*TW* Getting pregnant again after miscarriage

Bb542 · 02/03/2024 21:20

Hi ladies,

I'm looking to see if anyone has recently had a MC and is trying to conceive again? Or if you had a MC and are pregnant/got pregnant again after.

How long did it take for your period to come back after the bleeding from the miscarriage stopped? How long did it take you to conceive again? When did you start trying again? Is there anything we should be doing?

We've just had a loss at 7 weeks. It was our first time being pregnant. I know we've to wait until we get a period before trying again, but just looking to talk to people who have been through this.

Thanks ❤️

Hello lovely, sorry this happened to you. It’s truly the worst isn’t it. I miscarried 3 weeks ago at 5+5. I’m guessing you were due around October time?

The bleeding stopped for me personally after 5 or 6 days. It was like a very heavy period for three days then subsided to normal flow then stopped on day 6.

I have been using OPKs and I got my peak on CD20 ovulated on day 21, so a week later than usual. I am now in the TWW at 4dpo. Like you, I just want to be pregnant again. It feels like that’s the only thing that will make it better. And we will be - and there’s every chance next time it will be successful, for both of us. Miscarriages are a horrible blip in the journey and is unfortunately just nature. It is really hard not to worry though, isn’t it? Glad to be able to chat to someone else in this situation as it can be so lonely. Thank you for making the thread xx

RainbowHoping · 02/03/2024 21:26

Also there is no medical reason to wait for a period, just use OPKs. Dating can be worked out at scans anyway. There are loads of threads on here where many posters say they had successful pregnancies conceiving before their first period after miscarriage.

Hi @RainbowHoping ❤️ thanks so much for replying and I'm so sorry that you've had a loss too. I was due early October. Were you due in October too? I found out 2 weeks ago that the pregnancy had stopped progressing. It was one of the most difficult things I've been through 😫 but it's nice to talk to people who understand on this app.

That's great that you're TTC again. Do you mind me asking... since you didn't wait before getting a period to try again, what did you count as cycle day 1? Was it the first day of your bleeding from miscarriage? I know they recommend waiting one cycle before trying again, but I also know lots of people don't wait and I totally understand why. I really hope you fall pregnant again so soon and it sticks ❤️

I'm still having a tiny bit of brown bleeding from the MC. We're a bit unsure on what to do now. We got pregnant really quickly first time, but trying again straight away could mean having a Christmas week baby, which I always thought I'd try and avoid. However I've now learned the hard way that these things cannot be planned. I'd be grateful now to have a baby at any time.

Would be nice to have a little group here for anyone who is in a similar position, so feel free to join if you're reading this 🥰

Hi OP, I’m so sorry to hear of your MC. It’s just the worst.
I had a MC in November - 10wks but measuring 8wks. I would have been due in June.

Everyone’s experience is so vastly different, but it took me 8wks to get a period. And it has made my cycles go haywire. It’s now been 6wks since that period, and still waiting for the next one.

It really is a horrible journey, and I’m desperate to be pregnant again, but have realised that it can happen quickly again for some people, but others it can be longer.

I hope things settle down for you soon

RainbowHoping · 02/03/2024 21:42

@Bb542 thank you. Me too! October 4th or 5th I think. Have you got older children or are you trying for your first? It will be our first.

So, technically yes I’m counting the start of the miscarriage bleeding as CD1 as if it were my period. However, because I ovulated a week later than usual you would adjust this. The way you’d date a pregnancy would be from 14 days prior to ovulation, if that makes sense? Thank you for your kind words they really mean so much. It can be so lonely when you feel like nobody understands. Tommy’s website and several medical journals say there is no risk with not waiting. I suppose just do your own research.

We didn’t wait very long to DTD because I really wanted to and the bleeding did stop quite quickly. It is such a personal thing though. I wouldn’t let the Christmas week put you off. I was born near then and love it. Plus, they could be 3 weeks early or 10 days late! You never know. I really hope you conceive quickly - it’s a good sign that you did so fast and I’m sure you will again. You’re supposed to be more fertile in the months after a loss.

Did you have much time off work? X

Hi @Bb542

I am so sorry for your loss 🥺❤️ Its so hard and I can only send you lots of love for what you are going through.

I had a mc in September last year at 6w, would have been due next month 😔 it still hurts.

We have been trying for couple of years and it was my 2nd round of fertility meds (letrozole) and we havent fell pregnant since. Still on the fertility meds have 3 more rounds before the clinic will consider ivf. Praying for our little rainbow 🌈

@RainbowHoping Sorry to hear about your loss ❤️

sending you both so much love 🤍😘

I was due the 8th! Were you in the October WhatsApp group by any chance? I wonder have we spoken? I've no older children. That was our first time being pregnant ever. I'm 29, 30 this year.

