women successfully have kids well into their 40s now. Stay positive !

Im 37 and under nhs fertility
( I do now have pcos tho )

OnePinkDuck · 27/04/2024 11:59

@RememberZen I really don’t know, but it’s certainly a question worth asking given the length of nhs waiting lists, to at least bypass all the initial investigations and steps they will do and fast track that part of the process. Maybe some of the fertility treatment threads on here might know the answer. But I guess even if it is possible I can imagine there will be a significant cost.

My GP tried to reassure me that most people will get pregnant within 12 months once I contacted them about my low AMH, I guess maybe it was your gps way of trying to reassure you but going about it the complete wrong way and not reading the room at all. My GP did however agree to retest it (I want a validated test on my medical record rather than an at home randox one incase I choose to seek out fertility tx) and do a full hormone profile and bloods on me as he knew I was clearly upset by the result. Which is the right reaction, he reassured me but also acted on my concerns.

Ive always been so career focused and I love my job and don’t regret any of the decisions I’ve made, but if I could go back and do one thing differently it would be to have eggs frozen at age 30 - and that will certainly be advice I will give to women coming through the system I work in now.

Lalaland13 · 27/04/2024 12:21

Thank you, it helps me hearing that, I feel the same way, I managed to get a doctors appointment in two weeks, I will be adamant and stand my ground this time, I want this too much to just roll over.

Ask 4 referal to fertility.
Your entitled to it

Hi, yes I'd just gone to the doctors the month before I got pregnant. I went back after my miscarriage and the doctor pretty much told me I wasn't eligible for any help now, as I'd gotten pregnant naturally. I'm shocked and heartbroken and yes, definitely deflated by a mile. I am considering going back to the doctors and begging for help, I can't explain how much I want this. No children yet unfortunately. How about you?

I had a miscarriage
And am getting help

Have you used Hh 4 hormone and fertility tests ?
I highly recomend doing that and then transferring the results to your nhs record - i did that

Sorry to hear of your loss

worldwidetravel2017 · 27/04/2024 13:03

Got the all clear 4 my bowel polyps - all benign
#phew

worldwidetravel2017 · 27/04/2024 15:08

RememberZen · 26/04/2024 08:06

No, I haven't been referred to anyone. I first went to the doctors, I originally got told how celebrities are having babies later in life now, how this was relevant to me asking for medical help I don't know. I left it two months, we saw a different doctor, who told me I still had plenty of time (bare in mind I was turning 39) he had my partners sperm checked, it came back as 100% poor morphology in the heads, the most important part apparently. So he was about to do a second sperm test on him, before referring me to get checked, then I fell pregnant, only after using at home insemination method. I had my FSH levels tested 7 days before period, which I've been reading up about, and they should be tested on your period? So I'm not sure if they got the correct readings there. I'm really starting to panic now.
I am going to go back next week and push for a referral, before it gets too late, they only offer 3 rounds of IVF in my area before age 40, so that only leaves me with 7 months.
Thanks for your help and advice, much appreciated right now!

Edited

Sorry - only just caught this reply.

I strongly recommend you go to gp
And ask them to give you.

  • full blood count
  • vit d check ( miscarriage link 4 over 35s)
  • prolactin check
  • day 21 test / progsterone test 5 - 7 days after ovulation

And a referal to gynae and fertility

Gynae did my fertility referal for me.

Ask gp to also blood test

  • s h b g
  • free androgen
  • testosterone
^ those 3 can help in checking 4 pcos

If you have pcos - gynae will get gp 2 prescribe meds fast

On top of all that - -

Hertility health are highly recommended - 150 gbp
They test many things including amh