You're right about ovulation! I think what I'll do is buy some more OPK's (even though I said I wouldn't), and check when I'm ovulating. I normally have a super regular cycle so I'm hoping it'll go back to that. The midwife who looked after me at my hospital appointments had a good look at my ovaries etc and everything looks perfect she said. She said it's likely I'll ovulate again in 2 weeks 🤞🏼

You're right about Christmas. And I love Christmas 🥰 so it would just make it extra special.

I had just under 2 weeks off work. When it all started happening, the GP signed me off for 2 weeks and I didn't think I'd need it, but I really did. I go back to work on Monday and I still don't feel ready 😭 but I've to go back at some stage so just need to bite the bullet and go in. What about you?

When will you start testing? Or will you wait for a missed period?

Hi @LittleLemonPie 💖

I'm so so sorry for what you've been through. It's so tough, isn't it? I know I'll feel the same in October when I was meant to be due 😢 do you mind me asking how many weeks you were?

What stage of your cycle are you at now? I really hope you fall pregnant again soon and sending you lots of love ❤️

I was indeed but have name changed since my username on that thread. I will DM you!

Two weeks sounds ideal. It’s a massive thing and nobody really talks about it - you do right for taking the time. You might find being back is easier tbh, I did, it kept my mind busy at least for a while

Testing from Wednesday night, maybe Thursday if I can wait. I’ll be 9dpo on Thurs.

Bb542 · 02/03/2024 21:55

@RainbowHoping I should probably change my username too.

I've got everything crossed for you 🤞🏼 how are you feeling this week?

How long did you take off work? Sometimes I feel like I took too long off but I can't work from home so it was more putting on a brave face that seemed impossible, especially when so few people know what happened 😭

Lol I have multiple usernames on the go, I’m paranoid about someone IRL recognising me from any post I make.

I had a week but wish I had longer. X

I'm so sorry for your loss
I had my first miscarriage at 12 weeks (found out at 12 week scan) then got pregnant 3 cycles later. My period came 4 weeks after the miscarriage
My second miscarriage was at 7 weeks. I waited for the period to come but it never did. I must have got pregnant on the very first cycle after the miscarriage. She was 4 last week
You are very fertile after losing a pregnancy

Bb542 · 02/03/2024 22:01

Hi @ToddlerMumma . Thank you so much for replying ❤️ and I'm so, so sorry about your losses. I'm so glad you have your beautiful 4 year old now. I can only imagine the joy you experienced having her.

I think my biggest worry right now is that I'll miscarry again. How did you deal with the anxiety while TTC again? Hope that's not too personal.

Thank you. I’ve PMd you on here ❤️ hope you do too. Such a rotten thing to happen to anyone. A friend who had a MC told me when you see your little rainbow baby’s face for the first time, you won’t have been able to imagine anyone else but them. I take a lot of comfort from that.

Hello, so sorry you are going through this.
I had a miscarriage in October 2022, had a D&C, bled for 10 days afterwards got my period back in November, pregnant in January 2023, miscarriage at 16 weeks. (Definitely think it was too soon after the first pregnancy & D&C) Bled for 18 days, got my period in May. We decided to wait 6/7 months before trying again, had tests, where no reason was found & got pregnant again in October 2023.
It’s difficult and I’m anxious all the time, but trying to be positive.

ToddlerMumma · 02/03/2024 22:07

Hi @Bb542 sorry, I had successful
Pregnancies after both losses. I didn't make that clear. My eldest is 6 now, my youngest 4. I just think the ones I lost were not meant to be, they had challenges they couldn't survive. The two babies I had are healthy. There is no reason to think your next pregnancy won't go perfectly well. Xx

I miscarried last month at 10w measuring 6w. It was natural miscarriage but I had retained tissue so I was bleeding for 3 weeks total, would be less but there was a stubborn piece of tissue that took a long time to come out. I ovulated a couple of days after I stopped bleeding and we tried straight away. I’m now 8dpo and we’ll see how long it takes. First time it was 17cycles and also would be our first baby.

chillimjd1 · 03/03/2024 08:14

Hi, so sorry to hear about your MC @Bb542 and other members. I experienced a MC at 5/6 weeks just last month and it's the saddest thing I've ever dealt with tbh. Sending you all love and hugs ❤️

I started tracking my OPK after the miscarriage and peaked CD 20, so probably ovulated CD21. Still haven't had a period, due in a couple of days, 9dpo. How cruel is it that PMS and early pregnancy symptoms are so similar? I'm driving myself mad 😔 don't want to test too early either - as bad as the TWW is, every day feels like a year once you know you're pregnant and you're waiting for some reassurance.

I would definitely start tracking your ovulation symptoms and using OPK if you're ready to fall pregnant again. As @RainbowHoping says, I'm sure having one period is purely to make it easy for dating, so not necessary if you feel ready ❤️
